Dreampetal Florist Card Review

So. This is a card that can reduce the cost of Malygos from 9 to 2. And I still think that it might not be necessary, because Druids already have a way to get it out on the board, as well as they might not have enough space to put this card in. Hard to say at this point, but the deck is just getting more and more consistent. If anything, this will add redundancy – you COULD play it instead of Twig of the World Tree, but you can also play both.

7 mana cost on this is also very interesting. Thanks to that, it fills the 7 mana slot in Juicy Psychmelon. I previously didn’t think that the card will see play in Malygos Druid (because you would pull out like 2 cards at best), but with this one it actually might. Drawing both this and Malygos can potentially make the combo much quicker. The worst thing ever when playing the deck was having Twig near the bottom of your deck. The problem was that you didn’t only have to draw it, but also

The problem is that Malygos isn’t the only minion you play for the combo. Faceless Manipulator is a thing, and you will also play Flobbidinous Floop most likely. What if it hits one of those? Well, to be honest, nothing. If one of those takes the discount instead of Maly, you just drop Maly one turn, then play Floop + Faceless next, then Swipe + 2x Moonfire with +10 Spell Damage for 36 damage in total. All covered.

You COULD also combo it with Drakkari Enchanter on Turn 10 for double discount. But that seems unnecessary. One discount on anything is enough to combo down most of your opponents and adding unnecessary, clunky cards isn’t going to help overall. Theoretically, since this is an end of turn effect, it can trigger more than once, but that’s a wishful thinking. Emperor Thaurissan came down a turn earlier, was a 5/5 and it nearly never survived after the initial turn. This will share a similar fate.

So yeah, it is good in combo decks. It adds redundancy, and redundancy adds consistency. I don’t believe that it would see play outside of those – if you don’t hit a combo piece, this is a bit like playing a 0 mana 4/4 in the long run – you pay 7 mana now, then you get 7 mana discount later. But you might be able to do some tempo pushes, like discounting The Lich King and immediately dropping a Faceless Manipulator on it. Still, seems unnecessary. So I’m quite sure that this kind of powerful discount will see play in combo decks, if not now then in the future. Not sure if that was the devs intent, but this really starts looking like a Malygos expansion. Maybe they want people to have some fun with it before it rotates out to Hall of Fame? Who knows?

Card rating: 9/10

    Text says random minion.
Play It on turn 7. No matter if you’re holding Maly or Faceless, you’ll get 7-5 mana discount.
Unless you’re holding another minion in your hand, this card will never fail.
    2 mana Maly + Faceless + Taldaram
    Twig
Hero Power (for BM) + 2 Swipe + 2 Moonfire.
71-73 damage (depending on if you played DK Hero Power or not).
If you hit Malygos you don’t even need Twig to do 32 dmg.

Welcome to Hearthstone, do you like uninteractive games where both sides just try to achieve a one turn kill?
Well we’ve got you covered, watch us print terrible cards that ruin most of the fun for most decks! But who cares!? Everyone’s netdecking anyway so they just beat each other and poor newcomers who have no idea what’s happening ;D
OTKs are boring, they make the loser always feel like nothing they did mattered when they die.
The same goes for aggro, dying before you could play any cards is not fun either.
Just let me play my game and let me at LEAST THINK my choices matter.
Don’t just kill me instantly or before turn 6.
I don’t think that there ever existed a otk that was really healthy for the game.

Sadly, this is BLIZZARD. They took the gold mine known as Warcraft 3 (One of the most influential RTS games of that GENERATION), turned it into the now dying WoW and refuse to make a sequal. They have cool ideas, not good mechanics or game sense. Rogue has been dying for a class identity outside of Tempo/Miracle since the game LAUNCHED and has yet to get any love in that regard. Paladin, Druid and Mage, on the other hand, have had more than 10 different big deck archetypes in just the past two years IN EACH CLASS.

