Spectral Cutlass Card Review

Blizzard pls. Cards that benefit from playing cards from another class are not good. Rogue does not want to steal random cards from the opponent. Swashburglar, Lotus Agents, Ethereal Peddler, Undercity Huckster and Shaku, the Collector are all rotating out. And if that wasn’t a thing until now, with all of those cards rotating out I can’t see this being a thing either.

Anyway, let’s even assume that there will be more ways to get cards from other classes. Why would you want to use this card? First of all, it’s incredibly slow. You initially pay 4 mana for 2/2 weapon with Lifesteal. To make it better, you need BOTH Attack buffs (because you won’t really do much with a 2 Attack weapon) and cards from different classes to give it more Durability. Realistically it wouldn’t really take off until Turn 6-7 at earliest, and it’s vulnerable to weapon destruction.

The main question is, however, why not just play Kingsbane? Kingsbane + Leeching Poison costs 2 cards, that’s true, but you don’t have to play random cards from your opponent’s deck, it’s faster, it’s not vulnerable to weapon destruction (most of the time), it prevents fatigue in the long run, it works with Doomerang (this would return a BASE copy without buffs), and in case you stack it and you need to use the last charge, you can do it without worrying that you will have to stack your second copy again.

Obsidian Shard is most likely a better card (high tempo, which is great in Rogue), it didn’t see play when there were multiple cards to trigger its effect, AND you can’t even play both in the same deck. I mean, you can, but since you want to keep this alive for as long as possible, Shard will be a dead card most of the time.

Right now the only combo I see is this + Witch's Cauldron, but you basically play 2 bad cards to make this SOMEHOW work.

Unless they decide to print some broken cards that give you stuff from your opponent’s class, you should just play Kingsbane, really.

Card rating: 1/10

I had a lot of fun with this weapon so far, made an echo burgle deck with this one. Played against a druid and midgame my weapon stats was 5/13 and i had total control, and then i stole Malfurion from him, so i could buff it with +3 attack every turn, LOL.

But of course burgle rogue is not a deck you would climb the ladder with now, but its fun to play in casual mode

If burgle Rogue is a thing, this will be played in that deck and not Kingsbane. If you compare the downsides of booth this card is better in a burgle deck.

And for the noobs that go like: Yeah but if you buff it full, and get’s oozed… Why would you go full buffs on the first one? 4 atack lifesteal weapon with wich you atack EACH turn is fine. If it gets oozed you go full on the second copy. And besides if you dont have a ‘cavern shinyfinder’ in hand. The kingsbane is gone aswell, probably long enough for you to lose the game anyway.

I’m still salty from the days of miracle rogue, but even then I still can’t help but feel bad for rogues in this new expansion. They got a meme instead of a legendary, and two epics that couldn’t be less epic. That last legendary better spectacular for rogue to have a hope in the near future!!

Potential 6/6 lifesteal weapon with Lilian and Razorpetals. 3.5/5.
Against rogue is completely worthless though. .5/5 run kingsbane instead

I see this as an alternative to king’s bane. If you manage to buff the damage and keep the durability up, I think this can be pretty good. It starts of with one more attack than king’s bane but more importantly it already has lifesteal.

I still think this card is bad though, oozes are a ton more punishing for this compared to king’s bane and that weapon can even do other things like keeping you from milling yourself. With king’s bane you could just focus on building a deck around that but it has been tested in other decks such as mill and miracle. If you where to build a deck around this one it will always be a thief and weapon rouge.

Pretty bad card, perhaps an alternative to king’s bane for free to players.

Even if this was a 2 cost card it still wouldn’t see play outside arena at 4 mana not even in arena.

If this had 3 attack, it would be a lot more playable. Too bad it’s still coming out a bit late since most of the steal Rogue cards I can think of at least are leaving standard.

