Patch 20.0 is live – Classic Format, Nerf Reverts, Duels Update And More!

Patch 20.0 went live, and with it came a lot of changes announced earlier. Here’s a quick roundup of everything that happens today with the new update:

  • Patch 20.0 Release – March 25 is one of the big dates because that’s when Patch 20.0 containing all the card changes, information and so on goes live. As a part of the patch, Nitroboost Poison is getting nerfed to 2 mana, Overlord Saurfang and Barrens Blacksmith launch in Battlegrounds, a total of 545 spellls from old expansion are getting their Spell Schools assigned and so on. But wait, there’s more!
  • Classic Format – As a part of Patch 20.0, Classic format launches. Classic format will take players back to June 2014, back when only Basic & Classic (hence the name) sets were available. For many players, it will be very nostalgic to go back to the “early days” of the game, and for those who started playing it much later, it will be a chance to experience how the game looked like before any expansions were released. You can find a list of cards that will change compared to the current Standard with some history here and a list of decks we want to test out when it launches here.
  • Nerf Reverts To 36 Cards – One of the bigger features of the patch are reverts of 36 nerfs for the older cards. Some of them are already exclusive to Wild, but others are still in Standard. Which means that between the patch and the expansion, many Standard cards will get buffed, and it might heavily impact the meta.
  • Big Duels Update – While I know that many of you don’t particularly like the format (honestly, I’m with you there), it still has many fans, and it’s getting a major update. New expansions are added to the rotation (including Forged in the Barrens, which can’t be used for deck building until it launches, but cards from it can already be found in drafting buckets), 25 new Passive Treasures, 5 balance changes, extended ban list, and Hero Powers / Treasures are now easier to unlock.
  • New Achievements – After patch releases, Darkmoon Faire achievements will no longer give you XP, so it’s your last chance to complete them if you still want extra XP. We’ll get a list of new, Forged in the Barrens achievements instead and those will grant XP now (although I imagine that most of them won’t be finishable until expansion’s launch).

I think there’s a bug. They reverted a lot of nerfs, but they still haven’t revert Jaina’s.
    I demand explanation. LOL.

Ysera was also nerfed and I believe there are two other ‘recently modified’ cards from Barrens, but do we know those are all of them for now?

Anyone else have the entire classic set but the achievements are telling you, you’re missing a rare or epic Murloc?

Who thought it was a good idea to revert The Caverns Below.
Say goodbye to Wild, I won’t bother anymore.

I got like 4 golden portraits upon login after updating- did it count more wins?

A lot of people don’t like Duels? That’s news to me, Stonekeep. I have personally enjoyed the format ever since it came out and still have more fun there than I have in Arena. My only regret is that it’s a bit random.

The format isn’t very popular and I’m commonly hearing that people dislike it.

But of course different people like different things, that’s how it works. The more options we have, the better 🙂

I like the format too but I wish you could save your decks. If I’m just looking to play something quick and I don’t have a run already going, I’ll play standard or TB instead. Now I can do that with classic mode too. My only complaint really, I like the random nature of it.

Sweet, waiting for the mobile version. Don’t remember how many hours it usually takes, but I’m guessing it will be out within three hours.

About a couple of hours… 1 if we are lucky… But the shop was quick updated with 2 new classic bundels

Okay will keep a look out. Yeah saw that, only surprised that they said that the classic cards will only work in classic. I thought they would work in wild and classic. Hmm, but guess I will see how it works when it gets updated, would be weird if the cards that get opened now only would add to the classic set.

I downloaded the update for mobile and there is no classic format or core set or anything, but achievements were updated a nerfs were reverted. Did I misunderstand what’s going on? I wouldn’t be surprised….

Classic is out, can be found in normal play mode. Just as standard and wild.

The core set however is released in the same day as the expansion the 30th. (However I have heard that some card can be generated by discover card in matches, but that is most likely a bug)
