Mulligans

General Mulligans

Do whatever you need to complete the quest quickly and control the board. Consider keeping Mr Smite in certain situations. Deciding whether to hold two 3 drops at mulligan is difficult, but if you the quest, a 2 drop and a 3 drop its generally worth keeping. The weapon should never be kept at mulligan.

Normally the quest will complete on turn 7, playing Rakora on that turn as well, but it can sometimes be done on turn 6 using blood sail deckhand. Sword Eater is fairly situational and is imo a better keep with the coin than on the play e.g. vs troggs.

This is the deck that finally got me to Legend in Dec 2021. The games are fairly fast, which helped me to minimize rank fatigue and burn out, and it is very strong in almost all match ups.

In this version, I opted for very little creature removal, which helped me to curve out the pirates and complete the quest quickly. This is crucial vs fast control combo decks like the OTK owl warlock.

I added one royal librarian to disrupt key blockers e.g. played by paladin and priest decks, and it can also be shuffled back in as needed to find another pirate. The 3/4 snake weapon killer (rustrot viper) could also have been useful for killing the key weapons in paladin and warlock. Outriders axe was extremely useful to keep the draw going and synergized fairly well with cutting class. Depending on the matchup, and the rest of my hand, I often held Mr Smite at mulligan, since generally the next few draws would probably be cheap.

My win rate was 60% +, but I reset my stats so don’t have the exact figure.
