Twist Format Is On A Pause in April, Will Probably Return in May

Just a quick update for Twist enjoyers (I wonder if we have any of them here). Today, with the start of the April season, the mode is down again. Players will have to wait until (probably) May to play a new format.

Last month was incredibly cool in theory, although sadly not from the perspective of content creators like us. With a new expansion added each day, I just couldn’t possibly update the top decks post. At first, I thought that I might be able to, but there was just no way. Even when I found a new deck, the format was just about to rotate anyway, so posting it would be useless. While some decks could stay viable between expansion releases (or this case over a couple of days) but it’s pretty rare that they are played in exactly the same form. Not to mention that almost no one was sharing decks online for the same reason – it was pretty much pointless to do so.

Another issue with last month’s mode was obviously the cost – I bet that many players would love to experience some of the older metas, but crafting cards just to be able to play them for a single day isn’t feasible. This is another reminder for Blizzard that if they want to keep the mode alive, they NEED to make it more accessible for an average player. People with a big Wild collection are a minority, and not every player out of those will want to try out every Twist format anyway. Alienating most of the playerbase by not providing any alternative such as free decks or a big pool of free cards they can use is just not going to work in the long run.

Anyway, we still don’t know what format will come next. We aren’t even 100% sure if it will come back for May, although I would assume that it’s the case. The only thing Blizzard said was that it would be paused for the April season. Pausing it in the first place seems really weird – imagine if that’s how Tavern Brawls were first introduced. “So here’s a cool, new, casual format you can play for a week… but then it will be down for the next week or two for reasons we won’t give”. It just doesn’t make any sense to me, but then again, I’m not a game designer.

Sorry about another Twist rant, I wanted to keep the post short and just inform you that it’s down in case you’re wondering, but I just couldn’t help myself. Anyway, I’ll update you as soon as we get some info about the next format.

Twist should be a place to try new ways to play the game. Add a new button that does something new, change the core rules of the game a bit, etc…

Right now it is EXTREMELY boring.

Well written, and even as someone with a big wild collection I am unable to think up a new deck every day, since time is limited on a day.
