(Ending Soon) Knights of Hallow’s End Event Guide – How Long It Takes To Unlock All Rewards

Update: The event is ending very soon – there are only ~15h left to complete it at the time I’m writing this! If you still haven’t done it, the best way to get extra event XP is by finishing the main quest chain. Alternatively, you can just grind the game for a bit of XP per match.

Patch 24.6 introduced a brand new event system. Instead of doing them through regular Quests (usually chained together), we have a separate event UI with its own rewards track, unique quests and so on. It’s a huge upgrade compared to what we previously had – it’s significantly more intuitive now.

The first event in the new system is Knights of Hallow’s End – a pretty late Halloween event. It lasts for 2 weeks since Patch 24.6’s release (so until November 15 at 10 AM PT / 19:00 CET). But it means that you still have plenty of time to work on the rewards.

Rewards List

There are 5 different reward tiers:

  • 100 Event XP – Lich Baz’hial Battlegrounds Emote
  • 300 Event XP – 1x March of the Lich King + 1x Standard Card Packs
  • 500 Event XP – Lady Vashj Battlegrounds Emote
  • 700 Event XP – 1x March of the Lich King + 1x Castle Nathria Card Packs
  • 1000 Event XP – Banshee Tyrande Hero Skin

As you can see, the total rewards are 4x card pack, 2x Battlegrounds emote and 1x Constructed hero skin.

How To Unlock All Rewards

In order to unlock all 5 reward tiers, you need to get 1000 event XP. But how hard is that, exactly? How much do you need to play in order to do it?

The bulk of XP comes from Quest Chain you see on the image above. You have 5 Quests, each giving you more event XP. While they are very easy to finish, you need to build decks around those – luckily all of the necessary cards are available for free now that Knights of the Frozen Throne has rotated back into Core Set temporarily. Also, all of them can be completed in Casual mode, so you don’t need to worry about losing ranks. They aren’t all unlocked yet, it looks like new Quests unlock every day (so I would assume that the fifth one will be available on Day 5 of the event). Finishing this Quest Chain gives you 560 Event XP in total, so you only need to get 440 through other means.

Another way to get event XP is Daily Event Quests. They are also quite easy to finish and each of them gives you 40 or 50 XP. You can reroll them once, so you can technically try to maximize your event XP gain, but you don’t really need to do it. Even assuming the absolute worst luck and getting only 40 XP Dailies, you need to finish 11 of them. But given more average luck and some rerolls, you’re probably looking at around 10 Daily Quests on top of Quest chain.

And that’s it. The event can be completed by doing the whole main Quest Chain + around 10 Daily Quests. However, if you’re an active player, you’re very likely to see it completed faster because you can also grind XP by simply playing the game. There is no official data on how much you get per game exactly, but it seems to be tied to match length. For short games, you should get around 2-3 Event XP, while for longer games you’re looking at 5 XP or even more. You will naturally get a lot of extra XP that way while working on your dailies – and if for some reason you can’t log in to complete your dailies, you can even complete the whole event on the very last day if you grind enough. But I would recommend trying to complete as many dailies as you can, as it will make things much simpler.

All in all, I would say that an average player just completing the dailies, working on the main chain, and not grinding much should finish the event in roughly a week. But if you really, really want to get your rewards as soon as possible, you can just play A LOT of Hearthstone and potentially finish it in a day or two.

    So far today I did:

    1) A lot of Mercenaries fights (hello Rattlegore)
    2) “Trigger 4 Secrets” daily
    3) A few Constructed games

    I’m at 250 Points… so yes, it shouldn’t be too hard 🙂

While I can understand it a bit why they did this, I don’t like it that no part of the chain can be completed in battlegrounds.

It seems that the main quest chain is not fully available from launch, since after completing the first two parts it now says to wait 7 hours for the next quest (so it should be available tomorrow).
