Shop Update: Shadowlands Bundle (4 Portraits for $24.99), Golden Standard & Classic Bundles (5 Golden Packs + Golden Legendary For $24.99 / $19.99)

Hearthstone shop was just updated with a bunch of new offerings. First, let’s start with some new cool alternate Hero portraits:

The first new offering is Shadowlands Bundle – we get four cosmetic Hero skins for $24.99 / €24.99, making it $6.25 / €6.25 per skin. This is actually a pretty solid offering assuming you like how those look, given that standalone skins usually cost $9.99 / €9.99 each, so you can get them at a nice discount. While this is obviously subjective, I have to say that those alternate portraits do look really nice. It’s a bit hard to see them on the bundle listing above, so here’s a better look at each one of them:

All in all, if you’re into cosmetics, I think that bundle is a really solid deal. The bundle is available through October 11 – you can get it in-game or the Battle.net shop.

Now, we also have two more bundles, this time we’re back to the “golden bundles” that clearly target whales who don’t care so much about getting new cards, but more about getting shiny versions of them.

In both cases, you’re getting 5 Golden Card Packs + a random Golden Legendary. The first bundle costs $24.99 / €24.99, while the second one $19.99 / €19.99. The difference in price is due to different formats – the second one contains Classic packs + Legendary, so cards you get from them can’t be used in Standard. Of course, in case you buy them purely for Dust, you don’t really care about that, and the second one might actually be an okay offering purely from Dust gain perspective. Sadly, it HEAVILY depends on how lucky you get with your pack openings – if you snatch another Golden Legendary or at least 2-3 Epics from your 5 packs, then it’s actually a really good deal Dust-wise. But if you open the regular 4 Commons + Rare, then it’s a tougher sell.

Interestingly, the bundles are also called “Rank 1” – I assume that you get “Rank 2” after you purchase it, maybe even “Rank 3” after that, but I’m afraid that I won’t be able to test it myself (if someone can confirm it in the comments, I’ll update it).

Update: It looks like Rank 2 and Rank 3 are real. Rank 2 gives you 12 Golden Packs + two Golden Legendaries for $49.99. Rank 3 gives you 25 Golden Packs + three Golden Legendaries for $79.99. Well, that’s a lot of money.

To me it only appears the skin bundle. The packs are not appearing 🙁
    Regional problem?

I second that, but I only checked on mobile.

The skin bundle … idk why but besides Battlegrounds, I refuse to buy ‘just cosmetics’ for such a steep price. Even if those skins look cool. Might have something to do with the overabundance of Hero Skins lately … 😉

I think that splitting them between “just cosmetics” and “just packs” is best for consumers, though. People who want skins can only buy skin bundles, people who want packs can only buy pack bundles, people who like mixing both… can just buy both, haha.

Like, I know people who want the maximum pack value because they have weak collection, but they don’t care about skins. I’m in the opposite camp now – I have all the cards I want and more than enough Dust, so I don’t want more packs, but if I like some cosmetic then I might buy it.

But yes, I’m getting less and less inclined to buy cosmetics now that I have a few cool portraits for each class. They’re really pushing A LOT of them lately and it’s not a bad thing (it’s better for everyone if they earn money from cosmetics), but it just means that I will only buy the ones I REALLY, REALLY like.

          I disagree in part.

imho the best bundles are class related ones with cosmetics and cards only for that class (duh). That way newer players have the possibility to complete class collections they like to play while ‘avoiding’ unnessecary cards from other classes.

Icing on the cake would be if they’d include special ‘class versions’ of neutral cards – same name and functionality, but fitting pictures. MtG does this (kind of) with Planeswalker Spellbooks.
