Battlegrounds Lobby Legends: Fall Championship Happens This Weekend (October 14-15, 2023)

If you like the Hearthstone Battlegrounds game mode and want to watch the highest level of competition, you should definitely tune into this weekend’s Battlegrounds Lobby Legends: Fall Championship. It’s the third and final official Battlegrounds tournament this year after the esports downsizing announced earlier this year (last year we had 9 of them).

Unlike the old Battlegrounds tournaments, this one is NOT invitational – players got qualified based on merit (ladder finishers & qualifiers). It should make things very interesting, as those are all top-ranked players.

It’s the first tournament with the new Anomaly system. Which should make things… interesting. For the viewers, at the very least. Many pro players didn’t love the new system because they think that it’s too swingy – some of the Anomalies are really “all-in” where matches are decided after just a few turns. At the same time, it SHOULD make the whole spectacle better if you’re in for some random fun.

Sadly, unlike the previous events, this one wasn’t even promoted in a blog post. We only got two social media posts (not even from the main channel) with little to no details – I’ll add them below, but you aren’t really going to learn much from those. As you can probably tell, I’m quite disappointed with the current state of Hearthstone esports. Even if you don’t think that Battlegrounds was a good for tournament format, they should have at the very least promoted the final big official tournament of the year. Or maybe even ever – we don’t know what their plans for 2024 esports are, but I don’t think they will suddenly change their mind.

The event will be streamed on both Twitch and YouTube this weekend, on October 14-15 (starting at 9 AM PT / 6 PM CET). Sadly, the event doesn’t offer drops of any kind, you won’t get any packs for watching it.
