Deck Import

At first glance it appeared obvious that Druid would be the class for a strong C'Thun deck list. It got some impressive C’Thun synergy cards with Klaxxi Amber-Weaver and Dark Arakkoa. The class is also great at ramping and getting to their later game quicker. The new expansion also brought another option for this in the card Mire Keeper. The deck plays strong on curve minions, and keeps pushing them out until they eventually out value their opponent and drop a colossal C’Thun on the board which will usually finish or lead to the finish of the game. The deck is still in need of refinement, but it’s pretty clear it will be a staple of the Druid class for the foreseeable future.

Update 2: Nourish has been added for a bit more card draw and flexibility.

+1 Mulch, +1 Nourish, +1 Ragnaros the Firelord, -1 Living Roots, -1 Big Game Hunter, -1 Ancient of War

Update: Added Fandral Staghelm, Ancient of War, and Big Game Hunter. Removed a Mire Keeper, The Black Knight, and Brann Bronzebeard.

Standard C’Thun Druid Mulligan Guide and Strategy

You’re looking to ramp as early as possible so Wild Growth is your first priority. Innervate, Living Roots, and Beckoner of Evil are the other options you are looking to get in your opening hand. If you do have a Wild Growth, you can consider keeping a 4-drop. Wrath is an optional keep especially against Shaman where they will likely be looking to play Tunnel Trogg which can get out of hand quickly.

Standard C’Thun Druid Game Play Strategy

You are really looking to ramp quickly into your bigger threats. You want your C'Thun to get to 10/10 on turn 6 (usually a combination of Beckoner of Evil, Disciple of C'Thun, and Dark Arakkoa) so you can drop a double taunt Twin Emperor Vek'lor on turn 7 (this is obviously more important if you have Vek’lor in your hand!). Klaxxi Amber-Weaver usually acts as a later game card because you’re very rarely going to have a 10/10 C’Thun by turn 4. You should, however, consider dropping it on turn 4 if you have no other options. This deck can be very dependent on getting minions on the board so missing a turn 4 minion drop just to be greedy can lead to disaster.

The deck really just operates as a strong ramp deck because you’ll usually overrun your opponent with the strength of your minions. There are times when C'Thun will not be super relevant and you’ll just win by controlling the board. The deck can suffer from lack of draw, but Azure Drake has been added as a way to soften this problem.

Standard C’Thun Druid Card Substitutions (Replacements)

This deck is still taking shape, so many cards are coming and going as the deck is refined.

Standard C’Thun Druid Combos and Synergies

Your C'Thun buff cards are the most obvious synergy in the deck. Beckoner of EvilDisciple of C'ThunTwilight Elder, and Dark Arakkoa are going to be mainstays in some shape or form.

Brann Bronzebeard can be a powerhouse if you are given the opportunity. Getting a double Disciple of C'Thun or Twin Emperor Vek'lor can be a huge swing in the game. You could also find yourself with a 4/15 Klaxxi Amber-Weaver!

Beckoner is also flexible, but the ones you mentioned are accurate.

The deck is great. I managed to achieve legend for the first time in my HS career (lol) last month with it. This month I am laddering with it again and it is pretty competitive.

I don’t see lot of C’thun druids on the ladder, it seems like the deck is underestimated. Anyways, the “magic” of the deck happens when you spend your mana properly. That’s IMO the most important thing: if you don’t spend the mana absolutely precise, you will most probably lose.

Also you should use your removals very carefully. E.g. you usually don’t want to use mulch if you have another way to remove the enemy minion. And most of the cases you should prefer to make your board stronger then using your mana for not-so-beneficial removal. I found myself using it relatively rarely, prefering another 4 or even 3-cost minions. That’s way I will try with Brann instead, I hope it will be better.

After more than 300 games with the deck I’ve decided that there is only one card I don’t think fits completely: Mire keeper.

So, guys, If you like druids and know how to spend your mana, this deck can help you reach at least legend.

Maybe Big Game Hunter or you could just go with a second Living Roots. Naturalize is another not-so-great option.

    Replacement for Ragnaros?

Okay, so I haven’t played in a while, I hoped on, crafted most of what I need. And this deck is insane, I have no idea why people think it sucks. There are some clunky hands, but I’m playing the trump build -drakes +nourish. It doesn’t matter what you play, you always out value your opponent, the deck is lacking a little draw, so I’m playing nourish, it is a huge tempo loss, but using the Crystal mode can be worth it. I played a turn 7 c’thun for 18, the deck is just nuts

Last season i reached rank 5 but with this deck i can’t even pass rank 15: the worst thing is that crafting some cards of this deck made me lose like 4000 dust

Don’t be sad for that 4k dust as this is a really viable deck atm. -1 bgh -1 mire -1 disciple for Rag+AoW+Harrison. Plan your turns ahead before playin and u will be fine. GL

This deck completely sucks. It loses to Shaman, Rogue Priest and everything else in the meta. Why is it even popular? I tried it to do a daily and gave up and ran an arena.

