(Rating based on play it will see in the upcoming meta, similar to trump’s ratings)

    5 Stars

With warrior having the only infinite value hero card (other than Hagatha in shaman), warrior is already looking tier one. This is a card that is good on turn 4 (yeti stats) and disgusting on turn 10. Crowd roaster is run with lots of success in warrior as a very strong card already. 3 mana less for a card with an even stronger effect, that isn’t horribly bad if the effect doesn’t trigger. Its disgustingly strong, especially in a weaker meta (which is most likely to come).

5 Stars as an insane card in a tier 1 deck.

Nice. With this and mecha’thun in hand, two galvanizing bots make a 10 mana play. Could be a fun deck. Warrior has pretty decent draw given the right circumstances.

4 Mana 4/5: If It’s Late Game, do a better job then Crowd Roaster. You get to also use Crowd Roaster.

Strong at 10 mana obviously, but if you put it in your deck you have to expect you’ll often have to play this before 10 mana. Is there space for a 4 mana 4/5 in Control Warrior? I think so. Biggest competition I see for the 4-mana slot is Spellbreaker, and you could just run both.

That said, this can get super awkward to play at 10 mana. If you have a board and your opponent doesn’t and you need to push damage, you can only play this in exchange for roasting one of your own minions- something which I’m sure combo decks will try to exploit. 4/5

omega cards didn’t see much play. They were mainly arena players insta picks. This may be the first one to make it to constructed. its a nice addition to the mech archetype and you would happily pick this in your delivery drone. getting this on turn 10 from delivery drone makes dr bomm hero the best hero :D. And i thought that the 7 armor wasthe best, now it can be the second best.

Are you aware of Omega Assembly?

      • Minti
        March 22, 2019 at 4:27 am

yes you are correct. Although omega assembly is in every control or mech warrior deck already. If this had come in the boomsday expansion mech warrior was going to be usefull. Or at least if omega defender was a mech.

A full on Mech Warrior deck would still not have been viable if this were released in The Boomsday Project at least relative to Odd Warrior.
At most, there would have been one more reason to play a regular Control Warrior at the time, but this card by itself would not have improved that deck’s viability generally seeing as it really would not have helped it against aggression.

Howd on there bud. splashing a lich king does not make your full mech deck not full mech. And to be frank the odd hero power is something very powerfull and it felt like the dr boom hero power was a downgrade. Second off odd warrior was popular control archetype because of reckless flurry. and a sudden lack of low cost removal options. Although you can always use the old control tools that warrior never lost like doomsayers brauls shoeld slams and executes. All the mechs in boomsday came with mana cost 5 or 1 and very few 2 drops. The only good 3 drop mech was amalgam and its not that much of a control card. So the archetype felt quite incomplete. And now we are seing rush and dragon warriors getting descent values. Good things are happening with warriors.
And a copy of dead mans hand can make every deck with few descent legendary threats a good control deck. the abbility to run 2 lich kings in a deck basicly makes it control.

            To Minti

I’m confused as to what exactly you’re talking about to be honest. I never brought up the Lich King in either of my comments, and nor does playing the good mechs and their support cards in a Control warrior deck make it into a Mech Warrior deck.

Lots of cards didn’t see play because year of mammoth , dks and Baku glen was too strong. Things will change

    This card is really good.

Turn 10 being Dr. Boom: 4 mana destroy most minions AND deal 4 damage to a minion (because rush) AND if that minion happens to have 4 or less attack, you keep a 4 attack mech on board.

Sounds great for a 4 mana minion.

Now I wonder if every class will get it’s own Omega with Dr boom and assembly this doesn’t even need to be in your deck. Considering this can instant kill basically every late game minion every warrior will run a copy. It’s also not a bad late game Target for a zilliax 7/7 divine shield lifesteal taunt rush bubble at 9 Mana possibly killing 2 minions in 1 turn. So far I’d rate this as one of the top new cards. Like said every warrior will run at least one copy of this for late game removal at least.

Only Warrior is getting one as stated when the card was revealed.

Most likely, yes. If they keep printing ‘callback’ cards throughout the year, I think everyone will start feeling over-nostalgic.

          March 21, 2019 at 5:54 pm

Bruh. They’ve made it clear that callback cards are unique to this expansion, and more specifically that each EVIL class is only get one callback card that corresponds to the set their villain is from.

This card is just no good enough to see play. You don’t need removals in late game that much. What you want is to set up your win condition. 0/5

      March 21, 2019 at 12:24 pm

In a control mirror, a card that can double as removal AND a threat is invaluable.

