Machinima’s Deck Wars Season 1 Finale Decks and Live Results – Day 2

This is the final day of Machinima’s Deck Wars Season 1 finale, and after a great grouping of players, upsets, and matches we’re left with a strong group of players: ek0p, Forsen, TidesofTime, Kungen, Admirable, and StrifeCro.

Day 2 starts off with a round robin format that features two groups: Group A (ek0p, Forsen, TidesofTime) and Group B (Kungen, Admirable, StrifeCro). Each group consists of three player which play each other in best of 5 matches. The person with the most wins will move on to the finals from that group. The final match will be a best of 7 that will reward the 1st place finisher with $1,000 and the 2nd place finisher wins a prize of $500.

ek0p vs. TidesofTime

Game 1

ek0p – Midrange Shaman vs. TidesofTime – Control Warrior

Ek0p controls the board throughout the game, and Tides can’t seem to clear the board long enough to get any momentum going. Tides is forced to take out an Azure Drake with his Leeroy, but next turn ek0p draws the second Rockbiter Weapon and uses his Doomhammer to finish off Tides.

Result: ek0p Wins (1 – 0)

Game 2

ek0p – Midrange Shaman vs. TidesofTime – Miracle Rogue

Ek0p controls the board early, but turn five is Tides taking over the board by going off a bit with Gadgetzan Auctioneer. Ek0p quickly uses Hex on the Auctioneer before it gets too out of hand. Tides draws into his second Gadgetzan on turn 6, but he doesn’t have a lot of spells in hand to really get much draw off of it. Tides could not come up with much out of his Auctioneers, he is literally going to be forced to midrange his opponent down at this point. Tides gets down an 8/8 Edwin VanCleef and that might be the momentum he needs to take this game. Ek0p can’t deal with the VanCleef and Tides takes him out with Leeroy Jenkins.

Game 3

ek0p – HandLock vs. TidesofTime – Miracle Rogue

Ek0p unable to mount much offense, but Tides doesn’t have the burst to take down ek0p. Ek0p just keeps getting bad draws, and a Mountain Giant hits the board, but Tides has lethal in his hand. Tides able to finish off ek0p and that puts him into a bad position for next game.

Result: TidesofTime Wins (2 – 1)

Game 4

ek0p – Ramp Druid vs. TidesofTime – Miracle Rogue

Ek0p in a bad position on turn 7 after Tides went off with Auctioneer, and he’s looking like he won’t have much of a way out of this position. Ek0p throws down an Ancient of War, but it eats two Eviscerate and is eating more damage from Tides’ board. Ek0p can’t do anything against the Miracle Rogue and is forced to give up.

Result: TidesofTime Wins (3 – 1)

Group B

Kungen vs. Admirable

Game 1

Kungen – HandLock vs. Admirable – Midrange Shaman

Admirable starts taking down the health of Kungen quickly, and before you know it Kungen is at 4 health. Kungen able to stabalize a bit with a taunted Molten Giant and Ironbeak Owl. Admirable takes him to 1 with a Fire Elemental to the face, and Kungen is ONE AWAY FROM LETHAL! Admirable is able to finish Kungen off with a Fire Elemental the next turn!

Result: Admirable Wins (1 – 0)

Game 2

Kungen – Miracle Rogue vs. Admirable – Midrange Shaman

Admirable putting on the pressure again, and Kungen is on turn 6 without an Auctioneer. Kungen misplays a bit by using a second Deadly Poison to clear away a Spirit Wolf. He does get out an 8/8 Edwin VanCleef on the board, and Admirable is without a Hex. The VanCleef gets cleared by a Flamgetongue buffed Fire Elemental, and Kungen draws his auctioneer, but without many spells to use with it. Admirable pushes for lethal on the next turn bringing Kungen down to 6. Kungen gets a timely Blade Flurry that clears Admirable’s board. Admirable top decks a Lightning Storm which helps clear the board, but he’s out of cards in hand and is top decking. Kungen was on the brink of defeat, but he came back and steals the game!

Game 3

Kungen – Miracle Rogue vs. Admirable – Miracle Rogue

Both go off with their Auctioneers in the midgame and they’re both fairly even. Admirable able to take down Kungen to 10 with a couple Eviscerates and a Deadly Poisoned dagger. Kungen isn’t able to take out Admirable and he heals himself back up to 10 with an Earthen Ring Farseer. Admirable doesn’t have lethal either! There’s a bit of a slow duel back and forth just waiting to draw into lethal. Admirable tries desperately tries to draw the lethal, but draws the Leeroy Jenkins one draw too late. Kungen finally able to finish off Admirable with a Leeroy of his own.

