Friend of a Friend Is Getting Removed From Battlegrounds On Wednesday

Blizzard just announced that one of the minions added in Patch 22.6 is getting removed from Battlegrounds after just a few days. Friend of a Friend is a Tier 6 minion that lets you Discover a Buddy on Battlecry. It was already probably a bit too strong by itself, but the issues arrived when you combined him with Brann Bronzebeard to double the Battlecries. You could get multiple buddies and then – if you picked ones that had Battlecry effects – double their effects too. It lead to some insane swings, even more so if you found either of the minions in gold.

Friend of a Friend will be removed from Battlegrounds in a hotfix currently scheduled for Wednesday. Read the official announcement below:

Hello all,

We wanted to let you know that the Friend of a Friend minion is being removed from Battlegrounds in an upcoming hotfix patch, currently scheduled for Wednesday.

A note from the Developers about this change:

Friend of a Friend led to drastic power spikes when combined with Brann, and drove play patterns requiring an extremely high number of actions per turn. While we think there is room in the game for these types of strategies, in this case it proved too pervasive and game-warping for the overall health of the game.

We know that some players have really enjoyed Friend of a Friend. Looking forward, we think it’s important to continue to push the boundaries of the game and explore what we can bring into it, but we also think it’s important to try to respond quickly when we’ve pushed too far. Keep an eye out for exciting updates as we continue to explore and fine-tune Battlegrounds to make it the best game mode it can be!

A lot of boards get out of hand with Brann that’s why it’s a untribed 2/4 T5 minion.

BGs would be so much slower w/o Brann and the Baron.

Have they thought about having a tier “7” which is only a pool of cards you can get for tripling 6 drops, and putting cards like this one at that level

I love this idea, even just have it be from tripling ON tier 6. Would make these insane turns much harder to pull off
