Mulligans
This is a list inspired by the several Recruit options available to Druid in Kobolds and Catacombs. It aims to use powerful early game Taunt minions like Crypt Lord, Deathlord and Tar Creeper to stay alive, follow it up with mid-game plays like your early Recruit cards Oaken Summons and Guild Recruiter, and then begin dropping your big dudes, Grizzled Guardian being one of the key cards, and finally utilising the amazing board building offered by Oakheart and N’Zoth to overwhelm your opponent.
This is a highly defensive list, aiming to always have a Taunt minion of some kind on the board, and with the many Recruit cards and sticky minions it’s incredibly resillient. An opponent throwing their minions into yours wanting to break through to your hero is going to have a bad time. Aside from your Taunt guys, Astral Tiger can be used to great effect, offering an easy way to maintain Recruit fuel, as well as having some nice synergy with N’Zoth.
The deck has a lot of redundancy with the plethora of Deathrattle minions to get back with N’Zoth, and several great pulls for Master Oakheart, meaning that unlike some lists that need to save those kinds of cards for later in the game, in this deck you should always get some value from them, even on curve.
The hardest thing in constructing this list was keeping the balance between Recruiters and Recruitees. My list right now has 10 of the cards you want Recruited, and 5 total “(4) or less” pull effects from Oaken Summons, Guild Recruiter and the Grizzled Guardian. This coupled with the ability of Astral Tiger allowing you to get extra Recruits as well as N’Zoth duplicating it and Grizzled Guardian should mean the deck won’t run out of juice in most matchups.
I’m excited to try this list once the new expansion comes out (if I get the cards/dust for it), and it seems like it has a lot potential as a meta dark horse, not oppresive but able to hold its own in several situations.
If you have any feedback on the list, feel free to leave it down below. I haven’t done many of my own decklists, so I might still have a lot to learn.
Thanks for reading!