Result: Kungen Wins (2 – 1)

Game 4

Kungen – Miracle Rogue vs. Admirable – Midrange Druid

Admirable starts off with a bad hand, but quickly he’s able to recover with a timely Innervate draw. Kungen doesn’t have great answers for Admirable’s board, but he’s able to draw a bunch of cards off of Auctioneer and follow it up the next turn with more card draw. Kungen overdraws a bit and burns an Azure Drake. Kungen able to burst down Admirable and has lethal but the timer runs out! Admirable decides to concede regardless, stating that Kungen had lethal so he accepted the loss.

Result: Kungen Wins (3 – 1)

Admirable vs. StrifeCro

Game 1

Admirable – Midrange Druid vs. StrifeCro – Miracle Rogue

Admirable is able to keep on curve and dropping minions on every turn that StrifeCro is being forced to deal with. Admirable heals himself back up to 30 and is looking fairly strong, but eats a Cold Blood buffed Azure Drake and an Auctioneer to the face bringing him back down to near lethal. Admirable gets a couple taunts, but StrifeCro still plays so efficiently and ends up being able to take down Admirable with Leeroy Jenkins.

Result: StrifeCro Wins (1 – 0)

Game 2

Admirable – Miracle Rogue vs. StrifeCro – Miracle Rogue

A lot of just typical Miracle Rogue trading back and forth, but it looks like Admirable is getting the better of the draws early on. Admirable starts going off with an Auctioneer and this is bad for Strife as he hasn’t drawn into his Auctioneer by turn 7. Strife is starting to take a lot of damage to the face and still can’t find the Auctioneer. Still not draw for Strife and it looks like Admirable is going to take this one with a Leeroy Jenkins.

Result: Admirable Wins (1 – 1)

Game 3

Admirable – Miracle Rogue vs. StrifeCro – Watcher Druid

Strife gets out a taunted Ancient Watcher early, but Admirable is able to sap it and starts pressing the action with a Cold Blood buffed Si:7 Agent. Admirable is continually just dumping his hand in an attempt to burn down StrifeCro. Strife takes a big risk at 10 health by removing an Azure Drake with an Argent Commander and leaving himself open to a Leeroy into Shadowstep combo. Admirable doesn’t draw the damage he needs and Strife is able to win it with Savage Roar! That was a very tense game!

Result: StrifeCro Wins (2 – 1)

Game 4

Admirable – Midrange Shaman vs. StrifeCro – Watcher Druid

Admirable makes a questionable choice of using a Hex early on a Harvest Golem. Admirable continues to push the damage and gets Strife to 11, and Strife doesn’t have a great answer to Admirable’s board. Strife forced to use a Force of Nature to clear the board, and riskily takes more damage to the face. Admirable doesn’t get the top deck win and clears Strife’s board. Strife with nerves of steel continues to use his Hero Power to clear minions, and he’s finally forced to heal with an Ancient of Lore. Strife is in control, but just can’t put Admirable away. Wow, and Admirable comes back into the game with some decent draws! Strife draws an Innervate in a horrible spot and that allows Admirable to really take control! Another dead draw for Strife and that seals it for Admirable! What a comeback!

Game 5

Admirable – Midrange Shaman vs. StrifeCro – Midrange Shaman

A lot of struggle for board control early on, but Admirable is getting the better of it. Turn 7 comes and Strife is at 30 and Admirable is at 29. Admirable is getting a lot of value and he’s heavily in control of the board. Strife’s only playing one Lightning Storm and it is the card he needs right now. Strife is in a lot of trouble at 14 health, and Admirable is way ahead on the board. A Lightning Bolt hits Admirable’s hand and he’s able to take out StrifeCro with it.

Result: Admirable Wins (3 – 2)

StrifeCro vs. Kungen

Game 1

StrifeCro – Miracle Rogue vs. Kungen – HandLock

Kungen able to get a Twilight Drake and an Ancient Watcher taunted on turn 5. Strife starts going off with the Auctioneer and he clears the board and goes right after Kungen with a Cold Blood on the Gadgetzan. Kungen is able to take out the Auctioneer with a Big Game Hunter and gets down his first Molten Giant. Strife could be staring down a ton of damage by passing with the Giant still on the board. Kungen does have the damage to finish off Strife and down goes the Miracle Rogue.

Result: Kungen Wins (1 – 0)

Game 2

StrifeCro – Midrange Shaman vs. Kungen – HandLock

Strife controls the board early on, and uses Hex on the Mountain Giant that comes down. Kungen clears some of the board with a Hellfire. Strife gets down the Feral Spirits, but his next turn is overloaded. Kungen gets a double Ancient Watcher and taunts them with Sunfury Protector. Strife is able to clear the board with a Lightning Storm and a Lightning Bolt. Kungen gets down a Mountain Giant and a Twilight Drake with taunt from his Defender of Argus. Strife is able to clear the board with an Earth Shock and a Fire Elemental and his Chillwind Yeti. Kungen has an Alexstrasza and he takes Strife to 15, but Kungen doesn’t seem to have the damage on his following turn to take out StrifeCro. Strife doesn’t draw into anything that can save him, and Kungen is able to win with a Leeroy Jenkins.

