Wailing Caverns Hearthstone Mini-Set Guide – Cards, Release Date, Price, How To Get It

Wailing Caverns is the second mini-set in Hearthstone. It will feature 35 new cards supplementing Forged in the Barrens expansion, which was released around 2 months ago. Here’s everything what we know about it so far, including release date, how to get it (and for how much), as well as a full list of cards that were revealed over the last few days.

Release Date

While not much is known about the new mini-set yet, one thing is sure – it will launch next week, on Thursday (June 3, 2021). The date is in line with most of the predictions, given that’s exactly the same amount of time between expansion launch and mini-set as it was last time (Darkmoon Faire & Darkmoon Races).

Because Blizzard wants to make sure that bigger updates like that land simultaneously around the world, there’s a high chance that we’ll see a patch day early so people can already download it and it goes through the verification process on Android / iOS smoothly. However, that part is just speculation.

How To Get It & Price

After the mini-set launches on June 3, players will have three ways of obtaining it.

The first one is through Forged in the Barrens card packs. All new cards will be added to the pool, so when opening packs from the latest expansion, you will have a chance to get one of the new ones. While it might seem very random, keep in mind that there’s a duplicate protection across all rarities – so if you already opened a bunch of packs from the set, the chances are that you will find new Commons & Rares very quickly. Higher rarities are an issue, though – not only they have a significantly lower chance to appear in packs, but you might not have all of the Forged in the Barrens ones already (so even if you open an Epic / Legendary, it might be an “old” one). That’s why if you want to get a full set, we would recommend using one of the other two methods.

The second one is buying a whole set with Gold. Players will be able to spend 2000 Gold to get the entire Wailing Caverns mini-set at once. This is the easiest method for F2P players, because the alternative use for 2k gold is 20 packs, and it would take much more than 20 packs to get all the new cards. You don’t have to rely on luck or anything – you’ll simply get all the cards (one copy of each Legendary + 2 copies of each non-Legendary).

The third one is real money purchase. The entire set is priced at $14.99, or a similar amount in your local currency, of course. It’s not a bad deal, in terms of pricing it’s comparable to solid bundle deals you see every now and then. Just like in case of the last method, after you pay, you just get the whole mini-set.

In the case of the second and third options, if you already own some of the cards (e.g. you opened a couple of packs), you will simply get duplicates of the cards you already had (you can disenchant them).

Overall, buying the entire mini-set with Gold or real money is a pretty good deal. Of course, ultimately whether it’s worth it or not will depend on the quality of the cards. Luckily, you don’t have to pull the trigger right away – the second and third options should be available for quite some time after launch too.

These kind of updates usually drop around 10am, right?

Is it just me or does this mini set seem like garbage? There are like 5 good cards and not even meta changing. I really can’t decide if I should buy it or not.

Might wait and see whether the mini-set revives the current meta corpse. Honestly never seen HS this boring. Combos are extremely unsatisfying to die against (Tickatus worst card ever?) and non-combo decks are the exact same Paladin build with MAYBE one card variance. Whew – Barrens is a deep low point.

Feels like Stealer of Souls will be broken in wild, so going to play that one first of course.

I like the beast, will make hunter hero better.

One comment on the cards from mini-set – underwhelming. 🙁

This looks like a pretty lacklustre mini set, still expansion isn’t too far away

I can not see in any way the new mini set how it can limit the ultra strong and disgusting “Paladin”. This Blizzard team is hilarious

Maybe that’s why there’s also 2 Paladin nerfs coming with the set

      • Lanakias
        June 3, 2021 at 9:38 am

And how exactly these cute nerfs can stop Uther domination?

By hitting two of the best cards currently played in most Paladin decks. I imagine that should help noticeably.

Yeah this is the result of a culture of laziness complacency and uninspiration at Blizzard

So each class get a rare and a common, and the remaining are neutrals? That’s how it works? Is there an idea of what classes the other 2 legendaries are going to be? Is the epic going to be a neutral?

    • H0lysatan
      June 1, 2021 at 2:01 pm

Since druid got 3 cards, it safe to assume each class gonna get 3 cards too. (3*10class + 5 neutrals).

1 epic cards also likely to be neutral just like Darkmoon Races.
The 2 legendaries left are for Warrior and Neutral again, based from the official site.

Paladin must have the weakest cards in this mini set and all the other classes to have very good cards to dethrone Paladin but again there are a lot of Pala deck variations for him to adapt to any meta ,maybe the most versatile class ever in HS.

    June 1, 2021 at 10:50 am

So far, so… bad. Even though it’s early to tell, I don’t see any cards/tools to disrupt Uther’s ladder domination.

    • H0lysatan
      June 1, 2021 at 10:57 am

      Beast Druid support?
Big cost minion for Ramp Druid?
      Freeze Mage support?
      More Hand Disruption?
      Leaked Token Paladin?

I have to agree. It has a very slim chance for the rest of the cards to overturned the board.

Another tech card to disrupt opponent’s hand. What are they thinking?

    • Ginnel
      June 1, 2021 at 10:42 am

They are supplying a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist yet, maybe they can see a good otk/combo deck in the next expansion.

      • H0lysatan
        June 1, 2021 at 10:50 am

As long as they don’t overdo it. I’m gonna have a nightmare if for some reason they enable a deck that can make opponent’s just sit there doing nothing.
For example, just imagine Mutanus + Shadowstep and SDD twice.
        Probably get crazier in Wild.

I guess we’ll have a better look when all the cards revealed.

