Demon Minions, Heroes and Compositions Strategy Guide – Hearthstone Battlegrounds

Our Demon minion and composition guide goes through everything you need to know about the Demon tribe in Hearthstone Battlegrounds! This guide will teach you when and how to use Demons in your warband in Battlegrounds!

Introduction to Demons

Demons are a mid-tier tribe in Hearthstone Battlegrounds. They can be strong and win games, but you need to find the right pieces early to truly make them shine, as they are not a composition you can transition into for the late game only.

The key minions to building a Demon warband are Wrath Weaver and Soul Juggler. The most common way to pursue a Demon warband is that you come up with an early Wrath Weaver and a Demon and you start to grow your Wrath Weaver from there. Soul Juggler can be added to the mix later, or the Wrath Weaver board can be focused on huge minions only. Alternatively, you can have several Demon tokens together with Soul Juggler, even if you are not able to grow a huge Wrath Weaver.

If you get a good opener, Demons are strong in the early-game and mid-game, but they tend to become weaker in the late game, where the pure stats of Wrath Weaver and the small pings from Soul Juggler are unable to fight against huge stats and Poisonous minions.

Demons and Demon-related Minions in Hearthstone Battlegrounds

Tier 1

Wrath Weaver is not a Demon, but it is the most crucial piece of most Demon compositions. It grows stronger each time you play a Demon, and therefore it can snowball into a huge minion over the course of the game.

Vulgar Homunculus has the most stats of any tier one minion in the game, but it comes with the downside of dealing damage to your Hero. It is mostly useful in the early game with Wrath Weaver, which usually makes it a weak turn one pick even for a Demon composition as you do not have a Wrath Weaver to buff at that point. However, if you are playing as Lord Jaraxxus, any Demons you can pick up early are good for you.

Fiendish Servant is not particularly strong on turn one, but it can help buff up your Wrath Weaver and grow into a powerful minion for Lord Jaraxxus.

Selfless Hero deserves a mention even though it is not a Demon. The ability to give your huge minions Divine Shield can be highly valuable, and Selfless Hero is found in many successful Demon compositions later in the game.

Tier 2

Imprisoner is a strong early-game minion. It helps to protect your other minions and has an especially strong early synergy with Soul Juggler thanks to its Demon-summoning Deathrattle effect.

Nathrezim Overseer rarely stays on your board for long, but it can buff up your other Demons and your Wrath Weaver, and can stay for a while in the early game.

Tier 3

Soul Juggler is a key minion in many Demon warbands. Especially the golden version can deal huge amounts of damage with some Demon Deathrattle minions, such as Imprisoner and Voidlord.

Imp Gang Boss can help you activate Soul Juggler in the mid-game, but it is generally too weak to stay on the board for long.

Crystalweaver can buff your Demon board for some additional stats. As it is not a Demon itself, it cannot buff Wrath Weaver.

Tier 4

Siegebreaker is a relatively well-statted Taunt minion for the mid-game, but it is difficult to grow it to a huge threat and it lacks the ability to summon even more Demons for use with Soul Juggler. A decent minion, but something you look to replace fairly soon most of the time.

Floating Watcher can become one of your biggest minions, but it is only useful when you have at least one Wrath Weaver. Furthermore, you need to find Floating Watcher as early as possible to give it time to grow. It is great when it works, but the timing and conditions have to be just right.

Tier 5

Voidlord is often a key piece of Demon compositions because of its incredible synergy with both Soul Juggler and Mal’Ganis.

Mal’Ganis gives all your other Demons a buff and allows your Wrath Weavers to grow without damaging you. As a downside, it also prevents your Floating Watcher from growing further as you take no damage on your turn. It is a good minion, especially if you have multiple Wrath Weavers, but it is not used in all Demon warbands.

Annihilan Battlemaster can have incredible amounts of Health, especially in combination with Brann Bronzebeard. With most Demon compositions focusing on Wrath Weavers and Soul Jugglers, it is not very common right now, but it can still be strong in the right composition, especially if you are able to buff up its Attack and give it Taunt.

Tier 6

Imp Mama can provide you with a significant supply of additional Demons and it works incredibly well with Soul Juggler.

Amalgadon is a terrific late-game minion for all compositions, and Demons are no exception. It can be a Poisonous Taunt minion with Divine Shield and truly change the course of any game.

Heroes With the Best Demon Synergies

Any Hero can succeed with any tribe, and many of the most powerful Heroes can use almost all tribes with a high rate of success. However, some Heroes have a greater affinity to specific tribes, and Demons are no exception.

