Hearthstone Patch 23.0.2 Notes – Sphere of Sapience Banned in Duels, Mercenaries Fixes, Classic Decks Converting to Wild

Blizzard has pushed a server-side hotfix to address some early bugs. Do note that this is NOT a balance update, I expect nerfs to come next week at the earliest.

Sphere of Sapience has been banned in Wild format, as it has caused disconnects – the card will be unbanned when the bug is fixed. Minons that have been permanently buffed will appear quicker in Bob’s Tavern in Battlegrounds. A few other bugs like Mercenaries crashes and tasks or converting Classic decks to Wild also got fixed.

Read full patch notes below:

We are currently in the process of rolling out a server-side hotfix patch that makes the following updates:

• [EDITED*]: Temporarily bans Sphere of Sapience in Duels due to a disconnect bug it caused. The card will be unbanned once the bug has been addressed.
• Speeds up the rate that minions that have been buffed “for the rest of game” appear in Bob’s Tavern.
• Fixes a bug causing crashes in Mercenaries.
• Fixes a bug causing Murky’s Tasks to not automatically update as intended under the new Task system.
• Fixes a bug where Wildfire could be added to your Duels deck after it was intended to be banned in Patch 23.0.1.
• Fixes a bug that converted Classic Decks to Wild after the Core Set update.
• Fixes a bug causing Paid Reward Track Battlegrounds Cosmetics to be removed from accounts if the player got a refund for an unrelated product purchase.

*EDIT: The Sphere of Sapience Wild ban did not display as intended, resulting in player confusion as to why their deck was having error when trying to queue in Wild. To avoid further frustration and game errors, we are undoing the Wild Sphere of Sapience ban at this time as we continue to explore solutions.

In what world is there any card banned in wild intentionally????? What is that last point on about?? Once they start banning cards in WILD mode is when the game is on the skids. Are they confusing duels with wild ffs? Bc that and arena are the only modes that I thought hard bans were present.

It’s like these 2 statements were written by completely different people who have no idea what they’re talking about. If it was a duels bug causing disconnect, how would there be some “intended ban for wild” unless it wasn’t confined to just duels. And why couldn’t they just keep it unbanned in wild as intended and simply ban in duels like the supposed plan all along?? Rather than unbanning in wild and duels. I suspect these people are highly confused.

Demon Seed and Stealer are both banned in Wild. it doesn’t mean the game is “on the skids”. It means cards in wild facilitate massively over performing strategies around the banned cards and they can’t nerf them without completely ruining their viability in standard.
