This is a C’Thun modification of the Reno featured Warlock control type of deck I’ve used to play last season. It has lot of board clearers and end game powerful cards. C’Thun is there to finish the job after Alexstrasza, but he is not the only win condition. The deck requires some practice to make it work, but when you figure it out, I found it really fun to play, with lot of surprises for your opponent.

The game strategy is based on drawing cards with your hero power in the first few rounds, absorbing some in face damage while building situation for playing cards like Midnight Drake, Twilight Drake and Mountain Giant on turns 4 and 5. After that your opponent should be busy dealing with them while you play your C’Thun buff minions, using Brann Bronzebeard if possible. You maintain control of the board with cards such as Hellfire and Shadowflame, while using Sunfury Protector and Defender Of Argus to put as much as possible taunt minions on the board. Reno is there to save you when your opponent thinks he already won, but also smartly use Cult Apothecary to heal your hero (combined with Brann it can really make a difference). Ideally use your Siphon Soul and Big Game Hunter to take care of bigger threats before your big board clearer. The ideal late/end game play would be: Twisting Nether on turn 8, Alexstrasza on turn 9, followed by C’Thun on turn 10 and then Doomcaller on turn 11 if your C’Thun was killed immediately. Squeeze in between plays also Arch-Thief Rafaam and your opponent will have trouble controlling all possible dangers for him.

Some basic tips:

  • Keep Midnight Drake and/or Twilight Drake and Mountain Giant in mulligan unless you face aggressive Aggro deck. You want to use them by turn 4 and 5.
  • Using Brann – Depending on the type of opponent, you can play Brann before the Drake’s to pump their stats or together with C’Thun buff minions to maximize their effect. For example, Brann + Disciple of C’Thun on turn 6 is a powerful play. Also you can use Brann + Cult Apothecary in late game when there are many enemy minions on the board, for a “almost like Reno” effect.
  • Don’t be afraid to kill all your board minions if it means you can play your big ones on empty board the very next turn.
  • Power of Overwhelming + Shadowflame on that buffed creature is your best board clearer. Use it wisely.
  • Use Arch-Thief Rafaam to bait out some of your opponents stronger spells or big minion clearers.
