(Live Now) Hearthstone 29.2.2 Patch Notes - Massive Standard, Wild & Battlegrounds Balance Update
Omfg they actually went ahead and killed quest mage for good. I can’t believe it. And for what reason? It hasn’t been meta ever since the grey sage parrot nerf? Recently it seems like blizzard just keeps outdoing themselves with every patch but for the worse.

Update on Weekly Quests
Well from their POV it makes sense to make the increase to the reward and the quest requirement disproportionate because no matter the requirement the active players would end up completing them anyway so they are essentially giving out “free” xp that otherwise wouldn’t be there, so to balance it out they apparently wanted to cut down some of the xp the casual players earn instead. They probably made the limits such that the total xp earned across all playerbase would be less, in order to turn some of the casual players to active and maybe even paying players. However in whatever way you look at it there’s no way any demographic would be happy about this change, so I’m surprised they went through with it anyway. It makes me really happy to see the outrage for it though, I feel like the community should have given the same reaction couple months ago when they announced they would put cards (corridor sleeper for the last expansion) on early access from now.
Welcome Our Demon Hunter Overlords - The Best Meta Decks After the First Balance Patch
Wow i didn’t know plague dk vs aggro dh is that unfavorable. Having playing as the dk side recently and it feels more like a 50/50.
The Galactic Projection Orb
The wording in this card is a bit confusing. So it casts a random spell for each spell you have played this game, and these random spells have cost equal to the spells you’ve originally casted, right?
If you have reduced the cost of the spell, is the random spell’s cost equal to the reduced cost or the original cost?
Also, how does it exactly work with spells that cast other spells? For example if you play the new yogg in a box spell does it cast one random 8 cost spell or five spells with costs equal to the spells the box previously casted?
Depending on these two questions (and the viability of the other cards in the new spell mage that’s going to exist) this card may be anywhere from absolutely useless to really good.
Raza the Resealed
I think this card is a bit of a bait. If you ever played raza priest during frozen throne you would know the death knight anduin card was never enough on its own because you wouldn’t be able to afford too many 2 mana hero powers.
Timewinder Zarimi
Jesus christ this is 10 times easier than completing the mage quest
Thistle Tea Set
The wording is a bit strange. Since discover as a keyword adds a card to your hand, does this mean you get two copies of the card you selected?
Hagatha the Fabled
If history is any indication, it will still overload you. (Thats how the previous Hagatha that gave you a 5-5 with a spell attached worked)
Corridor Sleeper Is a Threat to the Free-to-Play Hearthstone Experience
I had been playing hs since goblins vs gnomes expansion with reasonable consistency and I had always been a F2P player, this consistency paired with my playtime gave me a collection that is basically indistinguishable from a paying player (except for the cosmetics like portraits and diamond cards and so on).
In, all my years of playing, I have never seen an update that is this scary for the F2P experience, for all the reasons you described in the article. What’s scarier for me is that I haven’t seen much on any platform besides this one talking about it.
It is quite apperent they are testing the waters with this paywall, but seeing the state of current outrage against it (or lack thereof) will no doubt make them push to put more and/or stronger cards behind a paywall. I guess for a player that is paying for the cards every expansion there is no difference at all but for F2P players like me the only logical choice is to quit the game, a 1 month period where you cannot compete against meta decks just because you didn’t pay is simply unacceptable for a game that I play almost daily. They may experiment with shortening that early access period but I personally don’t think that’s a good solution either (will explain why in a second).
Some may be inclined to think that from a business perspective what players like me feel about this news doesn’t matter. If I quit the game 0$ is lost because I had been paying 0$ for years anyway, right? But the fact of the matter is I play a variety of decks and I am a consistent legend player, which means I contribute to the gameplay experience and the competition/ladder experience. If you climbed all the way from bronze to legend, only playing against bots, would you be satisfied with your climb? What if you played against real players instead, but they were playing objectively lower tier decks because they couldn’t buy the tier 0 deck defined by paywalled cards, would you be satisfied then? These are the simple examples but it doesn’t stop there.