    – Ancient of war + Cenarius
    What do you think?

i swapped -2 Living Roots for +2 Mark of the Wild. Trust me, 2 damage from roots isn’t enough to kill most threads neither 2 saproilings… giving an early minion +2/+2 and taunt is a good advantage without saying that its a good buff for weaver….

Grind for cards. You got 13 free packs during the release. You knew the set was coming. You should have saved your gold. Learn to get good, scrub.

        May 3, 2016 at 3:59 pm

You’re right, but you don’t need to call him a scrub, I spent most of my gold on Classic packs too, too bad I didn’t get any of the nerfed cards, 🙁 never lucky lol.

      • Simone Lazzari
        May 3, 2016 at 4:02 pm

I did this mostly because they’re a better long-term investment than expansions, and since I have all the Adventures and recently got 3400+ dust from the nerfs I think I’m in really good shape now, I’ll wait 1 month or 2 to see how the meta shapes and then I’ll craft the top-tierest deck I see (yes I’m a tier whore), but I do like to play gimmick decks too when I get enough of ladder, and reaching higher ranks helps me getting more dust and cards for the essential cards I need to make those decks work.

This deck sucks against any aggro to midrange deck. Only playable against another control, but it is bad even in that case. I switched brann, ancient of war and one swipe for 2x feral rage and healing touch to be a bit more competitive. Even though getting 60% winrate is rather hard to achieve.

Sorry I replaced Fandral with Brann, because I thought it has more synergies in this deck, but it is more optional than it seems to be at first sight, so I replaced this one aswell.

I have now gotten turn four ten/ten four games out of four. Coining out twilight elder is ridiculous. This deck is also ridiculous.

    -2 azure drakes
    -1 big game hunter
    +1 brann
    +2 nourish for card draw
    better synergy?

    • Hurkilas
      May 1, 2016 at 4:53 pm

Nourish is trap card trust me, it can win you games that go to late but its huge down of tempo i think azures are still better option overall + they combo with brann if he survives or if u can play them in same turn

    replacement for ancient of war?

  17. Wil
    April 29, 2016 at 8:15 pm

Why would you remove Brann? You have 10 cards, plus C’thun, with Battlecry—some of them really powerful (Azure Drake, Disciple of C’thun, Dark Arakkoa).

I’ve lost count how many times I’ve taken down a value minion (even behind Taunt) with Brann + Disciple. Or drawing 2 cards with Azure.

    • Wil
      April 29, 2016 at 8:16 pm

      And Veklor! 12 Battlecries.

    • metalgtarmax
      April 29, 2016 at 11:22 pm

I agree, Brann should definitely stay. He’s helped me many times, double disciples…double emperors…double C’Thun buffs. Crazy not to keep him in…low cost so it’s easy to combo him with a battle cry too.

You could use Brann Bronzebeard or second Mire Keeper.

I think the new druid legendary should be added, If you innervate into him he makes your living roots. wrath. mire keeper rigged cards. Can help you dominate turns 1-4 until your large drops with taunt come, then its GG at that point. Opening hand of Staghelm, Roots, Innervate is a 3/5 two 1/1 and removal at turn 2

Why do you run The Black Knight instead of BGH?

    • Evident - Author
      April 28, 2016 at 6:26 pm

It’s just a tech choice, I should probably mention that in the guide. If you’re running into a lot of big minions then BGH would probably be better.

      April 28, 2016 at 9:47 pm

Get guud. My win rate with this deck is pretty damn high and I’m currently rank 5. I find that this deck does struggle a little against Warlock Zoo. But that’s when you forget the ramp game and play on curve. Choose the 2/2 with Mire Keeper in that match up and focus on removing everything they play so they can’t get their giants out easy. I also run Fandral Staghelm in place of 1 Living Roots for extra ‘choose one’ value.

      • Bombtrap
        April 29, 2016 at 6:46 am

you lost a choose one card in that way. Try to replace weaver instead, i don’t like weaver because your opponent can just ignore it.

I’ve had some success with this deck… maybe it’s a matter learning the playstyle? I went 7-1 my first night playing and got to rank 15 1-1 so far today but I’m about to play some more. I’ll check back with more results!

        April 29, 2016 at 11:15 pm

Update! I’m now about 20-4 with this deck…I’m currently rank 11 and headed to bed! (I’m using the original deck with brann, 2 mire keepers, bgh for black knight)

@ Evident. Why not run Crazed Worshipper over Druid of the Claw? They have almost the same stats, fill the same slot and serve the same puropse. Yeah sure you lose the option to charge, but Crazed Worshipper has C’Thun buff value. I think it would be better to also run Fandral Staghelm if you’re going to have Druid of the Claw over Crazed Worshipper?
