Mean Streets of Gadgetzan Launch Survival Guide

If you’ve never been around for an expansion release for Hearthstone then it can get a bit crazy if you don’t know what’s going on. I will try and answer a few commonly asked questions while providing some additional information to help you experience the launch in a positive manner!

Update

The bug with Tri-Class cards showing up too often in your packs should be fixed.

You might want to hold off on opening packs!

What Time Does Mean Streets of Gadgetzan Launch?

There’s no official set in stone time, but Blizzard generally launches these things at around 10am PST. There’s a good post by u/czhihong on Reddit discussing the previous launch times, here are estimated times for different regions:

  • NA: December 1st: 10:00am PST | 18:00 UTC
  • EU: December 2nd: 0001 CET | 23:00 UTC (December 1st)
  • Asia: December 2nd: 0800 KST | 23:00 UTC (December 1st)
  • CN: December 2nd: 0500 CST | 21:00 UTC (December 1st)

Turns out they launched it at 9am PST for NA!

Tip: Don’t plan your day around the expansion

Everyone is excited to play, but that means a ton of people are looking to get on at the same time. The servers are usually slammed, and the game can be laggy and with every launch like this there could be server issues. Blizzard seems to have smoothed this out for the most part, but there’s always a chance that problems/bugs will arise. It’s best just to wait a few hours after the expansion has been released, before you attempt to really jump in the game.

Tip: Don’t buy the wrong packs!

Quite famously some streamers and players accidentally bought the wrong packs during the Goblins vs. Gnomes expansion. Double check that you are selecting the Mean Streets of Gadgetzan packs before you make your purchase!

Tip: If you want to save money but love opening packs watch streams

Before you go throwing a bunch of money at your monitor or digital device in a frantic manner, check out some streams on Twitch during the launch. Most streamers end up buying 100s of packs, and by the time you are done watching hopefully your lust for packs has been satiated.

Tip: Don’t craft/dust Legendaries right away

It’s common for people to get excited and immediately start crafting/dusting legendaries. You should wait and see how the meta shakes out if you don’t have a lot of Arcane Dust lying around. Troggzor the Earthinator was considered to be the best card in Goblins vs. Gnomes before it was released which lead to a lot of people crafting it early on. The card ended up being rather disappointing and people were out a bunch of dust.

On the other side of the coin, don’t just dust a Legendary because you think it’s bad right off the bat. Our community rated Patches the Pirate at just above three stars, but a lot of pro players think it could be a good card. Give it some time before you immediately reach for the disenchant button.

If, however, you are a player who just enjoys having fun and wants to try everything out themselves then by all means craft away!

Tip: if you want to save some money on packs check out Amazon Coins

Sorry if this sounds a bit self-promote-y, but if you have an Android device or are willing to download an Android emulator you can save money on packs with Amazon coins. There’s a deal right now going on in the US if you haven’t used them before that will get you 40 packs for 25 dollars (15 dollar savings, ends on December 3rd). If you use our link it supports the site, check out this post for more information.

Give the meta a chance to settle

When Whispers of the Old Gods came out C’Thun Druid was looked at as the most OP deck on the ladder. It was all over the place, but as time went on the deck ended up being about average and not seeing much play. There will be decks that seem overpowered in the beginning, but once things settle down it might not be as bad as initially thought (unless we’re talking about Midrange Shaman).

I opened 62 packs. That’s 310 cards. Over 180 of them went to dust (meaning I got more than 2x of a card). What a rip off!!!

Totally agree on not dusting legendaries before the meta settles in a little bit. I dusted Baron Geddon way back when and now (as a control player) am kicking myself.
I’ve also crafted a few garbage lengendaries that are….not great. Don’t need to share specifics, just…yeah…patience is a virtue. 🙂

Is there a community consensus on legendary craft orders? I have dust for three legends, so am looking for advice on what to make first.

Not yet, I would wait until we see what decks bubble to the top.
