Improved Redundant Card Handling – Rerolling Duplicate Cards If You Own Golden Version

We have to add one new thing to the long list of features added with Patch 25.0 and/or March of the Lich King expansion – and it’s a good one. Up until now, getting your Diamond or Golden cards from rewards track/events/other places was always neat, but didn’t feel great if you already owned a regular copy of the card. For that reason, Blizzard was always offering full disenchant value for cards offered on the rewards track – but that only lasted for a few days. However, starting with the next patch, they are implementing a permanent way of handling that – the same system that was announced for the new cosmetic Signature Cards.

If you get a non-disenchantable (cosmetic, e.g. Diamond) version of a card you already own, you will get an option to reroll that disenchantable card into something else. For example, let’s say you own a regular version of Grand Magister Rommath, but then you purchase Tavern Pass and claim a Diamond copy, you will get an option to re-roll that regular version into another random card of the same rarity, from the same set (so, in this case, a random normal March of the Lich King Legendary).

Overall, it’s a very positive change. Previously, if you got a cosmetic version of a disenchantable card you already owned, you could at best get rid of the normal version for 400 Dust (or 1600 if it was Golden), but disenchanting your Legendaries never feels good. Right now you can re-roll it into one you don’t own – meaning that you have a chance of opening something you want. And even if you do get something bad, you at least eliminate that card from your pool through duplicate protection and THEN you can disenchant it if you really want.

We often include specific non-disenchantable cards as part of Reward Tracks, Events, Achievements, and Shop purchases. Starting with 25.0, if you claim one of these, but already own a lower quality copy that’s disenchantable, you’ll get a popup that offers to re-roll the lower quality copy to a different card of the same rarity from that card set.

For example, Diamond Grand Magister Rommath is on the March of the Lich King Tavern Pass. If you already own Golden Rommath when you claim the Diamond, you’ll immediately get a popup offering to reroll Golden Rommath into a different March of the Lich King Golden Legendary (which, of course, respects duplicate protection). Furthermore, this feature also applies when you find a Signature card in a pack! Happy collecting!

It’s not all positive, in fact during the full dust refund period, it’s all negative. It’s much better to get full dust so that you can craft the card you want rather than to get a random card that you’re unlikely to want and that you can’t get full dust from. Of course, outside of the full dust refund period, this new system is better than nothing at all, which is what we had until now.

Actually you are right – there’s a narrow period (the first few days of the expansion) during which the old system was better. However, I still think that it’s better overall – not only it’s more consistent, but players will actually know about it since the reroll prompt will pop-up when needed. I’m sure that most of the casual players didn’t even know about the full dust refund period at the start of the set and how they can potentially benefit from it.

So is the full dust period replaced or still active for the 1st few days into the new expansion. Maybe I overread it, but it’s not clear to me.

Oh and: If I got a golden copy, then I get a random golden one, right!?

It’s retroactive? I have a Normal Balinda and a Diamond Balinda (from achievement) i can trade the normal copy for a random FIA legendary?

It’s a popup when you claim the card, so no.

I don’t believe it will apply if you already own both cosmetic and non-cosmetic copy of a card, but I wish they did something to give people an option to reroll them.