Very bad weapon. I can’t see why you would run this over Perdition’s Blade, which costs 3 mana and can do more damage. I’d rather it cost 2 mana and didn’t have Lifesteal. Then it would compete with Kingsbane, and would be a nice tool in Tempo Rogue (who usually heropowers on 2 anyway). At its current state, it’s more of a late game tool, where you don’t need to play Leeching Poison and can use the other-class cards to improve its durability. But in the late game this weapon pales in comparison to Kingsbane. Also, weapon removal hits this very hard. 1 out of 5 stars. #roguedecksmatter

Pretty bad card. If it was either 3 mana or had 3 attack maybe it would be ok if rogue got more standard support for other class cards (since most are rotating out) but even then it would be borderline viable.

Nothing to see here. Give me a “Give your weapon Windfury” common/rare buff for my Kingsbane, please.

If no other weapon buffs come out, kingsbane is death. This would actualy be better in that case.

So people forget that Kingsbane has some issues with the upcomming rotation. With the exception of greenskin it’s gonna lose all weapon buff minions. In addition, getting booth kingsbane and the lifesteal on it has been an issue for rogue.
Ok so an ooze will hit you harder with this weapon but if you can keep the durability up it’s actualy better than kingsbane. To bad swashburglar is rotating out…. and lilian vos is just 1 card in your deck. So, unlesh rogues get more card stealing this cant even become a meme deck.

You don’t. Blizzard wants players to use a variety of decks. This is 4 cost, like the 4 cost class legendary Lillian Voss, SO it should fit in an even cost archetype. This could have broken synergy with spectral pillager and the even echo cards. This may see play. I think OTK Rogue might be a thing.

i dont think it’ll see play in an even cost deck considering hero power adjustment are weakest in rogue and the anti synergy it has with this weapon. but i do think it’s good enough to fit into a deck… in about a year. Lifesteal was the only part of kingsbane that allowed you to win games, a 15 attack weapon is nice, but you’re still dead if it doesn’t have lifesteal. having that included in the weapon is worth at least one mana extra. weapon removal hurts a lot more but allows you to remove the lifesteal card from your deck and place something more powerful. it’s not replacing kingsbane, not even close, but it will be here a year after kingsbane is gone. I’m putting my money on this being rogue’s version of purify, too week right now, but will eventually have it’s own deck.

Yeah, I just realized … an even cost deck wouldn’t really make sense here. The Rogue hero power at 1 mana is actually pretty useless…. LUL

Blizzard wants Lillain Voss to see play I suppose. Maybe they’re pushing a thief rogue archetype? I guess the time for Kingsbane rouge came and went already with the K&C meta…. hmmm….. I’m gonna be playing Care Bear Druid with my Forest Guide and Duskfallen Avian…. Se ya guys.

I mean yeah it has some synergy with stuff like Face collector but this archetype never worked in the first place and now Swashbucklar & Huckster will be gone so wtf Blizzard.. This card is the definition of useless and a proof that Blizzard doesn’t give any of the cards a second thought except for maybe Priest cards which it seems to favor alot now.. smh

lul, one single card and some comons made the deck. and keleseth wasn’t even a rogue card. Rogue keeps getting garbage cards, that neutral cards can improve and make them better. The only reason why tempo rogue was a thing is because of Keleseth.

i think that’s because rogue has one of the strongest classic and basic card pools. especially during a set rotations when classes rely the most on those sets, I can see how rogue can be a little tricky to balance. rogue is always one powerful card from being broken.

I don’t understand why people still have expectations from Blizzard. They obviouslyy can’t and don’t want anyway to balance this game.

It should be obvious after all those years that Rogue , Hunter and Paladin are aggro only classes

Losing swashburglar really takes a toll on thief Rogue, so this card doesn’t seem like it will be very powerful, unless they reveal more cards that fit the archtype. I guess buffing it with Deadly Poison makes it pretty good, because rogue lacks healing, but if you are going out of your way to play weapon buffs you may as well just use Kingsbane instead.
