Deck Import

Malygos Warlock is one of the few top deck lists that is fairly new. The deck is also one of the only decks that employs Blackwing Corruptor, a card that was thought to be a staple of impending Dragon decks which ended up being rarely used. The deck is fairly reliant on Emperor Thaurissan and its ability to reduce burn spells for a turn 9 or 10 Malygos. Once this is achieved, it only needs to survive long enough to pull off a devastating combo.

Malygos Warlock Update – March 2016 (Season 24)

Unfortunately, it seems like Malylock has seen quite a drop off in play. It might be time to shelf this deck for now, and see what Standard brings.

Malygos Warlock Mulligan Guide and Strategy

Dark Peddler and Zombie Chow are your strong general keeps. Darkbomb is good against aggressive minions like Knife Juggler, Mana Wyrm, and Tunnel Trogg. You should keep Twilight Drake and Twilight Guardian against Midrange or Control decks where you know you’ll be tapping or not being pressured. Earthen Ring Farseer is a good keep against aggressive decks.

Malygos Warlock Tech Cards

Big Game Hunter, Sludge Belcher, and Ironbeak Owl will be 2s and 1s depending on which way the meta is shaping up. Imp Gang Boss is another card that sometimes sees play and sometimes doesn’t.

Malygos Warlock Card Substitutions (Replacements)

Keep in mind that replacements for cards are rarely ever going to be perfect. It’s usually easiest to try and come close to what the card accomplishes in the deck, or double up an already existing card in the deck.

I will sometimes get requests for replacements for Malygos. It’s usually a safe bet that if the card is in the title of the deck then it probably can’t be replaced. Emperor Thaurissan is another card that would be very difficult to play without.

Malygos Warlock Combos and Synergies

Abusive Sergeant is great for trading smaller minions for bigger ones, but an often overlooked synergy is with Big Game Hunter. Have to deal with a Loatheb or Emperor Thaurissan? Well, you can use Abusive Sergeant on one of them which turns it into a 7-attack minion that is BGH-able.

Emperor Thaurissan is really what makes this deck possible. You save it for when you have your combo pieces in hand, e.g., Soulfire, Darkbomb, and Malygos. You can then drop your 8-mana Malygos and play Soulfire for free and Darkbomb for 1-mana each. This is a combo of 25 damage directly to the face!

Dark Peddler is a great card in this deck because it allows you to get away without playing double Soulfire. The Discover mechanic actually favors receiving cards from the class your playing, so you are far more likely to find a Warlock card than a Neutral one. This leaves you open to finding Soulfire, Power Overwhelming, Flame Imp, or Voidwalker just to name a few!

Brann Bronzebeard, while not being essential, does have nice synergy with this deck. You can double up your Twilight Drake, or increase the attack of Twilight Guardian. The ability to draw two cards from Azure Drake, or deal six damage with Blackwing Corruptor isn’t bad either!

Any consideration for Alex in this deck? Would help get the opponent into burst range, plus adds some dragon synergy.

I personally run Alex. I actually removed Ironbeak Owl & Shadowflame for Alex & Blackwing Tech. The extra minion for trades helps early and Alex means I only have to save 2 spells to finish my opponent (or 1 + minions to face)

I really like this deck, won 2 games right of the bat with it. Drawing 2 more soulfires from dark peddlers.
Malygos was my last card in both games, still burst them down with around 20-30 dmg same turn malygos got down each time. two thumbs up (Y)

    The games was:
Control Priest and Control warrior if anyone is interested

This deck is really just terrible……… you cant get board presence and you dont have the survivability of a freeze mage.. plus at 9 mana you can only do like 10 damage in one turn with maly.. wtf is this deck

This deck has many win condition aside from thaurissan+maly+soulfire+dark bomb combo (up to 25 dmg) , and mostly it’s board control instead of combo.

Also part of the reason this is a warlock deck and not warrior or priest is because you can draw a lot of cards early game and really get value out of thaurissan.

    Good replacement for twilight guardian?

Second Defender of Argus and Hellfire, but that’s a very difficult card to play without. You really want those extra Dragon cards (and taunt), you could consider trying Dragonkin Sorcerer, but it doesn’t synergize with the deck. You could also consider Sen’jin Shieldmasta for the extra defense. I would have said Sludge Belcher, but the deck already has so many five drops.

It’s a good card, I’m not sure it fits in this deck though. Let me know how it works out for you!

Chillmaw replacement? A late game finisher or just a big taunt?

Probably another late game Dragon like Chromaggus or Nefarian.

Chillmaw is the anti-Patron and therefore not really replaceable.

Is earthen ring farseer really necessary? Id rather have Sludge belchers

The deck will be updated when there’s a solid TGT list.

You don’t need a presence on board, but to clear the board, BW tech is better

Isn’t imp Gang boss better than Blackwing technician? If you are unlucky and don’t get dragon they are same stats and imp gang boss already represents 3-5 worth of stats unless it’s silenced….and even if it is…what a waste of silence

impgang boss doesn’t contest 3-health minions

Blackwing Technician gives away you are a dragon warlock. An imp gang boss on 3 into a twilight drake on 4 keeps te opponent wary of you being a handlock, and therefore wont hit you to 13 and below.

I also really value the fact that it produces tokens. This way, you can have increased answers, especially to secret paladins. It’s a free “get down” trigger.
