Hearthstone 34.2 Patch Notes – Events and Features

Blizzard just dropped 34.2 patch notes, and they are so huge that they decided to split them into two parts. In this part, they talk about new in-game events, Tavern Brawls, and cosmetics. You can check out the other part here.

First let’s start with new features/QoL stuff. The most important one is definitely Signature Cards Tooltip toggle. Players will now have a choice between four options – “Never Show Text”, “Favor Art”, “Favor Text” (Default), and “Always Show Text”. That’s right – Signature cards are getting card text, and you will be the one deciding whether you want to see it. Sadly the options weren’t explained well in the patch notes – “Never Show Text” and “Always Show Text” are, of course, self-explanatory, but I’m not sure in what situations the “Favor Art” vs “Favor Text” will come into action.

Blizzard also outlined three upcoming events – “Welcome to the Neighborhood” (December 3-10), The Rafaams of Winter Veil (December 10-31), and Happy New Year (December 31 – January 13). All of the events feature regular rewards like card packs, Tavern Tickets, Battlegrounds Tokens, but also a few special ones.

“Welcome Home!” is a new Neutral Epic spell players can get from the event starting this Wednesday (which is an event to celebrate the addition of Housing in WoW). Then there’s a new Paladin Legendary card “Runi, Temporal Guardian” from the next event (Rafaams of Winter Veil). Sadly, patch notes don’t specify what the card does, but we won’t have to wait long to find out. The event will also give players a new Timethief Rafaam Warlock Hero skin. And finally, the Happy New Year event will once again feature random unowned skins as rewards (this time lite and full skin from Year of the Pegasus). It will also be the first event in history offering some Gold as extra reward for Quest completion.

Players will also be able to participate in two new Tavern Brawls soon. First one is Dual-Class Brawliseum, which is, well, not EXACTLY new – it combines the quite recent Dual-Class Brawl with the “Brawliseum” format (the lite version up to 6 wins, not the full version up to 12 wins). As usual, I assume that the first entry will be free, and further ones will cost players two Tavern Tickets (300 Gold). The second Brawl sounds very funny, because you build a deck FOR YOUR OPPONENT from a curated pool of Standard and Wild cards. Both players start at 10 mana, an extra card draw each turn, and with some of the most terrible decks imaginable.

And finally, Blizzard outlined the upcoming shop inclusion, particularly “Darkmoon Faire Treasures”. Mythic Turalyon skin (for Paladin and Priest), Signature Timethief Rafaam and Mythic Yogg-Saron skin (for Mage and Warlock) will be the next three headliners. The last one was already available earlier in China, but it was for some reason missing from the other servers. As you can see, Blizzard shows no signs of stopping, so I’m pretty sure that at this point we can surmise that the gacha is selling very well and we’ll see it non-stop from now on. I’m obviously not happy about it, but I’m quite sure that trying to fight against it is pretty pointless. Players have decided that they like the system enough for it to be profitable.

On a more interesting note, Blizzard is finally going to utilize the “Just For You” tab for regular Hearthstone. For the next four weeks, you will see two unowned skins (one lite and one full) from a specific pool you can purchase if you missed it before. The pool includes some skins from recent expansion Tavern Passes and shop bundles. I hope that this is just a test run and they will introduce a system similar to Battlegrounds, where new cosmetics that you have previously missed are rotated in on a regular basis.

Learn more about all of that in the blog post below. Also check out the other part of the patch notes that talks about a massive Battlegrounds update as well as gameplay/QoL stuff and Arena.

Patch 34.2 launches tomorrow with updates for Battlegrounds, Arena, bug fixes, gameplay improvements, events, and features. This is a large patch, so to better spotlight all the new content, we’re splitting the patch notes into two blogs. This post covers upcoming events and new features.
