Ultimate Hearthstone 2020 (Year of the Phoenix) Standard Rotation Schedule & Guide – Which Sets Rotate Out, Hall of Fame, How To Maximize Your Dust Gain

There seems to be quite a bit of confusion around how the Standard rotation works in Hearthstone. When each new year starts the release of the first expansion of that year will set in motion the next year of Standard, our current year is known as “Year of the Dragon” (2019/2020). The upcoming year will be known as “Year of the Phoenix” (2020/2021).

How Does the Rotation Work?

While the video below is a bit outdated, it still explains the basic concept quite well.

But if you prefer to read about it, it’s very simple. Hearthstone has two Constructed formats – Wild and Standard. Wild is the simple one – you can play every single card ever released there.

Standard, on the other hand, is a rotating format. It always consists of Evergreen sets (Basic + Classic), as well as between 4 and 6 latest expansions (up to two years worth of sets). Standard rotation happens with the first expansion of each year. After it releases, three “oldest” sets rotate out at once. Thinking that sets rotate one by one is a common misconception. When the first expansion of 2020 is released, all three sets from 2018 will be out.

So to put that in the perspective of upcoming rotation – when the first expansion of Year of the Phoenix (2020) – Ashes of Outland – will be released in April, The Witchwood, Boomsday Project, as well as Rastakhan’s Rumble will be out and only playable in Wild. We’ll be left with Evergreen sets: Classic + Basic, Year of the Dragon (2019) sets: Rise of Shadows, Saviors of Uldum, Descent of Dragons (+Galakrond’s Awakening), as well as Year of the Phoenix (2020) sets: for now only Ashes of Outland (releasing April 7).

Standard Rotation will happen when Ashes of Outland expansion releases, which is April 7, 2020.ย

Hall of Fame rotation, however, happens on March 26 – keep that in mind!

Year of the Phoenix Standard Sets

The Year of the Phoenix is the fifth year of Standard.ย This time around we already know what the first expansion will be – Ashes of Outland launches on April 7. However, we still have no clue about Expansion 2 or Expansion 3, and just like every year, Blizzard released this teaser. If you have any guesses or predictions, share them in the comments!

Here is a full list of sets that will be available in Standard after the rotation:

2020 Sets

  • Ashes of Outland
  • Expansion 2 (Released ~August 2020)
  • Expansion 3 (Released ~December 2020)

2019 Sets

Evergreen Sets

These are sets that will not rotate out of Standard.

Year of the Phoenix Hall of Fame

Hall of Fame started as a concept of rotating out cards from Evergreen sets that were too strong or problematic. Since Basic and Classic cards are in Standard forever, there are two ways to deal with them – nerf them or rotate them out to Wild, where they might not be that relevant (since the power level is higher in Wild anyway).

Year of the Phoenix rotation is kind of unique, because it’s also used as a way to rework Priest class. Anduin is getting some major changes in Basic/Classic sets, and in order to fit the new cards, six of the old ones (some of which are pretty problematic) are rotating out. Here’s a full list:

When a card rotates to Hall of Fame, players get a full Dust refund for it AND they get to keep their copies. It’s a great deal, because if you still play them in the Wild, you can keep them and get your Dust back, and if you don’t, you can even disenchant them for extra Dust. You get Dust only for the most valuable copy – so if you own both regular and Golden version of a card, you will get refunded only for the Golden.

Hall of Fame rotation happens on March 26, 2020!

How to Maximize Your Dust Gain

A rather common question we hear is about maximizing your Dust income from the cards that rotate out. It might seem a little bit confusing at first. If you don’t have the card, do you want to craft it? What do you do if you have a regular copy? How about Golden? Well, it’s actually quite simple if you just follow those few simple rules:

  • If you don’t own a card that rotates out to Hall of Fame,ย craft it in Golden. It’s the most profitable outcome. You will get your entire Dust investment back, and then you can still disenchant a Golden copy. For example, if you don’t haveย Prophet Velen, craft a Golden copy, and then disenchant it AFTER rotation.ย You will get extra 1,600 Dust for free.
  • If you own a regular playset of a Common card,ย craft it in Golden. Long story short, even if you own regular copy of a Common that rotates out to Hall of Fame, it’s still worth to craft it in Golden. While the Dust gain isn’t impressive, you end up getting an extra 10 Dust per card. E.g. if you have a regularย Acolyte of Pain, it’s still worth to craft it in Golden.
  • If you own a regular playset of Rare, Epic or Legendary cards (so two, or one in case of Legendaries),ย don’t do anything. You won’t gain more Dust by crafting it in Golden. E.g. if you already own a regularย Leeroy Jenkins or twoย Mountain Giants, just leave them. If you own only a single Rare/Epic, see the first point – craft it in Golden.

