This week’s Tavern Brawl is Your Standard Brawliseum. This is hot on the release of the Rastakhan’s Rumble expansion, so expect to see some new cards and decks making their way into the Tavern Brawl!

In this Brawl you actually pay to enter like Arena, but by doing this you get access to big prizes if you can rack up the wins. You are also in luck if you are low on gold, your first run will be free! Also, just like Arena, you play until 12 wins or 3 losses. The more wins you get, the better the prizes! Check out a full list of the reward structure below.

Yeah, the Shaman rush deck didn’t work well at all for me: I was paired with hunters mostly and they all seemed to be able to kill off most of the minions (mostly “hunter secrets” deck). I went 2-3, very very disappointing, and that’s it for this brawl. Very lame brawl…having to craft a whole deck with a new meta.

Bad timing for this brawl. I want try wacky decks on ladder, instead should grind brawliseum with boring last expansion aggro decks

Why do you need to grind brawl, no one is forcing you to play a format you don’t like.

Its chance to farm gold being f2p. Game is unenjoynable if u dont get enough cards.

Lots of complaints coming up but this is my favourite tavern brawl by far. You only need 7 wins to basically get a free run (get your gold back for entry plus whatever other rewards you get). Anything above that is additional profit. You also get 10 gold every 3 wins, same as playing on ladder (which you don’t get for arena).
Every other tavern brawl I would just play for one free pack then leave it for a week so I definitely think this one has much more replayability.
This is quite helpful for me to build up some more of the new cards as I don’t like spending any money on packs.
If you don’t like it then just take the one free entry and leave it for a week. That’s what I would have done with any other brawl anyway.
Anyway, big thumbs up from me. Wish they would do these types of brawls more often.

I don’t disagree with you, I think there’s a place for this format now and then, it is quite cool to be able to test standard ladder decks in an arena context.

However, getting 7 wins is tough, and if you haven’t got a decent tier 1 or 2 deck it’s going to be even harder.

In terms of building up packs at a discount/free, this is no different a format to Arena, which you can do all year long. The only advantage is probably the consistency if you’ve got a top meta deck, but that’s exactly what the majority of people who don’t are put off by. I’d be curious to know if it gets harder to get wins as the week goes on as people with weaker decks simply stop playing it.

If this is the only way they can create this format now and then fine, but why they did it the week of the expansion I don’t know, surely a whizbang style tavern brawl would be better to enable everyone to play the new decks casually?

I agree with some of what you say.

I don’t think that you need to have a bunch of new cards to do well though. No one really knows what the top meta decks are yet either, the best deck with these cards may not have even been discovered yet.

I did 9 wins on my first run, 10 wins on the second run and 10 on my third run (Kingsbane rogue is the bane of my existence stopping me from getting 12 lol)

I have just used odd dragon warrior each run, there are no new legendary cards in the deck, the majority of the cards were already released so most people should have them. https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/decks/sjows-rastakhan-odd-dragon-warrior/

I don’t want to start an argument but I genuinely believe that most people who are complaining about cards they don’t have usually are making mistakes with the cards they do have which is a bigger factor in how well they perform. I have not spent money on this game for the last four expansions. It’s pretty easy to save up enough gold and dust to create one or two good meta decks, you don’t need to play every single one. A lot of the strong aggro decks are quite cheap to craft as well.

I agree with your comments about it potentially becoming more difficult as the players who are not doing well will likely only take the one free run and the players who are consistently doing well are more likely to queue up again.

I do much better in this format than I usually go in arena. I usually only average about 5 in arena but that’s probably just because I’m not as familiar with that format, I’m sure others farm it much better than I do.

That being said, I don’t think that it is insignificant that you get 10 gold every 3 wins which you don’t get in arena, that can add up to an extra 20 – 40 g per run which makes it easier to keep going. I know that there is a daily cap however.

Another point to note is that you only actually need like 2 wins and you are still getting approximately the same value for your gold as if you just purchased packs outright. This is very easy to achieve for anyone since that is only a 40% win rate. So the risk of entering is actually quite low when you think about it.