Game 3

StrifeCro – Watcher Druid vs. Kungen – HandLock

Strife puts the pressure on early and is able to deal with a lot of what Kungen puts out on the board. Kungen forced to keep healing himself out of trouble, but he’s running out of answers. StrifeCro is able to finish him with the Force of Nature combo!

Result: StrifeCro Wins (1 – 2)

Game 4

StrifeCro – Watcher Druid vs. Kungen – Miracle Rogue

Strife trying to apply pressure early, but Kungen’s able to deal with it by using a Deadly Poison and healing himself with an Earthen Ring Farseer. Kungen can’t seem to get an Auctioneer and is paying for it by eating damage and losing minions. Strife setting himself for a follow-up lethal, but Kungen is able to prevent it. Strife keeps taking out the board, and Kungen is not able to get any draw going. Strife uses his Savage Roar and that finishes off Kungen!

Result: StrifeCro Wins (2 – 2)

Game 5

StrifeCro – Watcher Druid vs. Kungen – Control Warrior

Kungen’s getting some early stuff on the board, but Strife is drawing a lot of cards that are hitting his curve perfectly. Strife is in control of the board, but Kungen has a Sylvanas on the board. Kungen makes a huge misplay, by using Whirlwind to take his own Sylvanas out, which takes an Argent Commander but he also had played a Baron Geddon which immediately killed his newly stolen Argent Commander. Kungen plays an Alexstrasza, but it isn’t enough and StrifeCro takes it with a Force of Nature!

Result: StrifeCro Wins (3 – 2)

GRAND FINALS: TidesOfTime vs. ThatsAdmirable

The Grand Finals are a Best of 7 Series!

Each player gets the option bring in a secret deck, whether this is a fourth deck or one of their previous decks.

Game 1

Admirable – Miracle Rogue vs. TidesOfTime – Miracle Rogue

Pretty calm early in the game, just the slow trade of daggers back and forth before we get to Gadgetzan Auctioneer value turn 5+. Admirable has to Sap back Tides’ Auctioneer, but Tides is able to use an Assassin’s Blade with Deadly Poison to take out Admirable’s Auctioneer. Tides sets up a next turn lethal, and Admirable is one damage or one mana away from lethal of his own! Tides finishes off Admirable with Shadowstep into Leeroy and a big Blade Flurry.

Result: TidesOfTime Wins (1 – 0)

Game 2

Admirable – Midrange Druid vs. TidesOfTime – Miracle Rogue

Tides is able to take out early minions from Admirable, but he has no Auctioneer and nothing particularly great in his hand. Turn 5, and he gets his Auctioneer, but opts to play an Azure Drake because he’s lacking spells. Turn 7 is when Tides gets the value off his Auctioneer, and he clears the board. Admirable is able to clear off the Auctioneer, but Tides has the second one in hand and he’s able to start getting draw off of it while dealing damage to the Druid. Tides gets more value out of the Auctioneer and he gets out a 10/10 VanCleef. Tides finishes off Admirable with the VanCleef and a Leeroy Jenkins.

Game 3

Admirable – Midrange Shaman vs. TidesOfTime – Miracle Rogue

Admirable keeps trying to gain more control of the board, but Tides is able to keep clearing it away with spells and his Assassin’s Blade. Admirable gambles by not playing Hex on a 6/6 VanCleef, and it burns him badly because of a Conceal by Tides. Admirable gets Feral Wolves on the board, and taunts up his Fire Elemental, but an Assassin’s Blade, Deadly Poison, and a Blade Flurry destroys Admirable’s board and he’s finished off with the VanCleef!

Game 4

Admirable – Miracle Rogue vs. TidesOfTime – Miracle Rogue

Admirable had the option to bring back a deck or another deck that hadn’t been played and decides to bring back his own Miracle Rogue. The typical trades back and forth in the beginning. Admirable is searching for his Auctioneer, but Tides already has his at the ready. Admirable gets a 8/8 VanCleef on the board in hopes that Tides can’t deal with it. Tides goes off a bit with his Auctioneer, but he can’t come up with a way to deal with the VanCleef. Tides takes the VanCleef down to 2, but Admirable is able to heal it with a Earthen Ring Farseer. Tides down to 13, but Blade Flurry is able to help clear the board for him. Admirable is low on cards with no Auctioneer in sight. Admirable draws a dead Conceal, and Tides finishes him off and takes this tournament in dominant fashion!