After the rotation happens, you can disenchant all of the Golden copies you’ve crafted. Or you can keep them around if you want to play with them. If you don’t play Wild and don’t plan to play it, you can disenchant the regular copies too.

But is it really worth the hassle? The answer is yes, yes it is! For a moment, let’s assume that you don’t own any of those cards. In order to craft them all in Golden, you need to invest a lot of Dust – 19,200 in total. But after they rotate out, you get ALL of that Dust back, and you still own the Golden copies. Which you can Disenchant for 5,600 Dust in total. Which means that you got 5,600 Dust essentially for free. If you don’t have enough Dust to craft all of them in Golden, start with Legendaries – those are most profitable.

And what if you own regular copies of all of those cards? Well, then you’re in for a treat! You gain 5,560 Dust for doing nothing. And then you still own all the regular copies. If you decide to Disenchant them (because you don’t play Wild), you can get extra 1,340 Dust, for 6,900 Dust gain in total.

You should wait for as long as possible with the crafting. Remember that you might still open those cards in packs before the rotation!

You only get Dust refund for up to a playset of cards (2x Common/Rare/Epic, 1x Legendary). Having more copies will not give you any more Dust. Golden copies count first – so if you e.g. own 1x Golden and 2x normal, you will get Dust for 1x Golden and 1x normal. If you own 1x Normal and 1x Gold you will also get Dust for both.

The guide above is about maximizing your Dust gain. If you actually care about Golden Copies of the cards that rotate out, it’s worth to craft them even if you have regular ones! This way you get an “upgrade” for free, while gaining Dust for the regular copy that you can disenchant after.

Keep in mind that Dust refund applies only to cards that rotate to Hall of Fame. The regular yearly rotation DOES NOT give you back your Dust. If you don’t play Wild and you don’t plan on ever playing it, you can still disenchant them for their regular disenchant gains (400 per Legendary, 100 per Epic etc.) – but it’s really up to you.

Most Important Cards Rotating Out in 2020

While Hall of Fame is an important part of every Standard year, the actual rotation is what people are waiting for. Year of the Raven (2018) sets will rotate out and will no longer be playable in Standard. While it’s not the most impactful rotation ever, those still contain a lot of powerful cards that players will have to find replacements for. Many decks will be straight up unplayable, because some of their key cards will be gone.

Here are our articles listing the most important cards rotating out in 2020. Part 3 still isn’t out yet, but it should be soon!

Is the “Dust refund” only for hall of fame cards ? OR will it also apply to the cards moving from standard to wild when YEAR OF THE PHOENIX starts ?

    Someone please let me know

    Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

Damnation missed 4920 dust profit from goldens to be bought on my sons HS account for not seeing the hall of fame rotation date in time .. ๐Ÿ™ (please more highlighting more advance next year), Son only 1y 9m old, but ill bet he’ll be mad when he hears his father fucked up his dust mountain this year!

It’s too late now to craft em goldens? The rotation happened already?

Concerning maximizing dust, if I already own a golden copy of Leeroy, is it worth crafting a regular non-gold version?

what you’re asking is like asking if it’s worth to buy a cheap used car when you had a brand new sport car.

So I was wondering if this would maximise my dust gain. Could someone pls confirm whether I’m right or not cos I’m afraid of losing dust.
Right now I don’t have Velen (neither golden or non-golden). If I disenchant 4 legendaries that are rotating out and use the 1600 dust to craft a non-golden Velen, would I be gaining dust after Velen gets Hall of famed.
    This is the math.
I disenchant 4 legendaries that are rotating out = I gain 1600 dust
    I enchant non-golden Velen = I lose 1600 dust
Velen gets hall of famed = I get 1600 dust
    I disenchant Velen = I get 400 dust
Altogether I get 2000 dust (1600-1600+1600+400) which is 400 dust more than the 1600 dust I would get if I did not enchant Velen and disenchanted the 4 legendaries which rotate out?

