Blizzard just posted the usual roundup of the upcoming pre-release Community Events for CATACLYSM set. But this time, we have something extra – teaser of the expansion patch coming on March 10.
In Patch 35.0, we’re gonna get some balance changes for cards that are still staying in Standard (like the promised Elise the Navigator nerfs). Normally 35.0 patch notes should drop about a week before the expansion, but this time the theorycrafting streams start in just a couple of days and they are (obviously) played on Patch 35.0. Since all of those changes would be out of the bag anyway, Blizzard decide to just post them here. And here they are:
Elise the Navigator – All the Locations now have 2 Durability (down from 3), nerfs to Raptors, Copy and Deathrattle effects.
Blob of Tar – It’s now a 5 mana 4/4 that summons 2/2’s on Deathrattle (down from 4 mana 2/4 that summons 1/2’s). So it sounds like it still might be viable as a standalone card, but it will no longer work with Ravenous Felhunter.
Other than that, we also got some more detailed info about other events we already knew about – Theorycrafting livestreams I’ve already mentioned, but also Pre-Release Brawl and Community Days.
In particular, we have a full list of sets for Pre-Release Brawl. Unsurprisingly, available expansions are ATT + CATACLYSM, but what’s important to note is that the Core and Event Set are from the current rotation (not post-rotation ones, I guess that would be difficult to do given that they only rotate on expansion). Also there’s a quite long list of banned cards, including… all the ATT Legendaries and Echoes of the Infinite mini-set Imbue cards.
Oh, and one more interesting thing is that there’s a special card back reward for going 6-0 – which is honestly a really solid feat, but probably still easier than the 12 wins Heroic Brawl skin we had a while back.

Balance Preview for Patch 35.0 (coming March 10)
Rounding things out, we have a handful of balance changes coming to Standard with Patch 35.0. These updates will be active during our Theorycrafting and Pre‑Release Tavern Brawl events. They are in addition to our usual balance adjustments for cards rotating into Wild. Keep an eye out for the full 35.0 Patch Notes for details on those changes.
Dev Comment: To give Deathwing the truly cataclysmic entrance he deserves, we are dialing back a few standout cards from previous expansions to raze the established meta and make room for new cards and strategies. Elise the Navigator is receiving the most significant updates across her kit, and Ursine Maul is also receiving a notable reduction in power, while the rest of the balance changes are on the lighter side. Our goal is for these cards to take a step back in the meta rather than disappear from it entirely. We hope you enjoy trying out the new cards in this refreshed landscape as we kick off a new year of Hearthstone!
Elise the Navigator
All locations’ Durability: 3 → 2
Bursting Geyser (Deathrattle: Deal X damage to all enemies.)
1-Cost location (Un’goro Jungle): 1/1 copy → Radiant Crystals can no longer be selected on the 1-Cost location
Blob of Tar
Old: [4 mana] 2/4. Deathrattle: Summon a 1/2 Blob with Poisonous and a 1/2 Blob with Taunt.
New: [5 mana] 4/4. Deathrattle: Summon a 2/2 Blob with Poisonous and a 2/2 Blob with Taunt.
Dev Comment: While neutral outliers were a focus in this patch, we still believe there’s an important place for strong mid‑game defensive tools like Blob of Tar. We’re reducing its overall power and breaking up its repetitive play pattern with Ravenous Felhunter, while also providing a compensatory buff to support its board‑focused role. We’ll be keeping an eye on Felhunter as we evaluate its power level in a post‑rotation environment with fewer available targets.
Creature of Madness
Old: 1/2.
New: 1/1.
Prescient Slitherdrake
Old: 6/9.
New: 6/8.
