2023 Core Set Rotation Will Get Announced Later This Week

Festival of Legends is the first expansion of 2023. Because of that, new cards are not the only exciting thing waiting for us. With the first set of every year, we have a new Standard rotation. Year of the Hydra is coming to an end, and the oldest expansions (in this case 2021 ones – Forged in the Barrens, United in Stormwind and Fractured in Alterac Valley) are rotating out to Wild to make room for new sets. On top of that, we’re also getting a “Core Set” rotation – many cards will leave the free set, while others will take their place, sometimes in updated form (usually buffed). It might have as big of an impact as the expansion itself, if not bigger.

While I thought that we might have to wait until after the reveal season to learn more about the Core Set, looks like it’s not the case. Nicholas “DeckTech” Weiss, a writer for the Hearthstone team, announced on Twitter that an announcement is coming later this week (ah, yes, the classic Blizzard announcement of an announcement). The only other comment he gave is that it’s a “fun one”.

Since that Tweet was published yesterday, “later this week” can mean sometime between today (Tuesday) and this Friday. If I had to guess, I’d say that it’s either today or Thursday, since those are the usual announcement days. Looking at the card reveal schedule, I’d lean towards Thursday, since there are no card reveals planned for that day around 10 AM PT (which is the usual announcement time). Either way, we won’t have to wait long to find out!