Your opponent basically loses two cards at the cost of your one (this is normally referred to as a two for one trade), and if you can keep two-for-oning your opponent in an environment without infinite value (as April’s format will be), you will eventually out grind your opponet and win.

    • Lluadian
      March 21, 2019 at 12:24 pm

Your mocking a card in a class that runs 2 cards in late game that can generate this. Assembly gets run for late game value generation 3 random cards for 1 Mana and if have Dr boom they all have rush and this can be discovered by boom. There’s a lot of potential on this card just for body alone since it has a mech tag thereby opening it for magnetize. I’d say after rotation you’ll see more rush and dragon warrior and with Dr Boom all mechs have rush.

Lol, they actually used the initial Omega Defender card art, which they changed because it looked entirely like a mech but was tribeless

  13. Soup And Salad
    March 21, 2019 at 11:58 am

Yeah. Omega Devastator is probably doing to see a reasonable amount of play. Even if for whatever reason it isn’t actually in Warrior lists, Omega Assembly and Dr.Boom, Mad Genius will find this often enough.

A four mana 4/5 that almost certainly kills a minion when summoned after turn ten is obviously good. There’s not a whole lot else to say of the matter.

The only question left is will Warrior be in a place that can properly support a card like this? I personally think it will if a proper successor to Fiery War Ax or a board clearing effect to replace Reckless Flurry have yet to be revealed.

      March 21, 2019 at 10:14 pm

tbh Warrior is getting to the point where it has too much good removal. Odd warrior had plenty of removal and since that’s not gonna be viable in standard anymore, it means cards like warpath and execute will find their way into control warrior. if Omega Defender were to be included it would likely replace another good removal card.
Personally i think it will just be a card to get from Dr Boom or Omega assembly. Control Warrior already and still will lose against most other control decks due it’s lack of a good win condition and this card doesn’t help against aggro decks at all. Is this an insane card? Yes. but in Warrior when competing against all the other insane removals it isn’t insane, it’s just good.

        March 22, 2019 at 3:16 am

Control decks already play roughly half answer cards and half threats with maybe a couple draw effects. Plus, many good pieces of removal like Blood Razor and Reckless Flurry to name only two are also leaving Standard.

The average control deck doesn’t have a true win condition other than to outlast their opponent, and in an environment without infinite value, all the removal pieces that can double as threats like Crowd Roaster and this will be invaluable for the control mirror. Additionally, this can curve into Zilliax or Dyn-o-matic in match-ups where having a 4/5 on four is more important than the removal the card offers.

        • Smagel
          March 27, 2019 at 5:14 am

Control deck’s win condition to outlasting opponents only really applies to aggro matchups. Decks like control warlock had Rin, Mages had Janna etc to win control vs control matchups. Warrior was the only control decks without a win condition vs other control decks and so would just auto lose most of the time. dragons roar sort of fixed that but it relied on RNG in getting Emeriss since it was the only dragon that was impactful enough to win a control matchup alone. (maybe Temporus as well in some situations)

However now we have the bomb cards which gives control warrior a pretty decent looking win condition.

Reckless Flurry rotating out doesn’t really matter since it only really works in odd warrior and Baku is being HoFed. I guess Omega Devestator might replace blood razor though.

Overall i think control warrior will split into dragon warrior and mech bomb warrior and only the latter will run Omega Devestator as the dragon synergies give plenty of removal already.

I think it’s a pretty good card. It’s not necessarily a dead card until turn 10. It’s like a yeti so it will won’t be completely useless on board. Late game though, that will be nice just to nuke down a huge minion.

      March 21, 2019 at 5:58 pm

You are totally right in Arena. Dirty constructed is greedy enough that I don’t think you would ever play this before turn 10 except when absolutely necessary to survive.

So here’s where the origonal omega defender art went. This looks pretty good, and I think it will see play in control warrior(maybe other decks could use this) if control warrior exists after many cards rotate out.

i don’t thing this was the original omega defender’s art. Its more like that they goofed and they have the cards developed in advance.

Cool to see that they’re expanding on the Omega-type of cards. This card is super-good in Arena (where Yeti was already a great card, so anything with an upside is great), and I believe it can also find its way into midrange decks in Constructed. Nothing spectacular, but very solid. 3.5/5 stars from me.

I love the idea of taking early game cards and allowing them to expand in the late game. I think they’ve made omega cards entirely too binary to be looked at positively, though. Really hope they refine the idea in future generations.

I agree with your analysis, though. It will be very good, dare I say OP, in Arena, but merely playable in constructed.

Kicker cards in MtG are similar, and they’re just as binary and absolutely loved by that game’s community in general.
