Flavor Text

Always the favorite of Headmaster Kel'Thuzad, Ras nonetheless received a chilly reception from the other faculty.

Without the buff it’s very close to Despicable Dreadlord, arguably better stat distribution + it hits heroes. And that was a good card. I don’t think this card will enable a successful Spell Damage deck (without way good support), but you can slot him into a value-focused Mage/Shaman deck that happens to run spell damage and he’ll be just fine.

I think this is legitimally fine, even if he gets to live for one turn. you combine him with Squallhunter, and if were to just look it like that It’s a “9 Mana 8/13: Battlecry: Dea 3 Damage to all Enemies (Overload (2))”, which is basically your second response version of The Lurker Below. If one wasn’t enough, why not two?

So you get to deal 3 Damage with Ras and Squall Hunter, and whenever Token hasen’t given up just yet, You can also use The Lurker Below. Now Obviously the only nitpick problem is realistically drawing your Ras and Squallhunter before it’s too late, but overall, I think that combo is really good as an Anti Swarm Board. Ras isn’t meant to be a card to just throw out there unless you have Wrath of Air, or if your Hand is overfill, (Which has happened to Shamans before.) So you need to treat it that bit left of Respect. Your Lightning Bolt is also 1 Mana, and you can either deal a total of 8 damage to the face but you sacrifice a hefty about of overload, so Respond with caution; or you can clear the little bit left of the board with Fork Lightning; A card that hasn’t been seen all that much, but you can deal 4 Damage to 2 random enemy minions, to add up to 7 damage to 2 minions. So you could even take down some of the bigger minions out there too, when you have the oppertunity.

It’s going to interesting and very flavourful as to what Shaman is going to be, and while I’m going to give it 5 Stars for the potential that It could give, (Since it’s easily Killable with spells and whatnot (Guardian Augmerchent comes in handy for protecting Ras or Squall.)), The Fact that Shaman is now officially licensed to clear the board from Tokens, to Treants, and even some Tempos out there, will make it so that way, Aggro Decks need to step upthier game if they ever want to win, before Turn 9. Once they see Ras and Squall, it’s all over for them. Same goes for Treant Druid. They may be fast and have an Army of Treaent, but if they can wait for Turn 10 for Netural Selection, They can Imidently flip the table over to where now Shaman has to be scared from Druid.

4 Stars. The only real nickpick I give to give off is that you can’t take down 4 Health Minions, which is the Sweetspot for the Majority of MInions. So if you want to take down EVIL Miscreant, or the now Failed Students that at least Warlock is going to try out, than your just out of luck.

*sees that it’s also a Mage Card*

I don’t think Mage would care that much for Ras unfortunately, even with Azure Explorer and Arcane Missiles for example. Ras would be even more Threaned to die, because he’s more way in the open. At least Squallhunter is a big beefy Magical Dragon, while Azure Explorer is used for Preparing for your next turn.

Kirin Tor Tricaster on the other hand, while it is sacrificial to punish yourself to spend 1 more mana for spells, you can actually clear the Majority of Minions becuase Mage can deal 4 Damage to all Enemies, and plus, you can always kill off Tricaster whenever needed. So whenever Mage needs or more Flamestrike, now they know the combo, even though I still think that Ras is a lot more suited for Shaman for now.

We’ll just have to see who truly loves Ras Frostwhisper.

Oh God the combo this has with master duelist in a rapid fire mage deck is scary especially if you discount your spells this card alone amplifies how big of a threat the master duelist is and puts far more reason to get it off the board as soon as possible. As for shaman this isn’t to bad and you could even run with totem deck since could clone the spell totem.

There’s no way that could ever work competitively, it’s a combo beyond memes and if you spend like 10 mana just to maybe get 5 spell damage and then hit for 5 once it’s not even worth it, you might as well just play the Master duelist and spam spells and the result is more or less the same with much less effort.

Your trying to imply that you have to play the two in the same turn but that’s not exactly true all you need is to use the other to build up some spell dmg it becomes a threat on its own and something like a frost mage could potentially lock it on the board a bit. There’s also potential in using the maeiev card to make it go dormant to protect it. Do far we haven’t seen to much of the cards revealed so your not able to completely toss out a potential plan until the last card is revealed.

That’s one thing that annoys me about this people mocking potential setups during the first few reveals then later cards get revealed that makes it possible.

Don’t worry. You can pull of your combo all you want in bronze.

And yet you can find YouTube videos of people with legend playing Meme decks trying to pull off weird win conditions that would never be used in a meta deck.

Nothing is funnier than beating a top tier deck with a meme.

Yeah u can basically win with t4 decks against t1 if u top deck everything but what are the chances? 5%?