Erm … more ‘read, guys’ than ‘read carefully’… No offense here, but how did you come to the conclusion that Doomsayer gets HoFd? No card even has a similar sounding name. Just asking because I’m curious. :/

I was looking up epics to craft in golden and I found my doomsayer with only one copy. Happily pressed that button with utter certainty…

I donโ€™t own a common/rare/epic card that rotates out to Hall of Fame. Should I craft ONE golden copy or TWO??

  9. Lupin
    March 18, 2020 at 10:07 am

    Why you said:

“If you own a regular playset of a Common card, craft it in Golden. Long story short, even if you own regular copy of a Common that rotates out to Hall of Fame, itโ€™s still worth to craft it in Golden. While the Dust gain isnโ€™t impressive, you end up getting an extra 10 Dust per card. E.g. if you have a regular Acolyte of Pain, itโ€™s still worth to craft it in Golden.”

“If you own a regular playset of Rare, Epic or Legendary cards (so two, or one in case of Legendaries), donโ€™t do anything. You wonโ€™t gain more Dust by crafting it in Golden. E.g. if you already own a regular Leeroy Jenkins or two Mountain Giants, just leave them. If you own only a single Rare/Epic, see the first point โ€“ craft it in Golden.”

Considering that, sorry if im doing a question that already have an answer but, its not clear to me yet, i have the regular hall of fame set minus shadow form and elven, i will craft elven and both shadow form in golden version, also i want to know if i craft golden leeroy and mountain giants i will receive the golden dust cost of the three cards, in that scenario i will obtain 6400 in dust refund and 2400 for disenchant them, having a total of 8600 in dust? So if that is the case, it’s worth to craft the golden legendary and epics

Just clarify in order not to make any HUGE mistakes…If i have 1 regular and 1 golden version I get refund only for golden?
-which will be kinda bad since I had 2 normal and i disenchanted one after crafting a golden version – in this case I lost dust?

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      March 18, 2020 at 7:07 am

You always get Dust for a full playset, so 1 for Legendaries and 2 for Commons/Rares/Epics.

1x Normal and 1x Golden is still a full playset, so you will get Dust for both. I will clarify it in the post.

      • Mikek12003
        March 18, 2020 at 7:31 am

So seems only mistake i made is crafting a golden leeroy when i had normal (and thus from what I understand will get refund only for golden since he is legendary)

Many thanks for the info ๐Ÿ™‚

          March 18, 2020 at 9:09 pm

You got a free upgrade to a golden legendary, so not really much of a mistake. You’ll just only make a profit of 400 if you dust your regular Leeroy, where as if you dust golden Leeroy you’ll make the same profit you would have keeping regular Leeroy but for far more investment.

Total dust for Year of the Phoenix (2020) rotation, assuming you have all the cards in regular (non-golden) set

    1600 + 400+400 + 100+100 + 40+40 + 40+40 + 100+100 + 40+40 + 100+100 + 40+40 + 400+400 + 1600
    =
    5720

(please correct me if i’m wrong)

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      March 18, 2020 at 7:12 am

Divine Spirit and Northshire Cleric are Basic cards, not Commons. You don’t get any Dust for Basic cards since they’re free ๐Ÿ™‚

You get 5560 Dust (160 Dust, or 4 commons less than you calculated) if you own normal (non-golden) copies of all of those cards.

Not true. When Mind Blast and Vanish rotated out they were converted to common cards and you were given a dust refund.

There’s no reason why the same won’t happen for Divine Spirit and Northshire Cleric. They’ll be converted into commons and you’ll get a refund for them.

  14. Powerlvl9000
    April 2, 2019 at 9:25 am

โ€œAnd what if you own regular copies of all of those cards? Well, then youโ€™re in for a threat! You gain 5,560 Dust for doing nothing. And then you still own all the regular copies. If you decide to Disenchant them, you can get extra 1,340 Dust, for 6,900 Dust gain in total.โ€œ

Need to update article..you meant to say: โ€œin for a treat!โ€ Not threat. Lol

    Also….
Iโ€™ve reread everything about maximizing dust multiple times and Iโ€™m still confused.

I donโ€™t own genn greymane. I donโ€™t have enough dust to craft it into golden. Is it worth it to just craft it normally? Would I gain any extra dust on April 9th?

I have just about 1,600 crafting right now so if golden is the only way to make a profit. Should I craft one golden epic hall of fame card instead? And Whatโ€™s the math on that…-1600 for crafting..get it back for 1600.. and then craft it again for another 400? So golden epics give you +400 whereas if you can craft a golden legendary you donโ€™t have..youโ€™ll make +1600 extra crafting?

