Hearthstone Arena Picks & Hearthstone Championship Tour Rules Update

There were some big arena changes in the last patch, and in an effort to improve these even further Blizzard has implemented some tweaks:

In Update 10.4, we rolled out some significant changes to the Arena. Now we’ve had a chance to see the effects they’re having and read your feedback.

We agree with the concern that many of you have expressed that there are slightly too many high powered cards appearing in Arena decks.

Based on that, we recently implemented two changes to Arena picks via hotfix:

• Legendary picks now appear less often.
• Below average picks will now appear more often.

We’re planning to keep a close eye on how these changes affect the Arena experience, so please let us know what you think.

Thanks for your continued feedback, and we’ll see you in the tavern!

Along with those tweaks, there was an announcement made that has implications for Legend ranked players that are hoping to get some of those HCT points. This update for March is because of the Ranked Play problems they experienced after the changes to the ladder.

With the season roll at the start of March 2018, significant updates were made to Hearthstone’s Ranked Play system that affected its core functionality. Unfortunately, several unexpected issues were introduced with these updates that resulted in us temporarily disabling Ranked Play mode.

While these issues have been resolved, we found that some players who were high in Legend ranking have chosen to stop playing in an attempt to maintain their high ranking. We believe that this runs counter to the spirit of competition that we want for the Hearthstone Championship Tour.

For the March 2018 Ranked Play season, we will be adding a requirement to play a minimum of 30 Ranked Standard games in a region to earn Hearthstone Competitive Points from that ranking. We encourage all Hearthstone Championship Tour hopefuls to resume active participation in Ranked Standard games. Thank you for your continued support of Hearthstone esports.

Good thing, the average power level of an Arena deck was really too high. A deck that could easily get to 12 wins before the change was average now. I had the most insane Arena draft ever and I only went 10-3 (and trust me, that would be easy 12-0 or 12-1 before) – after 5 wins I’ve faced other bonkers decks every time. Lost one game to Paladin draft with 3 Tarims, lol.

Agreed. I had a paladin arena run where I had two Tirion, Rag the Lightlord, and two Tarim. It felt like cheating.
