(Day 2 Live) Death Knight Preview Showmatches Happen Today & Tomorrow (Nov 16-17) – Get Two Free Packs For Watching!

Update: Day 1 is now live!

Update #2: It looks like the original blog post was incorrect and we’re getting one Castle Nathria pack and one March of the Lich King pack from Twitch drops. It’s also not cumulative across two days – you can only get one pack today (Castle Nathria) and one pack tomorrow (MotLK). The blog post should be updated soon. (Source)

Update #3: Day 2 is live. You can earn one March of the Lich King card pack for watching the Twitch stream for at least 1 hour. Just make sure to connect your accounts – I had to do it again because mine were disconnected for some reason.

Hearthstone is getting its eleventh class very soon – over 2.5 years after the introduction of Demon Hunter, Blizzard will be adding Death Knight to the game. And it’s kind of unique – both in terms of mechanics (dying friendly minions providing Corpses that they can use to boost their cards) and deck building (Rune system that lets them run some really powerful cards of one Rune type, but limits their choices from other Runes if they opt to). Overall, it looks quite interesting.

While there are still nearly 3 weeks until the March of the Lich King expansion’s launch, Blizzard will run a series of Death Knight showmatches today and tomorrow (November 16-17). We already know all of the Death Knight cards, but how the class plays is still a mystery. And that mystery will be unveiled very soon.

12 players got invited and split into three teams – one representing each Rune (Blood, Frost, Unholy). Each member will run a different Rune combination, but focusing on their main Rune choice (so a Frost team, for example, will have to mostly use Frost runes). It’s an interesting system, as it should showcase all of the major Rune combinations – triples, 2:1 splits, and possibly even a 1:1:1 split if the 4th team member chooses to do so (but from what we’ve heard, it’s not really a good idea to go for that). The event will be casted by Slysssa and Garrett.

The matches will start at 9 AM PT (18:00 CET) on both days. We don’t know how long they will go for, but there is some good news – Twitch drops will be active. Watch the stream for one hour to earn March of the Lich King Pack – watch for an extra hour (two in total) for a 2nd pack. Your watch time will accumulate across both days. Just make sure to open the Twitch stream and connect your Battle.net account – showmatches will also be live on YouTube, but there will be no drops there.

Anyway, it should be an interesting watch – so have fun (or just open the stream in the background to get your free packs, we won’t judge you).

Join some of your favorite content creators as they explore each of the Death Knights’ Runes in a special showmatch TO THE DEATH… Knight. This special showmatch will be casted by community members Slysssa and Garrett!

12 creators will be split into three teams of four players, one for each Rune: Blood, Frost, and Unholy. Each team will have one member deep into their Rune, two members with one foot in each of the other Runes, and one Wild Card member that can play any Rune combination they want. For example, team Frost would look like this:

  • Player 1: Frost, Frost, Frost
  • Player 2: Frost, Frost, Blood
  • Player 3: Frost, Frost, Unholy
  • Player 4: Wild Card

Teams will play in a round-robin style format, with team placement and prizing being based on combined team scores.

Watch all the action live on the official Hearthstone Youtube channel or Twitch channel on November 16 and November 17, starting at 9 a.m. Pacific Time on both days. Make sure you tune in to see all the new cards in action and to see which Rune will reign supreme! Watch on Twitch for a total of one hour across both days to earn one March of the Lich King pack; watch for another hour to earn a second pack! If you haven’t done so already, be sure to link your Battle Net and Twitch account to be eligible for Drops.

Yeah, I already updated the post, it looks like they put wrong info in the blog post.

It’s 1x Castle Nathria pack today and 1x March of the Lich King tomorrow. Also the time is not cumulative across both days, you can only get one pack today and one pack tomorrow.