Lord Jaraxxus is the main Demon synergy Hero in the game. When you play as Lord Jaraxxus, forcing Demons in your only real option to succeed. Lord Jaraxxus is more flexible when it comes to your Demon composition than other Heroes: simply getting any Demons early in the game and growing them with your Hero Power is a viable path as Lord Jaraxxus.

Reno Jackson has multiple ways to succeed with Demons. An early golden Wrath Weaver or a mid-game golden Soul Juggler can form the core of a powerful Demon warband.

George the Fallen can succeed with several compositions, Demons being one of the better ones for the Hero. One of the main weaknesses of Demons is their lack of Divine Shield and therefore vulnerability to poison, and George can provide your huge minions Divine Shield to improve their survivability.

Millhouse Manastorm is good at building a large warband early in the game, and should you be offered a Wrath Weaver and some Demons, you can quickly snowball the power level of your warband as Millhouse.

Deathwing is often more closely associated with Beasts, but the mid-game Deathrattle Demons and Soul Jugglers are also a great fit for the Hero.

Captain Hooktusk can use her Hero Power to look for Wrath Weavers in the early game, and finding some of those can lead to a strong Demon composition.

When and How to Use Demons in the Early Game

You rarely decide to go with Demons on turn one: the main exceptions are when you are playing as Lord Jaraxxus and start forcing Demons right from the start, or when you are playing as Reno Jackson and you’re offered a Wrath Weaver and another Demon on turn one, in which case you may buy the Wrath Weaver and make it Golden and freeze the other Demon to be bought on the following turn.

Other than that, a typical path to early Demons is when you’re offered Wrath Weaver and a Demon on turn two or turn three, in which case you may freeze them as necessary and buy them on turn three.

Overall, going for Demons early is dependent on finding Wrath Weaver alongside a Demon. If both of them are not available, you are better off going for some other composition.

An example of early game for a Demon player:

Turn 1: Alleycat, Tabbycat

Turn 2: Upgrade your Tavern, freeze the offered Wrath Weaver and Demon.

Turn 3: Sell Tabbycat, buy Wrath Weaver and a Demon.

When and How to Use Demons in the Mid-Game

There are two main paths to go for Demons in the mid-game: either you find Soul Juggler with some suitable Demons, especially Imprisoner, or you stumble upon Wrath Weaver together with Floating Watcher. Wrath Weaver compositions typically take more time to grow and are difficult to transition to later in the game, whereas Soul Juggler compositions can be transitioned into quite quickly if you find some Deathrattle Demons.

If you started with an early-game Wrath Weaver, your mid-game consists of an attempt to make it bigger and find a Floating Watcher to go alongside it. If your health total starts to get low, you need to try to find Mal’Ganis to enable you to keep playing Demons with the Wrath Weaver on the board.

If your key minion is Soul Juggler, you are looking for Imprisoner, Voidlord, and Mal’Ganis to get as many Demons on the board as possible.

Examples of mid-game Demon boards:

Big minions: Selfless Hero, Floating Watcher, Wrath Weaver, Wrath Weaver, miscellaneous and Demon minions (Vulgar Homunculus, Imprisoner)

Tokens: Imprisoner, Imprisoner, Vulgar Homunculus, Wrath Weaver, Wrath Weaver, Soul Juggler, Soul Juggler

When and How to Use Demons in the Late Game

Demons are not a tribe you want to transition into in the late game. You can improve your existing Demon board all the way to the end, but building Demons from scratch is not something you want to do at that stage of the game.

Imp Mama and Amalgadon are major improvements to any Demon board: Imp Mama gives you random Demons with Taunt that can help your key minions survive and give Soul Juggler more ammunition, whereas Amalgadon can become a big minion with Poisonous, Divine Shield, and Taunt that can destroy key minions from your opponent.

Late-game Demons may also need Selfless Hero to help your huge minions survive against Poisonous opponents.

Examples of late-game Demon boards:

Big minions: Mal’Ganis, Selfless Hero, Wrath Weaver, Floating Watcher, Wrath Weaver, Wrath Weaver, Baron Rivendare

Demons and poison: Selfless Hero, Maexxna, Maexxna, Floating Watcher, Wrath Weaver, Annihilan Battlemaster, Annihilan Battlemaster

Tokens: Imprisoner, Wrath Weaver, Voidlord, Mal’Ganis, Imp Mama, Imp Mama, Soul Juggler

Is there a way to quickly find these on the site? I want to re-read all of these guides.

Very good read, especially the warband examples. Great work!

The only thing I’d like to mention is the early game example … which is more like the ‘perfect early game’. 😉

This is awesome. Demons are by far the hardest class for me.