Am I right? Thanks in adv for clarifying everything. I made an account just to comment on this great article! Thankyou.

    • Skoopy
      April 3, 2019 at 2:50 am

Tp clarify as short as possible: if you dont have ANY copy. try to craft it.
The math for your Genn is to craft it for 1600, than getting all 1600 back, with the opportunity to dust it for another 400 extra = 400 Dust profit.
A golden Epic is the same. 1600 for golden, than getting back 1600 and dusting it for 400. But this only works if you dont have any copy of that Card.
Golden Legendary is 3200 to craft it. Than getting 3200 back and than getting 1600 for dusting it. Exactly!

  15. Cypherr
    March 29, 2019 at 6:30 am

    Guys can someone please answer me if I see it correctly;

    OP says if you already own copy of non-golden card that is going to hall of fame, don’t craft golden cause you won’t get any bonusdust;

But if I own for example non-golden Genn Greymane and disenchant him, craft golden one and then getting HOF refund and disenchant him the math should be like this: +400 – 3200 +3200 + 1600 = 2000 whereas if I don’t own golden legendary and just craft and de+refund I earn 1600

if i have more than two copies of a card rotating out, will i get dust for all copies or for just 2 of them?

    • Rafinad
      March 26, 2019 at 9:26 pm

Only for 2 copies. If its legendary then for 1 copy of it.

      • Meekycheeky
        March 26, 2020 at 9:00 am

also worth noting it prioritizes the more valuable copies so if you have golden you’ll get the dust refund for those

    • Skoopy
      March 28, 2019 at 4:40 am

thats wrong. “rotating” means, that you can decide if you wanna keep them or not. if you have lets say 5 copies, you can dust all 5 copies.
I think you are talking about Hall of Fame right? Naturalize and stuff? For those Cards you will get 100% dust refund. so if you have one normal Baku you will get 1600 and than you can decide if you keep it for wild or dusting it. So you get 2000 Dust for Baku if you dont play wild. BUT: you only get the dust of the better Card. So lets say you have somehow a golden and a normal baku. Than you will get 3200 for Golden Hall of Famed baku, and than 1600 for dusting it. the normal one you only get 400 for dusting it. Same goes for all other Hall of Famed cards. if you have 2 copies of each, just do nothing! cause you wont get any extra dust. If you dont have a copy of a Card which is going into HoF, than craft in golden if you can, for most profit. I hope thats understandable :).

      • Goodbyesign
        April 1, 2019 at 1:57 am

sooooo basically you only get dust for two copies max?

        • Skoopy
          April 1, 2019 at 2:25 am

exactly! The “better one” will get prioritized. And you only get 2 copies 100% refund, cause you can only put 2 in a single deck. So lets say you have 2 Golden and 2 normal Black Cats. Than you will only get full dust refund for the 2 golden ones. After that you can disentchant both golden and normal.

    March 16, 2019 at 11:06 am

If I craft any of these cards, would I craft them and wait to disenchant until after the dust refund? In other words, do they have to be in your collection to get the refund?
I’ve only been playing for about a year and have just enough dust in my savings to craft gen and baku so I really don’t want to mess this up lol.

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      March 22, 2019 at 10:36 am

Yes, they do have to be in your collection at the time rotation hits (so on April 9th) to get the refund.

  19. Dark
    March 12, 2019 at 2:04 am

Question, isn’t it worth crafting the legendaries in golden? Since the dust will be refunded and I can enjoy golden hero power with whatever decks I play them in

    • Dark
      March 12, 2019 at 2:06 am

even if I own the normal copies that is, I don’t win or lose dust but I will have golden hero power for free

      • Taznak
        March 22, 2019 at 7:07 pm

Not for free. If you have regular Baku, then you get full dust value for it (1600).

If you own regular Baku and craft golden Baku, you spend 3200 dust, then get the 3200 dust back for a net gain of zero dust. Youโ€™d then have to disenchant the golden Baku to end up with +1600 net dust like in the first case.

So, you can choose to gain 1600 dust, or to get Golden Baku. If you do care about the golden hero power, this is a chance to get it for cheaper than you otherwise could (1600 dust cost instead of the normal 3200 dust to craft a golden Legendary).