Don’t delude yourself. Hearthstone is a fun game, but it is a joke when looking at it from a balance perspective. They refuse to buff cards that see no play and they only nerf a card after it rampages through the playerbase, AND only after a 2-5 month waiting period. If Hearthstone didn’t have the colorful and impressive visuals it has, this game would have died on launch.

way too much overreaction Florist is 1/5
The best comparison is emperor thaurissan
Cost: Emperor cost 6 Florist cost 7.
Stats: Emperor is 5/5 Florist is a 4/4.
Effect: Emperor guarantees cost reduction on all your combo pieces and reduces a total of 0-9 mana Florist randomly reduces one card in your hand by a total of 0-7 mana.
Granted Emperor was never bad but Florist is so much worse that it will never see competitive play. combo decks generally have a large number of cards in hand in which case Florist has a low chance of hitting malygos and in any other druid deck Florist generally does not pay its mana back because if you hit any card that cost less than 7 it only reduces it to 0.

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      July 30, 2018 at 10:26 pm

While I agree that Emperor is better, come on, it was one of the most busted cards in the history of HS. Comparing stuff to it is like saying that “well, this 1-drop is not as good as pre-nerf Undertaker” – duh, of course it’s not.

Another thing is saying that Emperor reduced mana cost of combo pieces by 0-9 mana and this by 0-7 mana is also made to push your argument. In case of Emperor, you were never holding 9 combo pieces (no combo deck used that much), realistically it usually reduced the mana of your COMBO PIECES by 2-4 (as well as other cards, which weren’t combo pieces). In case of this one, you basically drop it only when you have your expensive combo piece, such as Malygos or Togwaggle in your hand, so it should always reduce it by 7, getting you more mana reduction in total. Combo decks have a high amount of cards in hand, but not MINIONS – Maly or Mill Druid play pretty much no minions, which makes it really easy to isolate the card you need in your hand.

Yes, it’s no Emperor. Emperor was a generally strong card, this is strong only in the specific decks and specific circumstances.

I understand that you might not think that it will be a good card (still rating it 1/5 is an overreaction in another way), but sorry, your arguments just seem super flawed.

It’s worse than one of the best cards in history (some would even argue that, I assume), INSTANT 1/5!!!
Terrible card, make it reduce the cost of all cards in your hand by 7 and MAYBE it might see play.
Thank you very much, we need druid to be better, has been struggling for so looooooong.
Never even close to top tier anywhere.
        Never.

I think that this card will be one of the most played in 3 years(if malygos doesn’t go in the Hall of Fame). It’s OP… how many minions would u play in maly druid? We have to talk on the combo with the other druid’s cards ,as the spell cost 4(IDK the name ) that allows u to draw a cost 7-8-9-10 from your deck.
Think about … Cost -7 DREAMPETAL FLORIST , cost-9 MALYGOS
It’s over , u can play a 2-cost maly in a turn and make the combo

    • Ertje
      July 31, 2018 at 8:04 am

I also think it’s not as good as people think, you need more requirements than most other cards, you need to have this card and all important combo pieces in your hand, you probably only get one trigger from it. since it’s most likely to die on the opponents turn.
Basically, by the time you play this card, you either are already dead, or you could have played the combo already.

      • Malfurion
        July 31, 2018 at 6:33 pm

Yeah this seems preeeety bad. Maly Druid already has no trouble with the combo so adding this as an extra piece or even potentially another minion you could hit INSTEAD of Maly with this card seems overly convoluted. Why not just do the current combo with twig?

  5. TheTallRonan
    July 30, 2018 at 6:28 pm

    But why?

Seriously though, why? Why are they trying to turn Druid into an uninteractive combo class? Why are they pushing it so hard? Does anyone want this? Do they think it’s a good idea? Is this just what happens when you take Ben Brode off the design team?

This isn’t like they accidentally printed one OP card, this is them actively trying to break their own game. I’m so confused…

The current strongest class in the game, druid, gets the strongest cards in this expansion while priest, the weakest class in the game gets shat upon. i know they start to make expansions like 8 months ahead of release but how hard could it be to tweak cards before release after seeing how the meta has shaped. perhaps i’m asking for too much but something has to change because right now this doesn’t seem fair.

  14. MockRock
    July 30, 2018 at 7:30 am

I…don’t get it. I really don’t. This and Floop make it just stupidly easy to play multiple Malygos copies, they’ve got the best draw in the game by a colossal margin, the can out-armour WARRIOR, the armour class…what’s going on? And more importantly, why on earth do they think anyone’s going to play Treants?

  15. TheThreather
    July 30, 2018 at 7:22 am

Hopefully they will add even more armor gain in this expansion…. Or even move Malygos to Wild.

