Top Standard Legend Decks From Ashes of Outland – Week 7 – May 2020

Patch was released on Monday, so we have more than enough decks to put into this compilation. Keep in mind, however, that lots of them are experimental builds – a big balance update like this leads to players trying out new builds, finding out which decks are still good and which aren’t + discovering new stuff to play. We’ll probably need to give the meta another week or so to settle, but for now we’re already seeing some trends.

Just as you might have imagined – the nerfed decks are still playable. Most of them are playing similar builds – sometimes with a 1 or 2 cards changed. In case of Galakrond Rogue, players are also trying out a Stealth build, but overall Secret version is still more popular (and according to the early stats, win rates of both builds are very similar now). However, the nerfs have made room for more decks in the meta.

Sadly, three buffs to Shaman weren’t enough to bring the class back – it’s still the worst class in the game right now. However, Paladin is doing okay-ish. Pure/Libram builds are hanging around Tier 3, which is not bad considering that they haven’t really seen much play before patch. Murloc build is still solid, but underplayed.

However, the deck that benefited from the patch most seems to be Spell Druid. Different variants of the deck are played on the ladder – some focusing more on the Token strategy, others adding Dragons and Malygos finisher. No matter which one you play, It might not be the best deck in the meta, but so far I would place it in high Tier 2, which is really impressive. Another deck that has already been gaining some traction before the patch and is seeing more play (mostly among pro players) is Quest Warlock (possibly also with a Malygos finisher). It’s a cool build that I always wanted to make work, but it was always a pretty weak off-meta build. I’m not sure what caused its raise in play rate, but I’m actually seeing it quite commonly now in Legend.

We’ll see how things develop from now, but overall the patch had a positive impact on the meta. The only thing I’m sad about is that Shaman is still weak. Yes, it’s better than it was, but it’s still not nearly enough. I think that some of the Galakrond cards like Invocation of Frost or Corrupt Elementalist would have to be un-nerfed, because all the nerfs to this deck early in Descent of Dragons were a clear overkill (and with Electra Stormsurge and Shudderwock out of Standard now, I really don’t think that the deck would be oppressive now even with some reverted nerfs).

After 3 rounds of nerfs, Demon Hunter remains still top tier (1).
