Official Description for Top 2

The Innkeeper is wondering which two cards work best together. Show him – choose 2 cards and we’ll fill your deck with them!

Top 2 Chalkboard

General Information

  • You get one card pack from the latest expansion for winning your first game this week.
  • It’s the sixth time we see this Brawl (including Standard version). Last time we’ve seen it on April 24, 2024 (May 16, 2018 for Standard).
  • It’s a PvP Brawl.
  • The Brawl’s format is Wild.
  • It’s a Constructed Brawl. You pick a class and build your own (albeit small) deck.
  • This Brawl has inspired the (ultimately more common) Top 3 and Battle of the Bans Brawls.
  • Gameplay itself has no extra rules – the only rule comes from deck building. You pick only two cards and you get 15 copies of each one of them in your deck. Which means that you can build the ultimate synergistic decks very easily.

Top 2 Decks & Card Chocies

Here are some of the ideas for “decks” you can build. Please share yours in the comment!

Update: Patches the Pirate and Hamuul Runetotem got banned from the Brawl.

maybe he has superior equipment so his animations run faster?

i think that turns with many cards played / many attacks declared should get some extra seconds of time, and turns with no action should lose some seconds to spare waiting time for the opponent, but the game is as it is

    thanks for the update!

coldlight oracle should be replaced by prize vendor in the naturalize deck, now that it has been buffed.
prize vendor is cheaper, bigger, and gives the same amount of cards to both players.

it is hard to find a deck for hunter in this format, but metaltooth leaper is even outmatched by the neutral security automaton, now that mechwarper is nerfed and galvanizer has to take its spot.
–> the best galvanizer deck in this format is currently mecha-shark imho, but that is only available to mage.
–> the best hunter deck is probably stonetusk boar + birdwatching

    in other news:
given how popular it is, astral automaton (+animate dead / embalming ritual / raise dead) should definitely be on the list of example decks, which lacks a priest deck anyway.

given how popular it is, aegis of light + dragonscale armament should definitely be on the list of example decks, which lacks a paladin deck anyway.

warrior – anima extractor + risky skipper has game against anything outside of soularium / pogo hopper / automaton and is a blast to play – should definitely be on the list of example decks, which lacks a priest deck anyway.

mage – elemental evocation + thunderbringer
multiple elemental invocations being played, each discounting thunderbringer by 2. actually a good strategy, because the thunderbringers have taunt and spawn more thunderbringers when they die
theoretically possible T1 on the draw (coin + 3 invocations + thunderbringer) – should definitely be on the list of example decks, which lacks a mage deck anyway.

rogue – tendrils of chaos + shadowstep looked like fun

as stated in the forum, “counterfeit coin + flik skyshiv is a thing that people do” (but not very often)

honestly i cannot believe they did not ban soularium.
if you combo it with soul barrage you win most games on T2, and on T3 your win is almost inevitable, there is no real way to stop it. I have tried irondeep trogg, eternium rover, armorsmith and oh my yogg with no success, and those cards fail miserably against every minion-based deck.
with fist of jaraxxus instead of soul barrage it is less severe because you can deflect much the damage to small minions and win with some luck, but it still makes for very un-interactive games.
the perfect foil against soularium is death knight – horn of winter + frozen over, but all the other decks that are currently played do not draw extra cards and therefore win against that strategy

I get Hamuul, but why did Patches get banned?

The Ship’s Cannon and Southsea Captain combos wait for turn 3 before doing anything, by which time the match is over.

the real patches deck was druid – embiggen + patches.
      that was really broken

but while i get the patches ban, i do not get that soularium and pogo hopper (and automaton to a lesser extent) can roam around unharmed.
if you want to try a strategy that is slightly off, then you have to auto-concede whenever the first card your opponent plays is a soularium or a pogo (or an automaton), which at times seemed to be 90 % of all games

It looses to Warlock but Priest

    Astral Automaton
    Animate Dead

    is pretty good.

Warlock = beat most but druid
Druid = counter warlock but easily countered

If by Druid you mean the Hamuul deck, and by Warlock you’re referring to mentioned below, this was correct as of yesterday.
But, good news! Hamuul got emergency banned today. So, spam those Soul Barrages!

        May 8, 2025 at 9:20 PM

I meant Pounce Druid. Mega strong. Kill on turn 1 or 2.

          May 8, 2025 at 11:11 PM

          pounce druid has two weaknesses.
the first is that you never have the time to win T1, because time always runs out.
the second allows me to win every time agianst pounce druid if i am warrior, priest or druid

Warlock- The Soularium/Soul Barrage destroyed my Rogue- Pogo/Shadowstep deck.

      Replace shadow step with evasion?

        This.

        • Covalerahien
          May 8, 2025 at 5:14 PM

…is not the card I was thinking of.

No. I get the reasoning. But it’s too slow. The idea with any Pogo deck is to spam Pogo.

          • BIackBear
            May 8, 2025 at 5:29 PM

Evasion each turn shuts down solarium warlocks entire gameplan as you can only take 1 damage at a time, while also spamming larger and larger men it should be very easy to win with against solarium/soul barrage warlock

      • Covalerahien
        May 8, 2025 at 5:20 PM

The upgrade for Shadow Step is Breakdance.
It technically slows your spam down, but the trade-off is that you’re replacing each Pogo you bounce with a minion of equal size and Rush.
So you’re gaining board advantage faster.

    Hamuul banned.

  8. Covalerahien
    May 7, 2025 at 9:23 AM

I thought Hamuul was the most broken card ever made last week in Yellow-Brick Brawl.
Pair him with any Nature card here.
It doesn’t matter which, because that first hero power tap is for a 15/15!

