Waterboy Card Review

Hero Powers cost 2 mana. This card costs 2 mana and makes your Hero Power free. Which basically means that it’s a 0 mana 2/1 on the turn you would want to use your Hero Power. If it was an unconditional 0 mana 2/1, I would call it really powerful (Aggro decks would seriously consider running it), but as it is right now, it’s not as good.

The card works a bit like Kobold Librarian – it’s basically a Warlock’s Hero Power slapped on a 2/1. But not only that 2/1 costs 1 mana instead of 2, but you can use BOTH it and your Hero Power – in this case you can’t. So even Warlock, which has arguably the strongest and most commonly used basic Hero Power, probably wouldn’t want to run it – Kobold Librarian is just in a completely different league. It only works for your NEXT Hero Power, so Shadowreaper Anduin shenanigans aren’t an option either.

I think that this card has too low of an impact to see play. In the late game, you DEFINITELY don’t want to trade a card for a free 2/1 minion that will just die to some random trade, AoE, Hero Power etc. And in the early game, you don’t really want to be using your Hero Power – you’d rather play some good standalone 2-drops most of the time. It’s comparable to a standalone 2-drop on Turn 2 (a lot of the 2-drop are even better), and later in the game you’d rather have something else than a free Hero Power, especially if you don’t starve for mana anymore.

It would be another story if Hero Cards had more expensive Hero Powers – e.g. something like 4-6 mana Hero Power. Then you could absolutely justify playing it for a small early game tempo boost, as well as the late game synergy with those. But it’s not the case.

Card rating: 2/10

For hunter this is basically a pre-nerf leper gnome, but with a battlecry instead of deathrattle.

Reduce the cost to 1 and it will be worth a consideration at least.

This could possibly find a slot in some kind of Face Hunter … just not Odd Face Hunter – but as that’s pretty much the defacto Face Hunter at the moment, this seems pretty useless.

I’m pretty sure there is a “refreshing” meme behind this card, and it’s mostly there for the lore aspect of the expansion.
That, or this could be thing when they release a cheap – searchable DK with a hero power that costs more than 2

I really do not understand why this card is rated so low. This card is a must for all even Genn decks.

Well in even warlock this is a 2 cost kobold librarian and in even shaman/paladin this is a murloc tide hunter. So sorry dude but people are going to pay 2 mana for a one cost hero power.

I understand why Waterboy exists, and if there is a deck that would play it, let’s say the Mage theme for this expansion works out and ends up being really aggressive, it wouldn’t really want to play it.

In essence, this makes your hero power for a turn also summon a 2/1, which isn’t that great. Maybe it’ll end up being the least bad two drop in the bad arena card pools since it does add some value to your hero power.

You need to care strongly about Hero Powering every turn, while also developing a board (Otherwise.. why not just Hero Power and not have to spend a card). What deck cares that much? Other than Odd decks that can’t run this anyway. And Zoolock, which already has this card for 1 Mana cheaper.

Unless 3+ cost Hero Powers get revealed, in practice this card is like a 2/1 Wisp you can’t drop T1. Nah.

How is reducing the cost of the hero power in OTK pally a level up?… Its cost has never been the issue. In fact this might make it worse because it takes up board space.
