Mulligans
Aggro Mulligans
Versus aggro decks, it is important to build an early board, so protector is solid. It is 1x less card available for you to pull with call to arms, but its more important to have earlier than turn 4. Muster helps clean up their minions & adds tradeable recruits as well. Belcher is another card i usually will hold on to. invaluable to drop him the turn after you cast call.
Midrange Mulligans
Rallying blade (and if possible 1x copy of protector or minibot) is a great starting position vs most midrange decks.
Special note on Loatheb - If you are playing vs tempo mage deck, Loatheb is a tremendous card to steal tempo back or pretty much nullify your opponent's next turn. Mage is obviously a very spell dependent class, so playing Loatheb forces them to play minions on their next turn, which Loatheb can then eat or trade with (in the case of Crystal Runner).
Combo Mulligans
Combo decks are similar to control decks, in that they usually build up a massive grip in the early stages of the game. This, once again, makes divine favor very valuable earlier in these games. Spellbreaker is solid vs combo priest decks that look to OTK you, by stripping away their lead up turns to going off.
Special note on Loatheb - Loatheb is another great card vs combo decks, as they usually tend to use spells as part of their combos & Loatheb can stymie turns where your opp really needs to build up their combo plays or tries to go off. But, playing Loatheb on the correct turn is the most tricky part vs combo decks. You will need to know how the combo decks your opponent's are playing work, and when they may try to go off.
Control Mulligans
Control decks usually stack their hand, so divine favor is useful earlier in these games. As mentioned previously, i will tend to hold on to 1x MC as well, as he is usually a solid tempo swing, especially when the control player isn't doing much to the board in the early/mid game.
Special note on spellbreaker - I always always always keep him when i against Warlock. I have an extremely high win rate vs controlock, because their entire game plan is to drop a minion in that either pulls one of their big demons from their hand or deck in to play. I can't tell you how many times my opponent played one of these minions and passes the turn, only to then have that minion get silenced in to a vanilla 2/2 or 3/4 minion.
Went 12-1 in Wild Tavern Brawlselium with this deck. Decided to see if I could climb the wild ranked ladder from rank 25 all the way to legend & how fast I could do it in. Succeeded in attaining legend with a 80% win rate (97 wins v 24 losses). Was on pace with a 90% win rate for a bit, but took some losses around ranks 7 to 5. Did this climb in 5 days (Tue 3/26 – Sat 3/30). Had previously used secret pally to hit legend twice, back when it was in standard, and the deck is still pretty oppressive. Hardest matchups were Big Priest, Jade Druid & Exodia Mage. Streamed the majority of my climb on my twitch channel ( twitch.tv/madchiild_ ). Follow my channel & set up notifications if you want to watch me play this deck (and some other wild/standard decks) this coming season & I’ll stream my pack opening & play when Witchwood goes live.
