Mulligans

General Mulligans

Your smaller C'Thun-buffing minions are great tools for early removal, particularly Disciple of C'Thun. Only keep Tomb Pillager if you have the Coin.

Control Mulligans

Only keep Sprint or Assassinate if you drew them along with Preparation.

Buffs to C'Thun persist even after he is returned to your hand!!! This deck aims to take advantage of this by controlling the board, drawing furiously, and finishing with:

Emperor Thaurissan can set up this combo a turn earlier. And just in case someone survives three C’Thun battlecries, a second Shadowstep is there for good measure (^_^).

How To Play

Focus on maintaining board control throughout the game, and don’t be afraid to trade away your minions. Never worry about going face, since multiple battlecries from C’Thun will KO full health opponents with little effort. Draw cards religiously, draw C’Thun before your opponent draws theirs, and multiple C’Thun battlecries for the win!

Deck Breakdown

  • Backstab: Early game damage/removal.
  • Preparation: Your main tool for using Sprint before turn 7, or for activating Blade Flurry in a pinch. In desperate situations, consider using this for a cheap Assassinate or free Fan of Knives .
  • Shadowstep : The core of this deck. Save this for comboing with C'Thun unless absolutely necessary.
  • Deadly Poison : A flexible removal tool for the early- and mid-game. Consider keeping one in hand for use with Blade Flurry when playing against an opponent swarming the board (e.g. Zoo, Murloc Paladin, Aggro Shaman).
  • Shiv : I run one Shiv over a second Backstab for its card draw. Helps you get to C’Thun!
  • Beckoner of Evil : Food for C’Thun, and good for early-game trades.
  • Bloodmage Thalnos : Play this to get some extra mileage out of Shiv, BackstabFan of Knives, and Blade Flurry. If you don’t have Thalnos, replace with Kobold Geomancer or Evolved Kobold.
  • Fan of Knives : Chip damage + card draw. Pair it with Bloodmage Thalnos and Azure Drake when possible.
  • Brann Bronzebeard: Most satisfying when played on the same turn as C’Thun. Also works situationally with Twin Emperor Vek'lor for extra protection.
  • Disciple of C'Thun: Best used in spots normally reserved for SI:7 Agent, and a better fit here since it buffs C’Thun and doesn’t need to combo. Save it for when you need its battlecry to snipe an opposing minion for 2 damage.
  • Twilight Elder: A 3-drop best played on curve and picking off opposing minions in the early game.
  • Blade Flurry: Your best board clearing option. Pair with with Deadly Poison when possible.
  • Tomb Pillager: Excellent mid-game drops, and the coins that they leave behind can enable critical swings in the game, like an early Blade of C'Thun or the Brann Bronzebeard + Shadowstepped C'Thun combo. Trade away your Tomb Pillager if a coin can enable a sick play this turn.
  • Assassinate: Your second-best single-minion removal tool. Helps keep the board clear in the midgame.
  • Azure Drake: A solid 5-drop chosen for its card draw and spell damage.
  • Crazed Worshipper: Good mid-game taunt for keeping opposing minions away from your face.
  • Emperor Thaurissan: Enabler of amazing combos, and able to achieve absurd plays if Tomb Pillager dropped a few coins in your hand as well. Most effective when played after a Sprint, though feel free to drop the Emperor in at any time.
  • Sprint: Your primary mid-game card drawing engine. Best used in conjunction with Preparation, and followed by Emperor Thaurissan. Be careful not to leave yourself with 10 cards in hand since burning your C’Thun will most likely lose you the match.
  • Twin Emperor Vek'lor: Great mid-game taunt if you’ve been buffing your C’Thun, though can be played with a weaker C’Thun if you are truly in a pinch. If you don’t have this yet, swap out for an efficient mid-game taunt, like Sunwalker.
  • Blade of C'Thun: One of the most important cards in this deck, as it can buff your C’Thun to extremely high levels and can kill anything—even minions that can’t be targeted by spells. If you have the luxury, save this for an opposing minion with high attack. Against other C’Thun decks, keep this around to kill off an opposing C’Thun (if you survive).
  • C'Thun: The main event. This deck is designed to win on C’Thun battlecries alone. Strongly recommended that you don’t not play C’Thun unless you have a Shadowstep in hand.
