General Mulligans

You want to fight for board with this deck. Northshire Cleric, Wyrmrest Agent, and Tar Creeper is a great curve of over-stated minions. Shadow Visions is a situational keep, if you want to pull an early Potion of Madness for instance. I almost always mulligan any other spell since all other spells are 1-ofs and can be pulled by Shadow Visions.

This is a fun little deck I’ve been playing in Wild recently, wanted to share. Since Dragon Priest already runs a few 1-attack minions, I decided to build a deck around Hobgoblin to try it out. I have to say I’ve been really impressed, the deck fights for board well but also can win value matchups through extra Entombs via Shadow Visions and Drakonid OP.

The deck runs 1 of each tech spell and 2 Shadow Visions. A notable exclusion is Power Word: Shield but I removed it because it isn’t a good Shadow Visions pull and I wasn’t getting a lot of value out of it. A notable inclusion is Greater Healing Potion – it absolutely locks down games against aggro sometimes and can also be a win condition against burn decks and Alexstrasza.

For minions there are 2 themes: dragons and 1-attack minions, of which 3 pairs of minions fit into both. Three of the 1-attack minions (Wyrmrest Agent, Tar Creeper, and Midnight Drake) are all actually not 1-attack minions but they still will receive the buff from Hobgoblin. The deck does not run a lot of dragons at 8 total. Sometimes I’ll keep a 5 or 6 mana dragon during mulligan because of how few dragons there are and because all of the 2-drop minions are dragon synergy cards.

Hobgoblin itself is an interesting card. I will play it by itself occasionally, usually against decks that are trying to do their own strategy and don’t want to waste tempo on removing your minions, decks like quest Rogue. The vast majority of the time you want to keep it until you can combo it of course. The bread and butter of Hobgoblin is when it is combined with either of the taunts or Fire Fly on turns 5/6. Comboing it with Midnight Drake can produce a devastating 9/6 minion which basically has soft taunt and might force your opponent to leave up Hobgoblin for the next turn.
