Mulligans

General Mulligans

Again, Mulligan hard for Faerie Dragon, Jeweled Scarab, Blackwing Technician, and Squirming Tentacle.  I would probably keep Wild Pyromancer and Sword of Justice in my starting hand.  Finally, Truesilver, especially with the coin, and Cyclopian Horror are two additional cards I might keep in an opening hand.

Reno Dragon Paladin Season 28

Thank you for taking the time to look at my Reno Dragon Paladin deck!  I have really had fun playing this deck and wanted to offer the list up to the community in the hope that other players would enjoy this fun deck.

The deck is not for the faint of heart!  To begin, this deck is not easy to play.  A poor start against many of the current decks being played can result in an early loss.  I am currently at a 50% win rate with this deck out of 53-52 games.  However, the decks has been in constant change, and I believe it has been a bit better than 50% with the latest changes.

So what makes this deck different or worth playing?  Dragon synergy and Reno!

Mulligan

Of course your starting hand is dependent on what you think your facing, but trying to insure you have early minions to contest the board, especially against hunter, shaman and zoo variations is important.  Faerie Dragon, Jeweled Scarab, Wild Pyromancer, Blackwing Technician and Squirming Tentacle are the early cards that will help you face that early rush.

I am of the school of thought that Reno should be kept in the opening hand, as its a powerful part of what makes this deck work.  But, do what feels right here.  If you think it works better to Mulligan for an early game card instead, I can not say its wrong.

Additionally, if I had a good draw, especially if I have the coin, I might keep the Sword of Justice or even Truesilver Champion in some circumstances.

General Strategy

Basically, this deck wins by out lasting rush decks.  Your minions are better and you have the ability to heal from the early damaged received.  Your focus should be board control and damaged mitigation.  Also, don’t be too greedy with Reno.  Saving him too long has costs me a few games.

Against control decks, you have a good solid mid game, and several powerful end game closing minions like Tirion Fordring, Nefarian and Ysera.  An unanswered Scaled Nightmare can also become very powerful.

Finally, Forbidden Healing has been included in the deck, along with Tuskarr Jouster, to help buy you the time needed to find Reno.

Combinations

While this is not a combination deck, several cards work well together.  Keeper of Uldaman followed by Blackwing Corrupter can clear a large minion and Equality and Wild Pyromancer give you an entire board clear.

Card Substitutions and Alternatives

There are currently two cards in the deck that I am not certain are the perfect choice for their cost slot.  Wild Pyromancer and Dragonkin Sorcerer.

Wild Pyromancer is included for the above mentioned combination with Equality.  However, it is rare that I have had both in my hand, and needed to use them in combination.  More often, Wild Pyromancer sits unplayed, waiting for that perfect moment, which nine times out of ten never happens.

Dragonkin Sorcerer’s value is diminished, as there are no cards to give him a buff, and he is only included because he is a dragon, and thus helps fire Blackwing Technician, Twilight Guardian and Blackwing Corrupter.

Play style changes:  if you find you are having difficulty surviving through the early turns, consider removing Nefarian or Ysera and adding a Doomsayer or another card to help in the early game.  Or, you can also remove the questionable Dragonkin Sorcerer, and add two early game cards.

Closing

Thank you for looking at Reno Dragon Paladin, I hope you have fun playing this deck.  I look forward to hearing what changes or strategies work best for you.

You should add both deathwings if possible. I did it and it was so much fun watching them concede.

I would say any of the big dragons would be fine. Alex, Chromaggus, even Onyxia although this wouldn’t be my first choice. If you don’t have any of these, just go with your best big finisher. Ragnaros or even Rafaam. If you don’t have any of those, just try a good solid card like Cairne or Sylvanas. Finally, if none of those fit, use our best minion even something like a Sunwalker.

I haven’t tried Alex, but it would definitely fit the deck nicely. The only deck that it seems to go to fatigue regularly with is control warrior as sometimes all that armor can be problematic. Which cards are you missing? I’m sure alternates could be found.

Hooray another Dragon Pally player coming up out of this community!

I wonder if you have tried alex out in this deck. Could be a decent heal if Reno is at the bottom of your deck or a quick 15 dmg against another control deck, especially a warrior.

I would test this out but I am missing a few pieces. You wind up going to fatigue a lot against ctrl decks?
