Play Mode

If you’re really desperate for gold you can obtain 100 gold per day by playing in Play Mode. This means either Casual or Ranked Mode. Every 3 victories rewards 10 gold, so you would have to win 30 games in a single day to gain the max 100 gold per day.

If you’re just starting then Casual Mode can be easier based on the fact that Matchmaking will pit you against opponents of an equal skill level:

When you jump into Casual mode, you will be matched up against other Casual mode players of equal skill. So if you are new to the game, you will be matched up against other new players. If you fare well in Casual mode, you will continue to be matched against other Casual players of equal skill. This mode uses a hidden MMR rating to ensure you and your opponent should prove to be “Worthy Opponents”.

Ranked Play matches you with other Ranked Play players that are as close to your current Ranking as possible and does not follow an MMR system. So a Rank 5 Player will be matched with another Rank 5 player (or as close as possible to their current rank).

If you’re at rank 25 – 15 it can be easier to play in Ranked Mode, especially later in the season.

Arena Mode

Arena is easily the most profitable way to gain gold, dust, packs, and cards. The only problem is that being good at Arena can be difficult. It takes time to figure out how to approach every match up, what cards to pick, and how to maximize your win percentage.

Arena is 150 gold, to break even in arena in terms of value, you need to get 3 – 4 wins. This rewards you with one pack (worth 100 gold), an average of 40 – 60 gold, and about 5 dust. Stats are based on Arena Mastery averages.

Breaking even will not allow you to keep playing, because you’ll eventually run out of gold. This means you need to reach the “infinite” level. To consistently keep playing you need to average around 7 wins. This allows for variance, because sometimes you’ll win 12 and gain 300+ gold, but other times you could win as few as 3 games and only get an average of 40 gold.

Here’s a list of resources to help your Arena game.

Hearth Arena

Hearth Arena is probably the best resource for helping you with your Arena game. You can download an app that will overlay your Arena choices which will help you choose cards for your draft. While this isn’t an absolutely perfect method, it will help you as a beginner and intermediate Arena player.

Lightford Tier List

ADWCTA & Merps are a couple of the most respected Arena players, and have compiled an Arena Tier List.

Arena Streamers

Some of the well-known strong Arena players.

Tavern Brawl

Every Wednesday there’s a new Tavern Brawl, and the great thing about Tavern Brawl is that it will sometimes be premade decks which will put you on an even playing field if you’re low on cards. This also gives you a chance to complete quests with classes you wouldn’t have otherwise. Ccompleting quests via Tavern Brawl is usually much faster than Casual or Ladder.

The other great thing about Tavern Brawl is that you currently get a free Classic Pack every week upon your first victory! This is great for anyone trying to expand their collection!