If you had been playing for a long enough time you have seen the case where a single outlier deck was significantly better compared to every other deck, forcing the every player to play the same 1 deck, which creates a miserable gameplay experience (dr boom and elysiana control warrior for example). A similar situation is bound to happen if there are multiple tier 1 decks (which suggests a healthy meta on the surface), but imagine if only one of them has all the cards unrestricted by a paywall. In that case the F2P playerbase will not quit but flock to that one deck, resulting in the same situation.
And I have to make one last remark which more personal to me. When the meta is balanced, I simply have fun playing hs. Luckily the meta had been reasonably balanced for many expansions in a row now (and I realise some may not agree with that), but that’s ultimately the reason I keep playing. However I remember the days when noone had early access to anything, and on the first day of an expansion’s launch day everyone experimented with every card, as noone knew what the power levels of the cards were really like, and to me that was when the hs was the most fun. I feel like a drastic portion of that fun had been taken away ever since they enabled the content creators early access, now everyone has a good ballpark idea about what is better and what is worse way before the expansion launches. I feel like putting certain cards behind a paywall and enabling them later will also contribute to fun being lost for this same reason. And even if I was a paying player, I simply don’t see the point in playing the game if it’s not fun anymore.
The Azerite Snake (Excavate Warlock) Will Get Nerfed In A Hotfix, More Details on Friday
It’s literally the third day of the expansion, decks are not optimized yet, meta is not settled. They should have just waited until it did. I bet the excavation warlocks wr would go down as aggro decks win rates go up if only they just waited a little bit. Now the druid will be the new tyrant until meta settles, might as well nerf that while they are at it.
Algalon the Observer
You pay 1 mana to put your opponents good card to the bottom, opponent draws another good card anyway. Will happen more often than you think.
Tavern Brawl - The Dark Wanderer - Strategy & Example Decks!
This is definitely the easiest way to do it. Honestly you can do it with any control type of deck just take one card out and put steamcleaner instead. I think there is only two copies of each card in his deck after he turns into diablo (but he still draws some automatically after he turns) so not every card is burnt, just pay attention to what is being burnt and watch out for apocalypse.
Through Fel and Flames
For the reason you mentioned, it’s prolly good in dh but not in warrior since dh has no problem with draw while warrior often does.
Balance Patch "Coming Later This Month", It Will Have Some "Spicy Changes" And Will Slow Down The Game
is there any news regarding tavern regular achievement and end of tavern pass skins for dk?
Wait, Is Death Knight Even Good? The Best Death Knight Decks in Early March of the Lich King Meta
Honestly playing death knight felt so underwhelming on day 1 that I would rather prefer if it was like demon hunter launch day 1. At least we got to actually play with (and against) the new cards and new class and explore all that new stuff with demon hunter. This time I’m pretty sure that everyone just played a few games with dk, understood that it’s not op by any means and moved on to explore new cards for other classes.
Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase Suspending Game Services in China On January 23, 2023
Wow i feel like this is pretty huge news. You mention that “Chinese market makes up for only 3% of the total Activision-Blizzard revenue” but i wonder how much of that 3% exactly comes from Blizzard franchises (wow, starcraft, diablo, hs). Also 3% is still a big deal when you are talking in millions and even billions, so it’s interesting how the future of blizzard and hs will look like after this heavy blow. And there is also the fact that one the biggest playerbase region suddenly dissappearing, will impact the deckbuilding element, which dictates the meta, which in turn impacts the overall enjoyability of the game.
I am aware of the rommath, it has been used in the deck ever since grey sage parrot got nerfed but as far as i know quest mage has never been like a tier 1 deck since then. I have played the deck on and off myself couple of times since then and at no point it felt nowhere near the power level of, say, any rogue deck right now or any powerful aggro deck like shadow priest, even shaman etc. I do agree that rewind being able to discover the quest reward itself was quite BS but that could just have been addressed with a nerf to rewind.
