George “BoarControl” Webb, one of the most famous and accomplished Hearthstone pro players, just announced on Twitter that he will be joining Blizzard as an Associate Game Designer on the Hearthstone Final Design team. That’s a long position name, but it means that that he will work on the final shape & balance of the cards as they’re released, including making any last minute changes before revealing them.
BoarControl started playing Hearthstone more competitively mid-2015, with his first tournament successes in 2016. In 2019, he joined his current team – SK Telectom T1 – which he now quits to pursue the career as a member of Team 5.
We wish him the best of luck – he definitely has the game knowledge necessary for this kind of position!
Starting next week, I’ll be joining Blizzard as an Associate Game Designer on the Hearthstone Final Design team.
I’m thrilled for the opportunity to work on the game that I’ve loved playing for years and couldn’t be more excited to join the team.

As an extra note, it’s not the first time when ex-pro player joins the Hearthstone design team. For example, just a few months a go, Gallon also quit competitive play to become a part of Team 5’s Final Design Team. Of course – given that the sets are designed well ahead, it will take some time to see the real impact those players had on the final shape of the game, but it’s always good to have a perspective and experience of a pro player when balancing cards!
