This card is like a double edged sword. You loose your hero power and make it worse but you get a great battlecry when the card is played 3.5/5 stars a spell with the battlecry effect would have been 4 stars.

Auto include in the yogg mage deck gotta love RNG based cards (keeps you on your toes) then there’s another thought. Why not run this in wild and get time warp it should allow you to trigger random spell twice.

Anyone complaining about an RNG themed meme deck has yet to get bored of making nothing but aggro and control decks.

Am I the only one to notice that his HP doesn’t have the usual “(targets chose randomly)” under the effect? This is on every other card, except for “scrolls of wonder”.

A random spell at the beginning of your turn is actually decent. It allows the player to recover from its detriments or build off of its buffs. I mean the battlecry in itself makes the card worth it. Its a better plague of death. Any control deck outside of wild (because lets face it Jaina is vital for control in wild) will run this in the deck.

Playing random spells is not considered control move. But his battlecry is.

The only time you want to play random spells is called desperate move. (since you can’t control anything, and hope for the best). like the last move to play Yogg-saron Puzzle Box.

Playing designated / known spells is equal Control.

a 10-mana Board Clear which doesn’t help you, since the enemy will start 1st with full mana.
    plus a 5 shield. So, basically, a 5/10 cards.
and to make thing worse, there’s no way to reduce this card mana.

even Kalecgos is still better when played, and it’s mana CAN be reduced.

we’re talking about mage cards no? not priest.

In mage, this card is pretty lame, not to be able to combo anything.

H0lysatan mage doesn’t have any large board clears besides frost nova, blizzard, and frame strike which can’t really “clear” the board. A 10 mana large board clear +5 armor might just make control mage viable.

            Let me share my point.
            here’s why it’s bad.
            1. A 10 mana board clear leaves you nothing on board.
            2. Enemy start with full mana next turn. (and low health means lethal, even with 5 armor)
            3. No means to reduce this card cost. Unlike Spells, or Dragon tribe.
            4. His hero power is random, means, you don’t always get what you want.
            5. There are very few situation where you need to absolutely need this. (e.g you’re left behind on tempo, and enemy has more than 4 high level minions).
            6. No synergy. (but it doesn’t matter)

here’s why Blizzard, or Flame Strike, or even any board clear is good. (freeze too)
            1. It’s combo-able. allowing you to put minion on board.
            2. It’s mana CAN be reduced, since it’s spells.
            3. It’s damage CAN be further raised in order to clear designated minions.
            4. Many variants of board clear.

So. back again. this card is at least 5/10.

actually they disappear, not die. so no resurrections. they don’t join that pool. like in other card games. remove from play not send to graveyard/discard pile. i assume

Hero power makes this card useless.. Enough with these RNG cards.. RNG deicide who wins no matter what.. Why i should play this card and lost the best hero power of the game?

Random mage is an art, not a science.

Now that we’ve seen the hero power, I’m…I don’t even know how to describe it.

I really hope Blizzard moves away from Casino Mage as a style of play in the coming year. I’m pretty much a dedicated Mage player, and so much of Mage’s design in this year’s sets has been focused on random spells and random minions that Mage has started to feel like Tavern Brawl: The Class.

The worst part of this is that the Battlecry is so strong, control-style Reno decks will almost certainly need to run it to compete, and then spend the rest of the game praying that they don’t get Pyroblast aimed at face.

Thank heavens someone put it into words. I’m all for memes in mage every once in a while and I’ll definitely be playing this, but can Blizzard get over the fear of another Frost Lich Jaina long enough to realize that Mage needed a far more competitive hero power than this?

Is it only mage spells? And is there clarification on the mechanics of the disappearing minions?

Any spell, just like Yogg etc. works.

And while it wasn’t explained precisely (like every single interaction), what I’ve gathered from dev Tweets / reddit comments is that the minion just disappears, it’s like it was never there. So their Deathrattles won’t trigger, and the minion won’t “die” (so won’t get added to Resurrect pool for example).

I’m NOT sure if its Battlecry gets revoked, like let’s say that you play Shudderwock – does it trigger its Battlecry? That’s something we don’t know yet.

        January 12, 2020 at 5:41 pm

I would assume battlecries don’t get revoked? Since you already played the card before it gets poofed, Shudderwock should still replay the battlecry I think.

Eh. “Cast random spell” effect where never actually good. Probably this card would be better with normal mage hero power. Mayby it can be valuable in realy late game. As Highlander Mage player i’m disapointed anyway.

I bet that the hero-power is one from the last adventure – which are just slightly more powerful than the standard hero power.

I’m so freakin’ hyped because I have the latest highlander mage deck and this should be a fine addition to my collection, plus it’s Reno and it feels good when a undermeta class like mage gets a great card

Must have a cool hero power otherwise 10mana is bad.

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      January 9, 2020 at 12:18 pm

To be fair, Plague of Death is a 9 mana board wipe that sees play, this costs only 1 mana more and comes with 5 Armor. So it doesn’t need to have a SICK Hero Power to be worth it, just a solid one (because if HP is bad then the card is probably also bad).

      • JoyDivision
        January 10, 2020 at 12:11 am

And there is actually not much difference (manawise) between 9 and 10. Because most of the time, the 1 mana is useless.

      • Goldenpantss
        January 10, 2020 at 1:18 am

I’ve just had a thought, does it mean ALL minions, like everywhere, in both decks and hands?

        • LegendaryBot
          January 10, 2020 at 1:23 am

No, probably not, it would be real OP

          January 12, 2020 at 5:47 pm

Plague of death reads “silence and destroy ALL minions” but it only targets minions on the board so by that logic, Reno’s effect should only poof minions on the board as well.

        January 11, 2020 at 7:26 pm

Yeah I think that the hero power should be a passive “add a random spell to your hand” instead of what it is

Maybe the Saviors of Uldum Adventure HP?

Is there a new hero power to it ?

    • Thanatos
      January 9, 2020 at 10:32 am

      Will they trigger deathrattles ?

      • D3str0
        January 9, 2020 at 10:44 am

Death rattle only triggers if the minions die, and since in this case they disappear I’m leaning towards no.

So basically this should work like the priest spell that silences and destroys all minions I guess.

        • Thanatos
          January 9, 2020 at 10:51 am

They could all get stealth… they would “dissapear”

          lol

        • Yakucho
          January 9, 2020 at 10:55 am

I think it will be more powerful than the priest spell, since dispear is not destroy so they don’t don’t add up to the ressurection pool.

            January 9, 2020 at 11:14 am

True. Didn’t take that into consideration but you are right.

I imagine it behaves like Plague of Death, with a fantastic amination, because it’s Reno!
