Mulligans

Aggro Mulligans

Aim for early removals while looking for the heavy minions to taunt up.

Midrange Mulligans

Taunting or Silencing your Eerie statue can call for your oppenent to bring out the heavy removal very early on. Which is what you want. Darkbomb to remove Knife Jugglers and Darnassus Aspirant is also recommended.

Control Mulligans

Having heavy bodies to play on turn 4 and 6 doesn't let you fall behind.

Experimental: This deck is a work in progress. Refinement may be necessary.

Keep in mind that the deck is made in a way which even if the Eerie statue is buried in your last cards of the deck many winning conditions continue to apply.

Playstyle:

This deck plays like every other Handlock Deck out there but the extra addition to this, is that the Eerie Statue along with Ancient Watcher are to counter aggro all those Face decks that haunt the ladder.

When facing aggro, even though you want to Taunt up soon, looking for your removals and surviving long enough while delaying with your Antique Healbot is also optimal and guarantees your victory most of times. The match-up is hard most of the times but like most decks with a good opener you won’t have a problem.

Against most Midrange decks try to aim for a darkbomb to remove any Darnassus Aspirants or Knife Jugglers early on and keep the board under control with your Wailing Soul while trying to keep a good board presence. Unless your opponent has high damage combos which may make your match-up hard you won’t have much of a difficulty.

Control Decks are easy to take care of because of your too many threats, as long as you don’t fall too behind, a solid turn 4 and 6 can somewhat easily guarantee a victory. Eerie Statue can bait out heavy removals early on, but keep an eye out for any potential Lightbomb or Brawl for it may sometimes have a heavy impact to the outcome of the game.

And lastly, against Control Priests it is highly reccomended Jaraxxus is played as early as possible for Priests usually struggle against the constant Inferno hero power spam, so it guarantees a victory.

Do you think Wailing Soul fits in this deck? I feel like you have a lot of cards that you don’t want to be silenced, e.g., Twilight Drake, Sludge Belcher, Emperor Thaurissan, etc. Maybe a second Ironbeak Owl and a Spellbreaker might be better? That at least gives you flexibility in what you want to silence.

Wailing Soul is what makes this deck a different from other Handlock deck and although the deck may not have much value, the AoE Silence gives you a huge tempo swing when the board is setup with Statues and Watchers. Even though you can’t pick what to silence doesn’t mean that it’s a 4 Mana 3/5, which definitely bigger than an owl and tougher to get rid of at that point in the game than a Spellbreaker while at the same time can challenge a minion like Piloted Shredder and remain on the board. I don’t think anyone is ever going to play Wailing Soul after playing Thaurissan or Twilight Drake ( Not in that order on the same turn at least. ) And even if Thaurissan gives you the discount and remains alive, I don’t see why someone wouldn’t play Dr. Boom, Ragnaros or even Wailing Soul to control the board further.

It’s a strong card that can very easily be played by itself, without ruining the board while keeping Tempo.
