Battlegrounds Rating Will Be Reset Early Next Week, The Big Minion Rework Is Finally Coming

Well, the news about rework has been circling around for a while now. It was first announced nearly 2 months ago, alongside Fire Festival. After that, Blizzard has dropped a few small bits here and there, but nothing major – so most of what we know comes from that initial announcement:

NEXT MAJOR BATTLEGROUNDS UPDATE

Finally, looks aren’t the only thing being updated in Battlegrounds! In an upcoming content patch, Battlegrounds will get all-new heroes and undergo a major rework of all minion Types. We will be swapping out over 30 existing minions for new ones specifically designed to play off the core fantasy of that Type and re-emphasize how the Types play, giving the entire mode a massive refresh! For instance, Pirates will have a bigger emphasis on amassing Gold and treasure, with new cards like Briny Bootlegger and Nosy Looter.

Briny Bootlegger is a tier 3 pirate Battlegrounds minion with 4 attack and 4 health that reads at the end of your turn, if you have another pirate, add a gold coin to your hand. Briny Bootlegger tripled is an 8/8 that reads at the end of your turn, if you have another pirate, add 2 gold coins to your hand.

Nosy Looter is a tier 6 7 attack 6 health pirate Battlegrounds minion that reads every two turns, add a random Golden minion to your hand. Nosy Looter tripled is a 14/2 that reads at the start of your turn, add a random golden minion to your hand.

Keep an eye out for more about the changes that will be coming to Battlegrounds as we get closer to the launch.

Then, a few weeks later, Lead Designer Alec Dawson has dropped some more information. And it looks like the update is finally coming! Everything points out towards Patch 21.2 getting released next week. And it’s going to be a really packed week, given that we’ll also get two Warlock balance changes as well as the first actual Mercenaries gameplay showcase. There’s a lot to look forward to.

As a part of the update, the devs are also going to reset everyone’s Battlegrounds rating:

It’s not the first time this has happened. The last rating reset was scheduled for early May, alongside Patch 20.2 – it was the update adding Quilboars. It looks like Team 5 is continuing their plan to reset MMR every “season”, so with every major update like that. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that while your EXTERNAL MMR is reset, your HIDDEN MMR remains intact. And if your hidden MMR is higher than your visible one, you will rank up much quicker until those two align once again – it’s a bit like the bonus stars system in Constructed.

Are you excited about the big update? Or maybe you’re waiting to see what Blizzard has been cooking with the Mercenaries game mode? Here’s to hoping that it will be another massive success like Battlegrounds!

I really like Battlegrounds, but honestly – mine too. I’ve been excited for Mercenaries ever since they first announced the mode. Slay the Spire is one of my favorite games ever and I hope for something along those lines.