Fair enough, those results are very good going, I’d get in as many rounds as you can! I’ve gone 4-3, 12-2, 5-3, now, almost going 0-3 on the last run before winning 5 in a row. Its a small sample, but is better then my arena average which is like 4.5 I think. It looks like a solid dragon deck, guess the trouble is always going to be against some combo decks and infinite decks like kingsbane given there’s not really a big late game finisher aside from fatigue.

Like I said I do think there is a place for the format, given its only once (or maybe twice?) per expansion. The biggest thing is probably just why this week, like you say with people experimenting and unsure of the new cards, old decks, and aggro, are still really effective, which kind of defeats the point of it being the first brawl of the new expansion. It’s also a time when more casual players are probably playing who would prefer a Whizbang style brawl.

I think saying 2 wins is similar value to a card pack is a bit optimistic though, given your just as likely to get a common card, but its a nice point about the added 10g per 3 win rewards.

I also think this is one of the better brawls but also not a balanced one.
      Especially right after expansion start.
Also: Quote: “You only need 7 wins ” – you serious bro?
Not everyone has the gold/dust/credit card to craft all the precious decks that are able to grind that win ratio out.
I like to play hunter, shaman and warrior. If you want to win the Brawl you have to play warlock or paladin. Dunno about you but I cant afford my 3 fun classes and the two dominating the meta.
Yeye my decision to play classes that are not OP blah blah. But from a pure casual I can tell you: 7 wins in one run is not that easy for everyone. Not in arena, not on ladder and not in this brawl. Forced 50% win rate is also a factor.
      Just my 2 cents.

        >If you want to win the Brawl you have to play warlock or paladin.

No you don’t, you can play most classes to 7, 12 is a different thing, but I’ve taken all 9 classes to 7 wins.

      • Havok
        December 7, 2018 at 10:21 pm

I am not sure what list you are playing, but all three of those classes should get you to 7 wins. They all ha3be strong decks in the meta, so maybe some fine tuning to your list would help. I am even doing pretty well with shivala OTK in the brawl this last run I am on. We all know that won’t be high tier. I am predicting 3rd tier or low 2nd.

      • MattH
        December 9, 2018 at 3:44 pm

If you read my later post you can see that warrior was the only class I played, and it was a deck with none of the new legendary cards as I do not spend money on packs.

  4. Freedon
    December 5, 2018 at 8:20 pm

I wouldn’t bother with this format beyond your 1st free go unless you have a decent enough deck to get at least 3 wins and want another format to do the same ladder grinding, with small rewards.

Having gone 4-3 on my first run I went in again and got a bit of luck to bag a 12-2 run with a mid-budget Even Shaman deck that I haven’t changed since September. Great, you think, except that even having done that the reward feels so bad.

    250 Gold.
    1 Golden Common
    1 Rumble Pack
    1 Witchwood Pack

Like wow, that’s 500 worth of Gold for maxing out the competition and grinding past standard ladder decks for several hours. 500 Gold is better than none, but take away the 150 entry fee and 100 gold value of the classic card pack generated from a normal tavern brawl, and the grand reward for going 12-2, and risking 150 gold, is 250 gold.

I hate the gambling house that Blizzard is. The range of rewards for 12 wins is between 470g and 5060g. The extent to which you are better off being lucky than good is amazing, in what world should someone getting 8 wins be able to get 4x more reward value (approx. 1960g) then someone getting 12? Like, imagine at the HS world championships the reward for coming first was: ‘Being given the greatest chance of getting the top prize money in a lottery’, but in the end, some guy who got knocked out in the quarter-finals wins it. A degree of RNG in the game itself keeps it fresh, but the degree of RNG in the rewards structure, (including to an extent card packs) is seriously aggravating.

I’m so salty it hurts. Normal tavern brawl is better.