        • HeyRicardo
          March 23, 2019 at 10:57 am

In other words, I’d say that crafting golden having regular card is like saying you’re cashing in 1600 from regular, then (no matter when) you may craft golden card at your wish and think of it as discounted just because you are spending those refunded 1600.

Conclusion: just look at regular cards, those who own them will have free dust, others will have free cards (or less dust from disenchating them later on)

        • Dark
          March 23, 2019 at 2:17 pm

Yeah it dawned on me a few days later, thankfully I didn’t trust my math and waited before crafting them.
probably not worth it since golden hero power will be limited to decks containing them and wild ONLY
I will take the free 3200 dust from the regulars

    Awesome guide thanks!
One common case not covered though: what if you have only one of a set in non-golden (or golden)?

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      March 4, 2019 at 4:10 am

It’s covered: “If you donโ€™t own a card that rotates out to Hall of Fame, craft it in Golden.”

If you own 1 out of 2 Gloom Stags (for example), then it means that you don’t own a card that rotates out to Hall of Fame, and you want to craft it in Golden.

  21. TheMessenJah
    March 3, 2019 at 5:09 am

I already have two regular copies of Gloom Stag (an epic druid card).
If i craft tow golden copies of that card and disenchant the regular ones, when the rotation happens i will get the total amount of dust i spent crafting the golden ones and i will have an extra 200 dust (for disenchanting the regular ones).
I think i’m correct and i dont understand why the autor of this text doesnt explained this….

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      March 3, 2019 at 5:12 am

That’s because you are not correct…

If you don’t do anything, you get 800 Dust. Then you Disenchant those for 200 and have 1,000 in total.

Now you craft 2x Golden Epic and spend 3,200 Dust. Then you get 3,200 Dust back and you’re 0 Dust ahead/behind. Then you Disenchant 2x Golden for 800 and 2x regular for 200 and you’re at… exactly, 1,000.

I’ve been through three Standard rotations already and wrote this guide every time, I REALLY know what to do to maximize your Dust.

      • TheMessenJah
        March 3, 2019 at 6:50 am

        You’re right!
I was just thinking as an golden cards collector. In the situation i explained i wouldnยดt loose any dust in the process, but i would not gain so much dust
        tkx

        • Stonekeep - Site Admin
          March 3, 2019 at 8:21 am

Hence why this is a guide on how to maximize your Dust. Most of the players don’t care about Golden cards, especially Golden cards in Wild.

But yes, if you care about a Golden collection, then you should craft everything that rotates out to HoF in Golden.

  22. Skoopy
    March 2, 2019 at 2:53 pm

Okay, so here is my situation:
i do have regular ones of:
Baku, Genn, Black Cat, Murkspark Eel and Gloomstag.
I dont have any copy of Glittermoth.
So to maximize my dust, i craft 2 golden Glittermoths?
And why not making a golden Genn, if i get this right: i invest 3200, getting back 3200 and the 1600 for Hall of Faming it, and than 400 for disentchant right? So either way 2000 Dust for a Legendary?
What about my Glittermoths i dont have yet, will i get 1600 per golden Glittermoth? if i dont have regular ones? iam so confused.
What is my way to get the max out of it: I have all cards in Normal except Glittermoth, no normal and no golden. Appreciate any answer!!! THX

So I have regular Genn and Baku, if I craft them golden and i keep the golden copies after rotation does that gives me free Golden legendaries?

    • PennFifteen
      March 2, 2019 at 9:02 am

Yeah, if I’m reading your question correctly.

If you craft both of them Golden before the rotation you will be granted the prized Dust for the two Golden copies for free. You then can DE the regular copies for 400 Dust each and keep the Goldens.

      • Kriswolf
        March 3, 2019 at 1:18 am

Yeah thats what Im asking, thanks so Ill have golden legendaries for free its lovely

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      March 2, 2019 at 12:24 pm

Yes, you can do that if you care about Golden cards. If you keep your Golden copies and Disenchant the regular ones, you get +400 Dust and upgrade to Golden version.

But if you don’t do anything, you get 1,600 Dust (or possibly 2,000 if you Disenchant the regular version too). So it depends on whether you’re looking to maximize your Dust gain or want to keep the Golden copies.

Sorry i dont get it why dont craft genn and baku in golden if i own regular copys already?

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      March 2, 2019 at 2:12 am

You can do that, but it doesn’t give you anything extra.

E.g. you have a regular Baku. You get 1,600 Dust and then you can disenchant it for 400 = you get 2,000 in total.