Else OTKs will be rampant and nothing is more boring than meta where people just draw combo pieces.

Shudderwock is obviously consern too but at least grumble will rotate out in april or so.

Druid needs cards from mana 5-10 with 5+ attack. Druid keeps getting all these setup cards, This card, the 8 mana card summons, the 4 mana card draw a 7 8 9 10, but theres nothing to setup (only neutral cards). LETS HAVE EVERYONE PLAY MORE LICHKING. Cards are good but the setups are for Neutral cards only. Give druid a good class minion that can actually attempt to stick on the board something we havent seen in like 3 years Druid of the claw LUL Ancient of Lore and War LUL

  17. 1194Ching
    July 30, 2018 at 7:18 am

With proper deck building, this card is nuts! The one thing that sold it is its specific mechanic – discounting minions. Though due to its high mana, the only downside is you would have to have a lot of high mana cards in your decks to make it work, making you draw them more often during the mulligan phase.

I think, and predict, this card would see play, but not as much as people expect it to. Flobbidinous Floop is already enough to push the latter archetype to the top.

Seeing so many Combo Druid pieces in the set is really rather annoying, I’ve never had a whole lot of playing against combo decks no matter the archetype I play.
Playing an aggressive deck in the match-up can either be a complete landslide in your favor or the game will be practically stolen from you when you’re only a few health away from winning
Playing an control deck can pretty much be a auto-loss that takes thirty minutes in too many cases.
Playing in the mirror match probably take an hour and consist of “Who can draw their win condition first?”

I am unsure if there has ever been a Combo metagame, but it looks like we’ll be rather close with the cards Druid has been getting.

I am glad Team 5 is really pushing the designs of cards to see just what can be made, but the combination of cards being given, not to create a combo capable deck within the Druid, but to strengthen an already strong deck. When this Malygos Druid deck becomes too much, something will need to change about the control line-up Druid has.

      • Soup And Salad
        July 30, 2018 at 6:34 am

Not really. It’s tier 1 vs tier 2. In fact, Deathrattle Hunter has a favorable match-up against Druid generally and Spell Hunter would be a lot stronger if their amazing turn five, six, and seven plays were capable of doing a whole lot against Spreading Plague.

This is the first card that I’ve TRUELY thought “wow, this is actually truely OP”. You can argue that a 4/4 on 7 is a bad tempo play, but if done right, aka discounted the likes of Lich King, Oakheart, Maly, Ysera what ever where they can play a 7 or 6/drop and that’s only thinking about turn 7, is insane and will bring you back more so. If we consider this in my end turn Spiteful Drakkari deck, it’s basically just disgusting. Turn 10 play this card and Drakkari for Lich King/Ysera ect.

    It’s crazy strong.

    • Thrombin

      • Piterno
        July 30, 2018 at 7:57 am

The scary thing is that’s right, you can play juicy psychmelon to draw this, the lich king, and malygos, play the lich king on mana 8, and then if you have drakkari enchanter you can play that on mana 10 with this to reduce malygos to 0, and look at that, swipe swipe moonfire moonfire is now a 30 damage combo

  36. Corkinator
    July 30, 2018 at 2:25 am

Dont be freakin out over this card.

Yes its a good effect, the best use of this card in my opinion is in a maly deck.

Get two procs from this and you have a 0 mana Maly, or it can hit Floop and you have another 0 mana Maly

But its nothing to worry about, this is why aggro decks exist.

If you try and jam two of these and floop into a maly deck you are dead by turn 5, and you will probably have to burn a swipe to stay alive which means less otk potential.

Cant run Oaken summons in a floop deck or you are screwed. and these are a dead card in an aggro matchup.

Every decent card for druid this set are late game bombs. Im excluding the treant cards in this because i dont think its a top tier competitive deck.

Blizzard knows what they are doing, dont panic.

    • GlosuuLang
      July 30, 2018 at 4:02 am

Yes, Blizzard knew what they were doing when they printed Patches. Or SRA with Raza. Or Shudderwock. You are right that Aggro decks will prevent Maly Druid from having 80% WR (but Maly Druid can still win many of those Aggro matchups if he draws a decent early game). But that’s not the point. The point is that combo decks like Shudderwock are obnoxious because they are auto-win vs pure Control archetypes. Right now Control decks have a fighting chance vs Maly Druid thanks to weapon removal, but with these new cards Maly Druid will 100% consistently beat these Control decks. So the meta will be Shudderwock, Maly Druid and Aggro decks to keep the broken combo decks in check. Control will not be viable, and that’s a bad meta.

