Mulligans

General Mulligans

General early game control tools, cycle and armor gain.

Aggro Mulligans

Only keep swtf if you already have ww or blood razor. Brawl can be kept against flood decks and on the coin. Doomsayer is good for delaying/removing and diverting damage from face. Fwa for dangerous early minions. Blood razor for synergy with swtf, acolyte of pain and as removal. Slam as removal and/or cycle. Whirlwind for swtf activator and removal of tokens.

Midrange Mulligans

Weapons and slam for early removal, shield block to cycle and gain armor, doomsayer for delaying and diverting damage, board clears for mid game.

Combo Mulligans

Against xodia mage, play as aggressively as possible..................................which this deck is bad at.

Control Mulligans

Against control Warlock, Paladin, Priest or Jade Men, cycle as much as possible to dig for combo. Execute you need for big threats (shield slam is better later) . Fwa to remove early minions (even nerfed). Hatchling to gain a bit of tempo and shuffle the 6/9, good greed. Also good for getting your opponent to confuse you with N'zoth warrior. The Curator: draw key cards and ensure greed advantage over opponent.

This Control warrior is focused around card draw, forgoing the fatigue win condition in favour of a Grommash and Alextrasza combo. Feel free to hit face with scourgelord’s or another weapon after playing Alextrasza to cut the opponent down to lethal even if Alex is removed. The deck focuses on running the opponent out of resources before stabilizing and making a fast retaliation. Direhorn hatchlings , primordial drakes, alex and corrupted seer provide the curator package for consistency and draw. The main trick to playing the deck is to think of your health as a resource, which can be managed to give an advantage over the opponent. For example, waiting a turn for brawl to bait more minions out. A one damage minion doing less damage than armour up regenerates isn’t worth removing. When in doubt, armor up!

Tech slots/replacements: Constant teching is especially useful in this deck as it has many flexible tech slots.

Can be swapped for The Black Knight or Skulking Geist. In the current meta there are plenty of targets for both bgh and tbk, so its’ really a matter of preference (or budget). Ironforge Portal can be removed to make space for both bgh and tbk at once, but costs consistency as the tech cards can be dead.  A quick note on the geist: it doesn’t even improve JD to better than a bad match up but makes other match ups worse. I wouldn’t recommend running it unless there is a green man plague in your section of ladder.

can be swapped for Doomsayer or whirlwind for a 17 damage finishing combo with grom and blood razor. Particularly good vs Razakus Priest (be careful of greater healing potion) . However in this list I’ve dropped the funny combo in favour of more consistency against rogue. A further option is to run a copy of dead man’s hand for more value.

There are plenty of other tech options which can be used, depending on preference, such as

or

For anyone wondering why the deck includes Direhorn Hatchlings and no N’zoth, running N’zoth is very slow and takes up slots (along with other n’zoth minions) which are needed for the combo which closes matches such as priest. Without the grom+alex combo shadowreaper anduin is deadly. The direhorns are less vulnerable to kabal shadow priests and potion of madness, trade better and have much higher overall value than, Alley Armorsmith. Additionally, the direhorns provide two curator procs each and a 6/9 taunt each which is great greed. They also mess with the opponent, who will expect n’zoth warrior and play accordingly.

Just a quick warning to everyone who may craft or play control warrior in the current meta; it’s playable but not very good. Not worth crafting unless you have a huge budget or don’t mind losing to bigger and bigger jade men.  However for anyone looking for a bit of rebellious fun, and catching your opponent by surprise, this is the deck for you.
