Just two hours ago, Blizzard Korea has posted a new video on their YouTube channel, called “Hearthstone: Brawl of Rastakhan” (Source). It’s not an official translation, so it might be slightly different in English, but the general theme would remain. While it’s nothing certain and we tend to not trust the leaks, so far the ones that came from official sources turned out to be real. Which means that there is a significant chance that we’re going to see a Troll-themed expansion announced in a few days at Blizzcon.
Especially since in this case, the leak would align with some of the predictions about what the next expansion might be. When Year of the Raven was first announced, we’ve got a teaser for all three expansions of 2018. The first one turned out to be The Witchwood, the second one is Boomsday Project, while we still aren’t sure about the third one. But ever since the teaser was released, Trolls were one of the most common predictions for the Expansion 3. As far as in February of this year, we’ve listed Trolls as one of the most common predictions for it. Very recently, Tharid also took a closer look at the potential candidates for the upcoming expansion, and – as you can imagine – trolls were #1.
So far, most of the Hearthstone leaks coming from official sources (Blizzard, or other people working for them) tended to be real, as detailed by chihong in this reddit comment.
But who exactly is this Rastakhan guy and how relevant is he? As you can read on this Wowpedia page, he’s the ruler of Zandalari Empire, one of the great Troll nations. He rules the entire Zandalar island from a great, golden palace. Zandalari Empire is mostly based on the real life, historical Middle and South American cultures, such as Aztecs, Mayans and Incas. If the leak turns out to be true, that’s the kind of general theme we might expect from the upcoming cards. And of course trolls – many, many trolls.
Coincidentally, Zandalar was added to World of Warcraft in the latest “Battle for Azeroth” expansion. It was alluded to multiple times in the past, but players have never got an opportunity to visit it before.
What do you think about it? Would you like to see Zandalari Empire, or trolls in general, as the next Hearthstone expansion?
Either way, we won’t have to wait long to see whether the leak was true or not – the upcoming Hearthstone expansion is likely to be announced this Friday on Blizzcon’s opening ceremony.