      You craft it in Golden. You spend 3,200 Dust, then gain 3,200 Dust back, then Disenchant both copies for 1,600 + 400. -3,200 + 3,200 + 1,600 + 400 = 2,000.

Literally the same thing either way. So no reason to bother, unless you want to play around with Golden Legendaries for a while.

      • LeatheeBoots
        March 2, 2019 at 2:16 am

Dosnt they give you full 3200 for each of
them when rotation hits and you can still diss them. What is the diffrence if you dont own either od them, why do you profit then and not when you own regular?

      • LeatheeBoots
        March 2, 2019 at 2:29 am

But wait dosnt disenchant also give you full dust just Like when they nerf a card. Or it dosnt because they already give you full dust cost?

          Regular Dust for DE

        • Stonekeep - Site Admin
          March 2, 2019 at 12:52 pm

No, you get normal Disenchant values since you get a full Dust refund back anyway.

          • Poison
            March 4, 2019 at 1:35 am

and thats why you should craft the golden ones even if you have the regular one (GENN+BAKU)
..you spend 3200 for each, then get 3200 back for each, but if you disenchant the golden ones and keep the regular ones you have made 1600 “value” for each legendary

          • Poison
            March 5, 2019 at 7:41 am

exactly and the normal dustrefund is basically making plus

(you spend 3200 then get 3200 back then disenchant golden legendary to get 1600)

    March 1, 2019 at 7:14 pm

    oh, i got it.
if the card will be in hall of fame.
you will get dust amount of that card.
maybe if it only give dust for 1 legendary copy and 2 for non legendary copy card. (i think more copy not refunded).
thats why you must craft it.

if it golden you will got more refund.
if you not play wild you can uncraft it and got dust again.

thats i got, correct me i wrong.

  26. Redmage
    March 1, 2019 at 5:05 pm

Just to triple check, you are saying that There will be a refund for two copies of any non-legendary cards, which includes the moth and stag, so if we don’t have them we should craft two copies in golden for a net dust equal to the disenchant value of the specific card.

And with common cards, we should disenchant our standard copies and make golden copies because it still only picks two and will net us 10 dust?

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      March 2, 2019 at 1:07 am

      Yes, that’s correct.

But with the Commons, don’t disenchant regular ones. Just craft them in Golden, and then Disenchant Golden once they rotate out. You will be left with regular copies and +10 Dust per card. You can THEN Disenchant regular copies for +5 Dust per card too, but that’s probably unnecessary if you ever want to play the Wild.

Can I disenchant the cards after it has been rotated out?

    • Redmage
      March 1, 2019 at 5:09 pm

I believe you want to wait for the cards that will go into the hall of fame to rotate first, because you will get the dust cost of the card during the rotation as blizzard apologizing for hall of faming your card, then you can dust the card for a dust profit.

    • Taznak
      March 22, 2019 at 7:17 pm

Yes. Disenchanting cards after they rotate out of standard works exactly the same as disenchanting cards that are part of Standard.

In the case of cards moving to the Hall of Fame, you want to make sure you get the free dust for having them on April 9, before disenchanting them.

You need to purchase the wings for the cards u want for example if you want moroes you need the 1st wing and u can craft all the epics rares and commons there but if u want bares the curator or medivh u need to keep purchasing wings till u get to the wing that contains them.

just plain and simple..blizzard doesnt care what we want or think! Its all about how much money they can pump out of a person..Our opinions me nil! Thats why i quit playing WOW after i had played it since vanilla and hearthstone since beginning..They really are not helpful and truly dont care about anything but cash..Ive asked for help and asked questions and all i get is ignored..Have fun remember if you dont pay you wont win much!!

Im going to have to disagree with this actually, as I have paid no money for the game and yet I win plenty and enjoy myself. Blizzard isn’t perfect but in my opinion this is one of the best games that doesn’t absolutely require money to win, obviously it goes faster with money but it is doable.

    • Allen
      February 8, 2017 at 1:03 am

Well I see it from a different perspective. Why are you going to work? Correct to earn money to pay your bills. And so is it at blizzard. They spend a lot of ressources to create a game and update it with new cards. It is a business otherwise they won’t do it…so is it at other TCG like Magic, Yugioh, Pokemon…you name it!
BUT at HS you have the choice to not spend any dollar to play the game. Printed cardgames don’t have this option… no money, no game!