          June 1, 2021 at 3:00 pm

Yeah way too many break your opponent’s hand cards, it’s like they can’t grasp any real idea for card design. Barrens is a joke.

    • Acanca
      June 1, 2021 at 11:36 am

Ehh, maybe its for wild. Every other deck is a combo deck here lol.

They really need to bump up power level these cards are worthless i think the priest dungeoneer is the only revealed card to see play (including leaks).

    • DD
      May 31, 2021 at 1:57 am

Actually the DR 3 drop is amazing for DH and i think the 2/2 spam cud be a good one-of in druid.

    • Irish Seadog
      May 31, 2021 at 3:04 am

Seriously? You think the Priest one will see play? I can see the Shaman one being the strongest revealed so far since it’s a more consistent Arcane Intellect on a stick, with an easy-to-meet deckbuilding constraint, in a class desperate for card draw. Not sure about the rest though (although I can’t remember most of the leaked ones).

        May 31, 2021 at 12:16 pm

Only like 1/ 4 shaman spells r nature so inconsistent

        • Noelle
          May 31, 2021 at 1:13 pm

You can very easily run only nature spells in Shaman. 16/26 spells are Nature, including Lightning Bolt, Lightning Bloom, Landslide, Rockbiter Weapon, Serpentshrine Portal, Storm Strike, Dunk Tank, and more.
Worst case scenario it’s a 3 mana 2/3 that draws you a card, which is something Shaman is sorely missing, but if you run Nature spells and elementals you get another free draw.

          • DD
            June 1, 2021 at 1:15 am

U seeing any shaman on ladder bro?

            • DD
              June 1, 2021 at 1:17 am

U know why? Coz those nature spells suck with the exception of the 3 drops

              • Irish Seadog
                June 1, 2021 at 2:35 am

Eh, they’re not that bad, and while Shaman isn’t great overall at the moment of course, from looking at HSReplay to see what people are trying to make work, it seems nature spells are mainly what is actually played. The reasons given for Shaman not being relevant don’t tend to focus on spell quality so much as lack of relevant 1-drops and lack of card draw, so since this card would go miles towards fixing one of those problems, I can easily see elemental shamans running almost exclusively nature spells, like they do already, to take advantage of the significant payoff offered here (possibly still with one or two copies of devolving missiles, but we’ll soon see).

        June 1, 2021 at 10:34 am

Yeah the priest one won’t see play. Priest runs a lot of shadow spells and not to mention that priest spell usually already cost 0 and you often float mana

    • Kapslocke
      May 31, 2021 at 6:12 am

What? The priest one is the worst.

      • DD
        May 31, 2021 at 12:17 pm

1 mana 2/3 kid wait and see

        • Irish Seadog
          May 31, 2021 at 5:07 pm

Looking at current Priest decks, they tend to run mainly shadow spells with only a sprinkling of holy, so I’ll believe it when I see it.

      • Noelle
        May 31, 2021 at 1:29 pm

I’d say the mage one might be the worst, since Mage isn’t in any way lacking card draw, they don’t want to run minions, and the very few Frost spells they have aren’t that great so the 1/1s will likely never get summoned.

That being said, I think I’ll try using one in my Reno Mage deck to draw LPG more consistently.

  14. H0lysatan
    May 28, 2021 at 1:21 pm

14x rares, and 16x commons (which then doubled). I’m sure even with 20 packs, there’s a chance you won’t even get all rare cards (28). So, buying them with golds is the best choice.

Also, Mutanus can corrupt Tickatus. Probably auto included in warlock, while also contributing in halting some combo deck like OTK demon hunter.
Shaman finally getting draw, now we just have to see if that can makes a difference, since one card draw is still less than what other class have.

A few leaked cards in Reddit are
Lady Annacondra, your Nature spells cost 2 less
Druid minion, 8 cost, 4/9. Every nature spells cast summons 4/2 rush
Druid spells, 7 cost, summon 5 2/2 body with random effects.
and 1 neutral. 3 cost, 3/2 deathrattle: summon 2/2 body with random effects.

      May 28, 2021 at 1:50 pm

Whoops, Paladin spells. Not Druid. I blame the colors.

Lady Annacondra, your Nature spells cost 2 less. Can be fun since with two Germination (or
Solar Eclipse and Germination) all your nature spells up too 6 mana can be free, and is not that hard to pull off. Then you can do a bunch of mana and draw after that and pull your entire deck, and then pull some type of combo. Can also work after celestial alignment then all nature spells will be free.

I did not think about Mutanus corrupting cards… That makes it even more fun.

Love Mutanus the Devourer, and he can be double battlecried, his battlecry can be replayed in shaman and you can get duplicates of him in deck and hand since he is mildly cheap. He must see play in wild. Ah and in shaman you can make him cost 1 mana, so that is nice.

Four useless cards. I can’t wait to see how bad the rest is. KEKW

      May 28, 2021 at 11:06 am

Honestly, I disagree. Dungeoneers actually look decent, especially Shaman one stands out. Since it’s the class that struggles with card draw, having a 3 mana 2/3 that will often draw you 2 cards is a big deal. And Mutanus can be a nice tech card in certain metas.

But of course, we’ll see how it all works out.

    • Pandamonium
      June 1, 2021 at 3:05 pm

Every deck is just going to run Silas Vol’jin and Mutanus because there’s no reason to try to be proactive. These cards are tremendously LAZILY thought out from a bunch of people who are probably sitting at home still, so the cards are going to be bad without the designers collaborating in person.
