Mulligan Guide

General

Aluneth is so good in the midgame it's often worth it to just keep it early. Explosive Rune has basically no downside and is really op on turns 2-5 since you always get either an efficient mana trade or valuable face damage. Primordial glyph is super versatile and synergizes with apprentice or wyrm. Arcanologist is a solid 2-drop that can get you explosive rune or mirror entity for a good turn 3 play. Frostbolt is great for damage control against aggro so you can avoid getting too low before getting tempo back. Mana wyrm+kabal lackey self-explanatory

Vs. Aggro

definitely don't want aluneth against aggro, but valet is great for getting the board under control.

Against meme hunter, try to avoid explosive rune and mirror entity since they're useless except as valet triggers until DK comes out.


Deck Description

A lowered-mana-curve version of the old secret mage archetype featuring the new fatigue-inducing 5 star card Aluneth.

Changes from previous expansion:

Includes Lackey for op starts and to prevent overdrawing due to Aluneth.

Includes Kabal Crystal Runner as another free card to prevent overdrawing along with just being a great card for secret mage

Cut 1-of Meteor and Blizzard along with the 2 water elementals- they clash with Aluneth by being too expensive and not providing burn value like firelands.

Cut 1 mirror entity, 1 firelands, and medivh for Aluneth, Explosive Runes: Losing meteor, blizzard, and a firelands really hurts medivh's value and explosive fits great in this deck.

Gameplan:

  1. Do secret mage cheese to get board control if possible (mana wyrm, kabal lackey+valet, or sorcerer's apprentice+frostbolt are great here). If you can't, it's not that big of a deal because of the 5 star weapon
  2. Try to keep board while smorcing: kirin tor, crystal runner and other high-value cards are key here especially explosive rune, which helps you accomplish both goals at once.
  3. Burn opponent: Whether it's through Aluneth, arcane intellect, or good draws, draw fireballs, frostbolts, firelands, and medivh's valet and shoot opponent until they die. If you get aluneth early enough you can also use crystal runners and a swarm of cheap minions and discounted spells to win here too.
