(Update: Working on a Fix) Free Arcane Dust Was Given Out As A Compensation And Issues Around It (Like Missing Cards)

Update: If you don’t know what the whole situation is about, I wrote a separate article detailing everything – what’s going on with that Dust, why you got it and then Blizzard took it away, what happens to the cards you managed to craft etc. Click here to check it out.

Some of you may have noticed a big message saying that you got X Dust for free when logging in and you might be wondering why.

First things first – this is intended. The Dust is given out as compensation for opening uncraftable cards, such as Lokholar the Ice Lord, Golden versions of faction leaders etc. That’s a simple part, but it has also lead to some issues.

Here’s how an example message looked like. If you didn’t see it, then you most likely didn’t have any eligible cards:

But let’s get to the “issues” I’ve mentioned. Some players got double the Dust amount they were supposed to. This is being investigated and there is no decision what to do about it yet – they can either leave it there and let you enjoy a lot of free Dust, or take away the extra Dust – even if it was spent (it would put you into negative value). Update: Apparently they went with the second option, but it doesn’t put you into negative, only down to 0.

The second issue, however, is that many people are now missing those uncraftable cards from their collection after the refund. This is not intended and your cards will be added back.

Team 5 can’t say anything more about the situation yet until this is all sorted out. If you want to stay on top of everything, I would recommend following DeckTech on Twitter or checking this post from time to time (we’ll update it when we get more info).

Update:

It looks like they’re working on a fix now. The extra Dust was deleted from the accounts and the cards that were supposed to stay there will get added once again. The refunds will then continue in Europe and Asia-Pacific (so far they only happened in Americas).

Hey all,

We’re working to fix a few ongoing issues right now that we wanted to give you all more information about.

Last night (Pacific time), we started a heal-up that awarded many players some Arcane Dust (starting in the Americas region). That Dust was to compensate those players for a bug that allowed those players to get extra copies of uncraftable Golden cards from various sources, like monthly awards, Arena awards, and some products (but not Packs).

Those uncraftable Golden cards included cards from the Rewards Track and the Battle for Alterac Valley event. The heal-up was supposed to delete the extra copies of those uncraftable cards and award the affected players with Dust equal to the value of those cards. That’s why different players got different amounts of Dust—it depended on how many of those extra copies you had, and what rarities they were.

Unfortunately, as some of you have noticed, there were some issues with the heal-up. One issue was that several cards were included that weren’t supposed to be included, resulting in players getting more Dust than intended. A second issue was that some players got the Dust award twice. A third issue is that some players had too many cards deleted, leaving them with fewer copies in their Collections than intended. When we noticed these issues, we stopped the heal-up to avoid causing issues for more players.

The team is currently working on fixing these issues. We just ran a script to correct the Dust grants for people who got it twice, and are in the process of running a script for people who got too many cards deleted. Once these issues are fully resolved, the team will run a check to make sure the fixes have been run correctly and all appropriate adjustments have been made. Then, we will finish the initial refund in the Americas and start it in the other regions.

We will update this post when we have more information.

Update #2:

Some players are reporting that the recent “fix” took more Dust away than they got in the first place. Blizzard hasn’t given an official update about the situation yet, but devs were already notified. I’ll keep you updated and if anything new comes up, I’ll post it here!

You can keep cards you crafted with the extra dust, but you can’t keep the extra dust to craft cards with.

This directly punishes everyone who waited to craft cards.

I would have left the mistaken extra dust untouched, then comped all players who didn’t get any a free 2000 dust so they wouldn’t get left out.

Not that anyone “deserved” any extra dust. But customer goodwill is priceless and this was a ripe opportunity squandered.

Umm, yeah. I was given 5600 in dust and then they took back what appears to be twice that amount. I know only have 450 dust.

I had 4800+ dust before because I knew I could craft up to three legends. Really lame, hope it gets fixed.

I didn’t receive any dust at all and still they’ve taken all of mine. Those are the kinds of mistakes that should not be made. SPO

Microsoft can’t buy Activision/Blizzard too fast in my book.

The situation at Act/Blizz is just too chaotic.

    Too many things are buggy.

Too many things are going wrong.

Of course they have lost too many people.

Some were lost because of the gender scandal.

Others were lost because they got sick of the dumpster fire at work.

Bringing in Microsoft will be like bringing in the marines.

Such a rollercoaster of feeling. Those who responsible for this should be at least demoted.
Releasing a buggy fix? How is this possible? SMH.

Shouldn’t they have just kept the dust the way it was, otherwise it’s not fair for those who haven’t spent the dust and were waiting, while other people have spent the dust but don’t get put into the negatives.