Just going to point out now that there’s new cards being revealed that makes this bit more viable including one that could make this a 1 cost 1/1.

Never disregard a strategy until the last card is revealed and even then if doesn’t work in this rotation a card that enables it could appear in next.

With spell damage support this is a strong effect,
The main problem is the high mana cost, it comes too late to make an impact.

Even without spell damage, that’s good stats + effect for the cost. This into Azure Explorer/Squallhunter is a great combo, and cards like Solarian/Vashj just help it out even more.

    Just overrated card

A spell damage weapon would be neat, like a wand or something, otherwise this card is kinda mediocre.

How is this rated 4.5 stars? Wtf is people thinking?

Spell Damage never worked really well and this one is no exception. Sad, but (probably) true. It might look like a lot of potential, but running Squallhunter or Azure Explorer just to get a “At the end of your Turn deal 3 Damage to all enemies” for 9 Mana is not worth it. :/ Not with these terrible stats.

At first glance I thought it’s like Despicable Dreadlord and that was good back in KotFT, but it had Zoolock to fit into, Synergy with Bloodreaver Gul’dan and, you know, powercreep happens.

I’ll get you 10 English pence that this card will see play in shamen decks.

In fact I’ll bet you 5 English pence (I’m less confident of this ????) that they’ll be a card that lets shamen choose the totem they summon from hero power.

Spell damage shaman actually did work, and it was the best deck for MONTHS, until spirit claws were nerfed. This shows that with a good enough support card this archetype could see play. Now the question is whether this card is enough

      • PPAP
        July 25, 2020 at 1:35 pm

Amnesiac, for example, actually played kobold geomancer for the world championship (2016) and almost won the entire thing.

        July 26, 2020 at 4:54 am

Riiight 😀 This was before my time ^^ But it was mostly strong because Spirit Claws could do so much face damage, right? Ras is defenetly a control card, so a “Spell Damage Shaman” wouldn’t be anything like the one from 2016.

Re-Review: For mage, Spell Damage is terrible. Just as expected.
But Shaman is a diffrent story! With Rune Dagger as on-demand spell damage, Ras can reliably deal 2 damage to all enemies the turn he is played. With this upgrade I do see him in control Shaman, I do believe he will be strong there and I give him 4 stars for that.

Looking forward to the MarkMcKz youtube video of Ras doing a 30+ damage OTK + board clear… don’t want to play the 90 games where that deck looses horribly before pulling off the combo myself.

Seems to me like a Despicable Dreadlord with a better stat distribution and a potential upside. Sure, it lacks a tribe and times are different now, but that card was pretty neat without the demon synergies.
I like their style of having a bit more toned down legendaries for this set

  13. DeadlyBlinke
    July 25, 2020 at 10:52 am

Kinda awkward card but I like that it deals damage to all enemies. 3.5 stars maybe 4 if we get more cheap spell damage cards.

  14. Percival
    July 25, 2020 at 10:51 am

    Wow…

You play Raz and Mozaki on turn 10 after using Incanter’s flow to turn a bunch of 1-cost spells into zero-cost, and presto! You wipe the opponent’s board and do face damage to them EVERY TURN until Raz is removed. It’s like a scalable Ragnaros that does AOE over all enemies.

    5/5 – Can’t wait.

A bit too slow but I’m just glad that they didn’t make it 4 mana and give Even Shaman EVEN more tools to be Tier 1.
Maybe Shaman will get more spell power support? We’ll see.

Really cool control card that has a lot of potential. I have doubts whether it’ll work but I sure hope it does.

  20. Miendiesen
    July 25, 2020 at 10:24 am

Could be really strong if they add more support. I’m not sure Astromancer Solarian and Azure Explorer are quite enough.

      July 25, 2020 at 10:30 am

Same thoughts for Shaman. Neutral minion pool isn’t much help. Still have faith though… one more good spell damage minion anywhere could do it.

  21. Thraben
    July 25, 2020 at 10:12 am

How do you get spell damage without having minions that give it? This card will just kill all that… Absolute trash.

Unless there is a new spell that gives spell damage to Ras itself on top of the 1 mana minion… or a permanent spell damage passive or something.. Big oof.

2/5 at least you can deal 1 damage to all enemies like once or something. Yay…….

    • Thraben
      July 25, 2020 at 10:15 am

Nvm it doesn’t hit own things. Either way.. Not enough sources for spell damage. I don’t see this card being worth all the trouble.

        July 25, 2020 at 3:19 pm

11 neutral, 4 mage, 2 shaman cards and 1 totem. None are overwhelmingly good but there are quite a few spell damage sources.