    • Covalerahien
      May 7, 2025 at 10:08 AM

My previous favorite was Soularium & Soul Barrage.
This is great against swarm decks.
Not so much against my opponent playing Hamuul & Innervate, which was what I played earlier.

My opponent (Mage) managed to get Thunderbringer down on turn 1.
I only saw it and the coin played. What did I miss?

    • Tailsfromvienna
      April 29, 2024 at 3:24 PM

you missed multiple elemental invocations being played, each discounting thunderbringer by 2.

actually a good strategy, because the thunderbringers have taunt and spawn more thunderbringers when they die

Shard of the Naaru counters many decks like Pogo and Patches.
Astral Automaton is a good fit for the second slot, as it snowballs nicely.

and as Quakins already mentioned below: flik skyshiv + counterfeit coin is a thing people are doing

    • Covalerahien
      April 25, 2024 at 4:17 PM

I’d go so far as to suggest Shard is your MVP here.
It shuts down all swarm decks, and is card draw when you’re the swarm player.

    • Covalerahien
      April 25, 2024 at 5:06 PM

Watch out for Soularium + Soul Barrage

  11. Quakins
    April 24, 2024 at 12:29 PM

Horn of winter + frozen over has been shockingly effective for me. You basically beat anything that draws cards; even pounce + spread the word if you go first. Also, you deterministically win on turn 5 (going first at least) if they don’t do anything (which is shockingly common because flik skyshiv + counterfeit coin is a thing people are doing). You can potentially fizzle but the odds are very low as long as you remember to mulligan. At least I haven’t fizzled in 10 or so games of playing the deck.

    • Tailsfromvienna
      April 24, 2024 at 1:10 PM

i am deeply impressed how far out of the box hearthstone can be taken.
the only twist about the deck is that you need 2 real mana crystals (not just 1 crystal and the coin), so going second maybe means that you die to T1 Embiggen-Embiggen-Patches from your opponent. … but on the other hand that is true for almost every deck

      • Quakins
        April 24, 2024 at 2:07 PM

yeah it is a shame. I was so embarrassed my first time playing the deck when I tried to coin out a frozen over to combo off and kill a pounce druid that wasnt able to kill me turn 1… whoops. But honestly it’s probably the best deck in the format (and embiggen is up there as well) so I’m not super upset that the matchup is *only* 50/50. Other than that it has a tough time beating decks that play to the board (but don’t draw a ton) actually because you won’t have as much health to work with when you do go off. Like the deck you suggested in your other recent comment would probably also be a good matchup just as a virtue of dealing like 10+ damage to me before I can try to win. Still, a fun thing to do that’s not one of the handful of decks everyone is playing just to get their one win in lol. Cheers

I like Mechwarper + Mecha-Shark, but you need 5 Sharks at once for 30 damage, and 2-3 Mechwarpers to discount them, so it’s a turn 5 combo at best (and you run out of space if you want to do it below 8 mana, because you need 3 Mechwarper and 5 Sharks)
still managed to beat some decks, but helpless against pogo and patches

Soulfire + Hand of Guldan looked impressive

Murloc Holmes + Innervate was surprising … Murloc solves the case every time on turn one!

Flurgl + Toxfin keeps pogo and patches in check nicely (obviousy)

Cutting Class does not really cut the class – you have to attack turns 4 and 5 with 15 attack (without the coin), or you coin out the dagger on T1, follow up with Poison-Poison-draw on T2, allowing you to attack for 11 on T3, and live the dream of attacking for 19 on T4 for the win – provided you have not been killed by that time (usually you die on their turn 4), there is no taunt in the way and you drew the right mix of draw and poison in the early turns

Piranha Swarmer also looked like a nice card to have multiples of

Aldor Attendant + Libram of Wisdom is worth a try, but rather mediocre in its results

Ice Block + Frost Lance is powerful but super slow. make sure you mulligan away as many ice blocks as possible, you will start ot curse them later as they clog up your hand. Once you have 10 cards in your hand you fire your first salvo of Frost Lances, usually cutting your opponent’s life total in half. From then on your turns consist mostly of Ice Block-ping-go and you pray for enough Frost Lances to end the game quickly. If you are up against Warrior, you are out of luck, because the theoretical maximum of damage in one turn is 36, and once he is at 37 you cannot kill him any more, because you only draw one card per turn. Smart opponents also refuse to trigger your Ice Blocks and your hand becomes even more clogged.

You might want an opponent who needs spells but if you want to play dk:
Irondeep trogg + grave strength works ok

Hi, two things: 1. The description part is wrong in the post. it says ”Magical creatures are escaping from Tol Barad! Play a minion and get a random spell of the same cost, but for free!” when it should say ”The innkeeper is wondering which two cards work best together. Show Him – choose 2 cards and we’ll fill your deck with them!´´ . 2. The other thing, is that discard warlock is also great with this. ”The soularium” + ”Soul Barrage´´.

Very good combination, feels great to watch all those Pogo and Patches decks concede after you play the Shard 🙂
I tried replacing Mule with Gear Grubber and it’s been working quite well so far, because most turns I was floating mana anyway, and you don’t lose its effect if it ends up in your opening hand after the mulligan.

After trying different combos with the Demon Hunter, this one gave me the biggest win record of 31-6, which isn’t too bad considering no one ever mentioned this combo before. Now, I do know for a fact there are better combo’s out there, but you do have to admit this one will surely irritate countless players.
