I decided to run Tempo Mage in Season 22.
- Even though it might not be the best deck, it was a lot of fun climbing the ladder!
Card Questions/Replacements:
- Why don’t you run Flamestrike?
- Flamestike is not good in Tempo Mage because it can be a dead card most of the game if you open it and you should never lose board control because of all of your spells.
- Archmage Antonidas should not be replaced because the whole deck is focused around using your low mana spells to be able to use them with Flamewaker and Antonidas. Antonidas is also one of the most important finishers in the deck.
- You can replace a Azure Drake with a Ethreal Conjurer.
- A Mirror Entity can be replace by a Counterspell but I chose not to because this is a more aggressive version of the deck and even a mirrored Leper Gnome can be enough to finish the game.
Strategy/Combos:
- Always prioritize killing your opponent’s minions with spells or by trading if you have could play another minion that turn.
- Always Mulligan your Mirror Entitys away because you always want to get them with Mad Scientist!
- You should normally use Flamecannon over Frostbolt since Frostbolt can go to the face.
- You should always prioritize killing minions with your spells even if you have Antonidas in hand on turn 5 or 6. Also you should not keep the coin for Antonidas either because it is much better to get a Piloted Shredder on turn 3 if you dont have a 3 drop than wait till turn 7 with Antonidas.
- Loatheb is great because it can force your opponent to play a minion on their turn 5, 6, or 7 while you have a mirror entity. This is great because then they cant play Dr. 7 unless they want to give you a 7/7. Loatheb can also act kind of like a counterspell because it can protect your board and help you get extra damage in.
Mulligan:
- If a mulligan is not stated in the deck tips that i put in the comments it is(sorry couldn’t fit it =D):
- Mulligan: Manawyrm, Mad Scientist, Flamecannon, Frostbolt, Sorcerer’s Apprentice

• RenoLock
o This is a really bad matchup. The only way to win is to really burn them down unexpectedly. With their hero power they will often out value and out card you. They also have a lot of AoE and a lot of healing other than Reno Jackson so account for the random Healbot. Here sometimes you might want to trade more than use your spells because you spells could win you the game with burst.
o Aggressive Mulligan: Manawyrm, Mad Scientist, Flamecannon, Frostbolt, Sorcerer’s Apprentice
• Aggro Shaman
o This is a even matchup. Use your spells to destroy thier early board presence and make sure you keep yours. Many of thier cards have overload so if you manage to keep board control you should be fine because it will be hard for them to do anything with less mana than you.
• Secret Paladin
o This is a pretty even matchup. Sometimes they will get the Secretkeeper, Knife Juggler, Muster for Battle, Piloted Shredder, Loatheb, Mysterious Challenger, Dr. Boom, Tirion Fordring mana curve and there is nothing you can do about it. If you have coin you should keep it for turn 3 with flamewaker for 2 missiles on muster for battle minions(very important). Keeping board control is very important here. Your hero power is also very good here. Make sure you always put yourself into a position where you don’t get rekt by consecration(also very important!). Unfortunately Flamecannon is not great in this matchup because of the multiple targets that appear. Get rid of Knife Juggler IMMEDIATLY because that and muster for battle can be enough to destroy your entire early board making it very difficult to recover from.
o Aggressive Mulligan: Arcane Missiles, Manawyrm, Mad Scientist, Flamewaker, Frostbolt, Sorcerer’s Apprentice
• Dragon/Control Priest
o This is a tough matchup. Priest has a lot of AoE spells that can be tough to fight through. Just fight through all of their stuff and hopefully get them down to the 10 damage range for 2x fireball when you hopefully draw it. Control Preist has Justicar that can be very frustrating to deal with. Flamecannon is really good in these matchups!
• Freeze Mage
o This is can be tricky. Freeze Mage has a lot of removal and access to Alexstraza. Since there is no heal in the deck this will be a tough matchup. Try to kill their Acolyte of Pains in one hit with frostbolt or flamecannon(since it will be dead most of the game). Save fireball for face, Antonidas, Doomsayer, or any big minions that may arise, usually face. All there is to it is to fight through their spells and hope they don’t have combo.
• Midrange/Aggro Druid
o This should be a free win either way. Often Midrange Druid won’t have a very aggressive early game, punish this for them. Druid has Swipe which should normally be a 1 for 1 trade against a drake or something of the sort. Against Aggro Druid make sure that you play all of your cards before killing Fel Reaver. This will make them mill all of their cards giving you significant advantage and often the game if all of their cards are milled.
