Hearthstone – The History of the Meta

This is a pretty cool video about the previous decks and cards that dominated the meta and had to be nerfed at one point or another. The video introduced me to a card I hadn’t heard of previously: Envenom.

envenom

This was especially powerful because Rogue’s Weapon used to be: Equip a 1/2 Dagger, or Give Your Weapon +1 Attack. Rogue’s weapon was eventually altered to be what it is today, and Envenom was removed from the game (probably morphed into Deadly Poison). Other cards and decks have felt the power of the nerf as well:

Freeze Mage

Mage’s eventually got a wide sweeping nerf that increased their Freeze spells by one mana, and Pyroblast was nerfed from 8 mana to 10.

OTK Hunter

Unleash the Hounds used to read: Give your beasts +1 Attack and Charge. Unleash was then completely changed to what it is today but with two mana. That was again nerfed to 3 mana, only to have the Starving Buzzard change to a 3/2, 5 mana card.

What’s next? The video doesn’t say, but I have to imagine that Undertaker will be given a hard look.
