General Mulligans
Barnes/Shadowstep and Preparation are essential for your best case scenario.
Shiv and mimic pod keep your draw tempo up and Vanish can be a game changer. Especially if you are gearing for a win on turn 8, you can play vanish on turns 6 and 7 to your opponents frustration.
Hallucination can equipt you with additional cards to maintain control or drop minions to absorb your opponents spells/attacks.
This is an expert level deck for the Rogue class built on a budget.
The basic premise is to keep control over the board while stockpiling the cards you need to blast your opponent in a single unforeseen event. Not only that, but few classes have the cards to stop your attack (Mage: counterspell/polymorph potion).
Your best case scenario is to have Barnes, Shadowstep, Preparation, and two 1 cost damage spells and any other < 3 cost damage spell (which hits heros) in your hand by turn 8. You then double drop Barnes and the rest is history (+10 to each of your spells). You come out with a fantastical win that your opponent had no idea was coming at ’em. In fact since you don’t play any minions till you are ready to win, your opponent may underestimate you.
However, the expert play comes in when adapting to the position of Malygos in your deck and variable draws. For example, if you have some of the above mentioned cards in your hand, but not enough for a win, it may be worthwhile to drop Barnes before a full win condition (especially if you need a board clear using fan of knives) and then pocket your Malygos again with shadow step; reducing the cost of Malygos to only 7 crystals. This way you can belt out up to 4 spells on turn 10 (That’s 20 extra damage from Malygos). As long as you keep your opponent’s health in the low 20s you win easy
The hardest scenario is drawing Malygos before Barnes; however if you pick up Shadowstep you can still win by dropping Malygos on turn 9 and then pocketing him again. Bonus if you have preparation and fan of knives to clear your opponents board in the process. Backstab can also be nice to have in such an event.
Other tidbits:
Draw cards will keep you stocked with removal spells especially mimic pod. Thistle tea requires too much mana and was remove from this deck archetype. Don’t be afraid to remove your opponents with shiv/shurikan/eviscerate as your one cost spells will be your winners. Release your razorpetal volley one turn before you need it to account for skulking geist.
Nontheless, temoval is not always your best option as you may want to chain sap with your vanishes to overstock your opponents hand and cause them to risk losing their win condition cards.
Blade flurry doesn’t come into play often, but has great clearing effect as it can hit up to 10 dmg to all enemies: 5 attack on weapon and a Malygos on the board.
P.S.
I tried similar combos of Barnes/Malygos with each of the classes; however, Rogue turned out to be the best at managing the board long enough to win. Even Priest couldn’t keep up like this due to lack of dmg spells.