    • Baromeu
      July 30, 2018 at 4:16 am

If you’re playing agains aggro you won’t mind recruiting a 3/4 + 6 armor, it’s still a good tempo play (as is everything druid does).

    • Grant Thomas Miller
      July 30, 2018 at 8:48 am

Except that Druid is the best anti aggro class in the game. The reason why aggro can win out against heavy Druids is not due to the weakness of the class, but because many decklist cut the anti aggro for (taunt) synergy. Now there is little incentive to run witching hour decks when the payoff of these otk cards just wins the game on the spot. Someone mentioned dollmaster with the new psychemellon. That is stupidly powerful synergy that blows taunt druid out of the water. Blizzard is making cards they think are fun and easy to understand. Not that have comprehensive balance.

Ramp to ten mana, Dollmaster Dorion and that juicy melon thing, get a 1/1 of THIS to reduce one of the one’s you just drew (not to mention copies of probably Lich, Malygos and whatever 10 drop)

This plus drakkari enchanter is just so broken. 100% get nerfed. To me, the thing that makes this so overpowered is that it is not a legendary. You can reduce 2 cards. So good.

can also hit the same minion twice.
      50% chance of that working

    Mecha-C’Thun now viable?

      How would that help Mecha-C’Thun?

      July 30, 2018 at 2:44 am

Mecha c’thun is not so bad in a druid deck in my opinion. All you have to do is focus on surviving and using all the cards, except mecha c’thun, innervate and naturalize. Surely, most likely won’t be competitive but doesn’t look like garbage either, druid can easily use all the cards he has.

Well, if Druid gets to use all his cards, he could win in a much easier fashion.

Nice I didn’t know what 7-mana card to draw with the 7,8,9, 10 drawer. This is insane.

SORRY, WHAT??? EVEN IF THIS GOES OFF JUST ONCE, IT’S A FREE 4/4 THAT SETS UP COMBOS.
THIS IS RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. GROSSLY OVERPOWERED.

Just have to point out that you’re paying 7 mana for a 4/4 minion. Which is absolutely a horrible tempo play…

Don’t get me wrong, the card is powerful. But it’s slow and I don’t know that this is good enough.

    • Hazarthades2520
      July 30, 2018 at 2:16 am

People say the same for skull of the manari, but look what happened. This has a 4/4 attached. Also, druid gains so much armor skipping a turn won’t do shit.

I don’t think that’s a fair comparison. Skull was underrated before kobolds launched, yes, but weapons are much harder to remove and it put the minions into play, completely subverting the mana cost and drawbacks of the cards. This just gives you a discount on one and then trades down with numerous 3/4/5 drop minions. Maybe I’m wrong but this feels way too slow.

its a better thaurisan because its semi targetted and druids can ramp

You know what’s a better tempo play? reducing a card by seven mana.

You are pretty much playing this card for 0 mana and investing tempo in your next turn. I don’t see how this could NOT see play in ramp or big druid.

Me: they have already made Maly Druid too consistent this expansion, I don’t believe they can possibly break the deck even more.
    Blizzard: Hold my beer.
6/5 stars, BTW. We all know how Emperor Thaurissan shaped OTK decks, and what mana reduction does to combo decks.

    • Soup And Salad
      July 30, 2018 at 6:08 am

It’s still a 7 mana 4/4. Against anything remotely faster than it, a combo Druid would basically be giving a free turn to their opponent by playing this.

      • DukeStarswisher
        July 30, 2018 at 7:17 am

With all of druid’s ramp capabilities and armor gain, druid can afford to invest a card for the next turn at 7 mana.

Yes, the best anti aggro class in the game has no option other than playing this. In no way is this going to be generated from Dollmaster plus psychemellon. Its not just objectively a stronger win condition than taunt Druid. There is no way this is played on turns 3 or 4.

Its not just this card, its everything else about the classes identity. It stupidly broken on top of everything else.
