Tavern Brawl A Brawl of Fire and Ice

This week’s Tavern Brawl is A Brawl of Fire and Ice! You start out against Ragnaros the Firelord who has 60-Health and a 2-Mana Hero Power: Swat Fly! This deals 3 damage to a random enemy, for now… When Ragnaros has 50-Health, Ahune the Frostlord takes over the game. He also starts at 60-Health and has a completely different deck and hero power. His hero power is Freezing Touch, which Deals 1 damage. If it kills a minion, it summons a Frost Elemental! Ragnaros will come back into the game once Ahune has 50-Health, no matter what part of the turn it is.

When Ragnaros comes back into the game you immediately are given the card Celebrate Fire Festival, which gives your minions +2/+2 for 2-mana. His hero power also changes to DIE, INSECT! This does 8-damage to a random enemy.

Ahune again pops out when Ragnaros hits 25-Health. His hero power does not change. Once Ahune freezes the entire board, you get a 2-mana card called Frostbite. It’s a spell that once played will destroy all enemy minions. Ahune will stay out until you fully relieve him of health. You then finally have your chance to finish off Ragnaros and earn your pack!

A Brawl of Fire and Ice Deck Lists

I used Roffle’s Wild Dude Paladin not really knowing what I was going into face. I don’t know that I’d recommend going down this path, because the 1/1s are really weak to Ahune’s hero power. However, I was able to complete it on my first try and it does work well against Ragnaros’ hero power.

played a C’thun deck and managed to get C’Thun to an 88/88. Fight was very fun to sit back with a board of huge minions ;3

I used a changed version of my Dead man’s hand control.
So far 2 for 2. Pretty easy, first time was overkill with 28 health left, second time with 10 health but 2 Nzoths with taunts helps a lot!

Good luck and have fun 🙂

I beat it second time with the priest deck I use for everything, main things i used were lady in white, Marin the fox and sleepy dragon. I basically just buffed my dragon up to 50/50 then worked through the transition of health.

How do you buff the dragon up to 50/50?

      • Someone
        July 28, 2018 at 1:57 am

You can use a variety of buffs, such as Velen’s Chosen (+2/+4) and Power Word: Shield (+0/+2), to increase a minion’s health (preferably one that already has high health), and then you use two Divine Favors (double a minion’s health) plus an Inner Fire (set attack equal to health).

I’d recommend using Deathlord (3 for a 2/8 taunt with “Deathrattle: Your opponent puts a minions from their deck into the battlefield.”) as he’s super easy to buff up to 15 health (the magic number where 2x Divine Favor plus Inner Fire buffs to 60 attack). You then just have to get through two phases. I don’t know why, but they switch less often when you OTK them repeatedly.

Okay so i just created a random deck with the standard deck helper and did it the first try with 18 health remaining. Imo that was way too easy

I didn’t read anything about the brawl and just threw together a miracle priest setup with spells, Lightwarden and Lyra. I don’t know why, but they didn’t kill my evergrowing Lyra the whole game, just constantly froze it.
As my hand was full with spells the whole time I didn’t receive the first and second spell from them, but I somehow won, already both in fatigue.
    I still don’t know how I did that…

Do you even know what otk stands for? There’s no such thing as Shudderwock Otk deck.

      • Josh Gould
        July 26, 2018 at 12:45 am

Actually there is a shudder work otk, but not one that we see often, it’s based upon minion buffs onto a pig, and then charge the previously 1 , 1 into face as a 32, 32. It wouldn’t work in this tavern brawl, but it’s still an OTK

You can use a control-y Jade Druid deck to beat this boss pretty easily.

Actually, you can use a control-y Jade Druid deck to beat any boss pretty easily.

Like, seriously. Against pretty much any adventure boss (heroic or otherwise), you can just throw down a bunch of taunts, naturalize a few minions, and run them out of resources as you play larger and larger green men. The AI doesn’t seem to know what to do about it. On this one, I ended up with a few 30/30s on the field because I guess Ragnaros doesn’t know you’re supposed to kill the Gadgetzahn Auctioneer as fast as possible.

  23. MilesTegF

I did it with an Even Shaman (i did some modifications that benefited of the Wild Format, like adding two Spirit Claws to make wrath of the air totems more useful)

It made the run very very easy since most minions in the deck have 2 or more health (making them avoid the summon of Alune’s HP) and also it made it very easy to have a large board to buff with the fire festival spell. (i also got lucky and got the +2/+2 and inmune from LK.

    Very fun brawl!

    • WingedScribe
      July 25, 2018 at 10:00 am

^This. Even Shaman worked great. Won on my first try. Neither Rag nor Ahune seem to have much in the way of AoE, so the ability to fill up your board just leaves them with no answers. And when you get Celebrate Fire Festival, the game is basically over.
