Mulligans

General Mulligans

The most important choice you will make is your mulligan.

Tips:

1. Mulligan with your curve in mind.

2. Standard is now well defined. Think about what your opponent will be playing each turn and how you can create a value position(s).

3. Be highly selective with your muligan. I generally only keep 1-2 cards if any.

4. Use your muligan time to formulate your gameplan for the first 4 turns. I rarely keep anything above 2 mana unless I have a 1-3 game plan.

5. Watch what your opponent keeps and mulligans first!  That is important information. After they muligan, do your own muligan.

Hi Guys and Gals,

Guess what I just got? Level 5 in wild. Woot, woot. Am I going for legend? Nope, I already got the card back and it takes to dang long. Ha.

Do you know what that means?!? Now I can focus on trolling n00bs in standard with you al!… I mean “explore new concepts in deck building.”

The deck:

Mage’s are best known for their amazing spells, card draw and OTK ability. With that being said, I did what anyone would have done. I completely ignored all those cards and abilities and made a minion based Reno Mage list.

It sounds terrible, however it’s actually strong. I’m 17-3  out of my first 20 games and went from rank 12 to6 in a day.

The thesis of the deck is “spells are bad in standard minions are good.” In addition to spells being bad, the life gain in standard is just outright terrible. So, even if you do stabilize at say 15 life with blizzard flame strike, you just die to Leroy Jenkins, C’Thun, call of the wild or Yogg-Sarron, Hopes end. Finaly, your OP is able to do these shinanigans because every time you cast a spell  you lost tempo and board presance. So, they never had to use their combo to clear the board. So to recap, standard  is a minion based format that is kill or be killed. There is no ” control” or “grind.”

With all that being said, there is still hope for those who do not want to Smorc. Standard still has many great value creatures that key off of battlecry.  Therefore, this deck seeks to control the board through minions. We do this by controlling the  opposition (who attacks first) with those strong Battlecry minions that pick off the opponents threats while adding to our own board. In practice, we just steam roll our opponents with on curve critters that have battlecry effects.