      Think it over dude:)

Should I dust my LoE and BRM legendaries before the rotation to get maximum dust, or are wild legendaries worth the same as in-rotation legendaries in dust?

    • Evident
      January 24, 2017 at 8:26 am

Wild Legendaries are worth the same, so there’s no need to dust them right away. You also want to wait and see if there’s any kind of nerfs when Standard rotates because you could a full dust refund on some cards.

This is not a good rotation if cards are only rotated out during first expansion each year this means tat approx gadgetzan lasts only a year and a half in standard while old gods get to stay in standard for a whole 2 years juz like loe and brm when they rotates out next expansion. It sucks and is juz not fair i dun get to play gadgetzan cards in standard longer and had to spent hard earn dust crafting new cards for standard

I am thinking about starting into Heartstone. What should I purchase to get into it? Should I get in now before rotation? Put any money into packs that are rotating out? January 18, 2017 at 2:20 pm

If you plan on only playing Standard then I would avoid getting anything that rotates out soon. Classic packs have some of the best cards, and the majority of them will not rotate out (and if they do you get a full dust refund). Adventure’s generally have the most value, but two of them are rotating out so your only real option is Karazhan. I would wait until the rotation, but if you can’t wait then try to find a deck you want to play and focus on crafting that. Aggro Pirate Warrior is a great competitive deck that is cheap and doesn’t really require any Adventure cards that can’t be subbed out. Here’s a list: http://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/decks/aggro-pirate-warrior-deck-list-guide/ The only card I would say you really need is Patches.

I don’t think the quotes are enough to guarantee that the we’re going to have an expansion in march-april instead of an adventure. Both are written in a generic way and can be interpreted in different ways.

We are loosing 2 adventures and 1 expansion, in other words, less cards than 2 expansions and 1 adventure. So, having an adventure instead of an expansion in march-april wouldn’t be that bad about the number of cards in standard.

I’m not saying that I think we’re going to have an adventure in march-april, just that I’m not sure about Blizzard plans. Sometimes I think not even them know for sure what’s going to happen. :\

  44. chris
    November 27, 2016 at 11:37 am

i for one can not highly advise enough that you do NOT dust your old cards. Blizzard has said that nothing about standard is set in stone. things could one day change with this format that would bring those rotated cards back into the light of day.

    Why in 2017 there are:
    – New Expansion
    – New Adventure
    – New Expansion

    They are supposed to be:
    – New Adventure
    – New Expansion
    – New Adventure

We used to have adventure after expansion and expansion after adventure not two consecutive expansions right??

    • Evident
      November 27, 2016 at 8:48 am

It would make sense because we’re losing a lot of cards due to the rotation. So the first new set could very well be an expansion to make up for the loss of cards to Standard.

This is also a quote from the official Blizzard Standard post:

When we release the first new Expansion each year, every set that wasnโ€™t released in the same year or the year prior will cycle out and no longer be part of the Standard format. [Source]

Also, this was mentioned in the Blizzard Q&A at BlizzCon (paraphrased): They are evaluating the best way to release cards, e.g., through expansions or adventures. They are pretty happy with two expansions and an adventure each year. [Source]

      • MrRip
        December 1, 2016 at 5:04 pm

It doesn’t really make sense. 1: blizzard has always released expansions and adventures in an alternating pattern. 2: the year of the kraken had only 2 expansions in it, with TGT and WOTG, and 2 adventures, upon its implementation. With the release of MSOG and Karazhan it has 3 exp. and 3 adv. When the new standard year hits, we will lose 2 adv. and 1 exp, but still have MSOG and WOTG, plus karazhan and the next adventure. 2017 will surely start with an adventure, whereupon it would make sense for the standard year to progress, otherwise we’ll have 4 adventures and 3 expansions all being played simultaneously while we wait for the next expansion in the middle of the year.

Essentially, each standard year should start with 2 adventures and 2 expansions as playable (regardless of whether it was an adventure or expansion that initiated the year rotation) but end up with 3 adv. and 3 exp.

        • Evident
          December 1, 2016 at 6:26 pm

I don’t agree, aside from Blizzard flat out saying “we’re happy with two expansions and one adventure a year.” The year with two adventures and one expansion was prior to Standard releasing. Once Standard hit, the whole game changed. We’ll see what happens in the Spring.

It’s unlikely because they would have to do two expansions back to back if they plan to do two a year at some point. It makes the most sense to do an expansion right at the beginning of the new Standard year to make up for the loss of a lot of cards.