I agree with you that the rng at the rewards can be frustrating. Nevertheless i think this brawl is a realy hugh gift for the players. Since the aim of this brawl is Never to get 12 Wins. Your aim is to finish each brawl with around 7 wins so your “win” is a free entrance for the next brawl which means a free pack. The only problem i see with this brawl ist that Players with a hugh cardpool benefit much more on this brawl. Ich think Blizzard would have done better if Players would have access to all standardcards when they are Building a Deck. But anyway its a Great brawl with awesome rewards.

At the end you say you are salty.
But your comment is so well explained and rationally reasoned that I want to give you 20 thumbs up and a hug. You are a good person. Keep it that way.

I’m confused at why you would even take out the value of the classic card pack when you got 2 card packs out of it anyway? I was more psyched for this than the average tavern brawl for 1. I am guaranteed to get a rastakhan pack and get more of the new stuff and 2. I get to draft my own deck and play something I am comfortable with instead of struggle through the difficulty I have with arena. It was like free money, even if you lose three games you still get a pack and in a regular tavern brawl you HAVE to win one to get a pack. Idk, I feel like the rewards here are way stronger.

If I wanted to play standard then I’d play standard. Look forward to Tavern Brawl each week because it’s something different. Brawliseum is just lazy, could’ve atleast made it new expansion cards only or like the Fireside Prerelease brawl where you could use every classes cards in a deck.

    • Mr.You'reWrong.com
      December 5, 2018 at 3:10 pm

the reward is greater than a standard brawl. It helps those who are less fortunate in getting a boost.
Also netdecking for a cheap deck isnt that hard.

      • Sathrax
        December 5, 2018 at 3:45 pm

It does no such thing. speaking as someone who doesnt pay money to stack up my cards brawliseums are exactly the opposite. Theyre a waste of a brawl because if youre less fortunate, you dont have hte money to blow on brawliseum. The first playthrough, fine great, but past that its basically a waste of a brawl unless you are one of those people with jacked out decks. HOWEVER, i dont COMPLETELY disagree with all your points, as I discovered the easiest way to deal with brawls like tis is simply to use Whizbang.

i have but 0 money into HS and i have most of the meta decks… if ya do your quest every day and manage your collection properly u will have plenty of decks to play…. aggro decks cost nothing u can make one deck per month pretty much cuz most of the power cards are same in every deck

I guess it would be more intresting if this brawl could only be played with cards of the new expansion and classic. That would help people too to decide what cards to craft after the brawl.

    • Havok

If you can’t afford the cards to play the tavern then don’t expect to them for free. Players who pay for them rightfully get to use them.

    • PlsStopPayToWin
      December 5, 2018 at 2:15 pm

Yes, they get to do that 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Do they also have to be superior in tavern brawl just because other people don’t have as much time to play? Sure, they would probably win anyway, but at least let the casuals try and compete with the same cards.

    • Zai
      December 5, 2018 at 2:22 pm

Right now tavern brawl is the ONLY game mode that usually give no advantages to paying players. You already have ranked and casual (on both standard and wild) and arena. You really need another one? You really think that excluding the non paying players from another mode is good for the game as a whole?

      December 5, 2018 at 12:03 pm

Right. If you’re going to have this tavern brawl, at least let everyone use all the cards so we fight on equal terms. Sucks to be crushed in tavern also just because you don’t play enough to get thousands of dust.

      • Shoukyaku
        December 6, 2018 at 4:27 am

Well then stop being so poor and purchase packs. If you’re SO broke you can’t afford to pay something so miniscule your priorities in life are skewed anyway and you need to focus on bettering yourself and not playing games. Also. So someone else is supposed to be penalized because they put WAY more time into the game than you? That isn’t how ANYTHING in life works. Effort equals reward. Stop playing the victim. If you can’t sink money AND time into the game then it isn’t for you. Go play something else and stop whining. You don’t get an equal reward for doing less than others.

Uh ok this is a very lazy and almost money grubbing brawl. They already have an arena mode. Whats the point in duplicating it exactly for tavern brawl. Especially the pay 2 play part.

Some folks dont even play arena. Sure first time is free. Thats how the drug dealers hook ya too lol.
